STAR TREK: SECTION 31 (2025) dir. Olatunde Osunsanmi
Captain, you need at least another twenty four hours. Nonsense. STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION ⤷ Yesterday's Enterprise

The fact that we finally got a show about Captain Pike 50-odd years after the character was introduced gives me some hope that maybe someday we’ll finally get the Captain Rachel Garrett show we all deserve. I’m genuinely surprised that after all this time there hasn’t been any series set between TOS and TNG since it seems like fans have been clamoring for that kind of thing ever since TNG premiered.
This is Captain Garrett of the Starship Enterprise to any Federation ship.
Portrait of Rachel Garrett from Star Trek Section 31. Bad movie but I had a fun time.
I am not the only one in saying this, but yesterday's enterprise was easily the best episode this season so far. even though it was a little predictable to me, but probably again mostly bc this was the first time travel episode of this kind (in tos they had nothing like this if I remember correctly) and I have seen it all multiple times repeated in voyager, dsc and pic. I also enjoyed the question of why one timeline should be the "correct" one, even though they did not answer it.
but what I epecially liked about this episode is that they managed to explain/retcon things through it, like how peace with the klingons came about and pull things together, such as tasha getting a worthy sendoff. (even though her being on the ship would alter the timeline, but I let this one pass.) I think that's a very star trek thing to do, from tos onwards, to try to mend any plotholes and make it more logical. no wonder autistic people (like me) love this franchise lol
I also love it when prototypes of later plots or characters appear. like garrett was most likely the blueprint for janeway, down to the bouncy short hair (although she didn't have that until season 5, but - and this is big voyager nerd stuff - geneviève bujold did have similar haircut in the original pilot). and I wonder if ent archer was named that bc of archer IV? I could probably research that but I'm too lazy.
and I realized I actually love guinan's character. at first I thought she was a little too powerful to make sense, but somehow this zen version of omnipotent beings make just as much sense as the chaotic version, the q. it was a also really nice that the beginning of the episode mirrored the end, although I don't know why it was geordi who should tell her about tasha, data or worf again would've made way more sense. also, personally, I would've let worf appear as an officer on a klingon ship. I know it would've been complicated with his backstory and all, but this is an alternate universe and no one would've though about it too deeply anyway.
Some new images of Kacey Rohl as Rachel Garrett in the upcoming Section 31 movie.
