Instead of asking Alastor to be his partner Vox asks the opposite and asks Alastor to pretend to be his enemy. Why? Well radio vs TV just sounds like really good publicity.

And Alastor agrees. He thinks this is the funniest proposal he's ever gotten and honestly it just sounds like fun. He also has to admit that being enemies with Vox is better for his terrifying reputation than being friends is.

They keep this up for 70 years. They fight in public and make fun of each other on their shows but at the end of the day they meet up for drinks at one of their places and laugh about fooling all of hell while helping each other write insults for the other.

Vox still forms the vees and Valentino and Velvette learn about the whole scheme. They play along because it honestly does help with publicity and they do actually get along with Alastor when he shows up at the vee tower to hang out with them.
