Don’t be embarrassed to check!
I am sorry if anyone finds this post upsetting or I offend anyone.
Doctors always say when you find something cancerous on your body it’s the size of a grain of rice, but what they don’t tell you about is what to do when you suddenly discover a lump half the size of a ping pong ball.
That is what I have just gone through. Since February this year, I have had a lump the size of a ping pong ball in my right breast. I went to the local doctor and he said it was benign meaning it’s not cancerous. Still, he had me go to Radiology for an ultrasound and they suggested a biopsy.
The results came back and it was still benign but had signs of Malignancy (which means it could turn cancerous at any moment. So he referred me to a specialist who knows a lot about Breast Cancer Dr. Amelia Dauway and let me tell you she was amazing.
She checks it over and then told me to come back in six months time, but if anything changed e.g. size, shape, or it started hurting I was to return immediately. And that’s what happened in July. It had changed in shape and had also grown. So she had me go back to radiology for another scan, went back the following week and she immediately said that I have to go into surgery to remove the lump.
I had surgery two weeks ago on the 19th of August this year and then last week went back to find out the results. Turns out I had not one but two Phyllodes Tumours an aggressive Benign tumor that can turn cancerous. The biggest was 5cms by 7cm and weighed 14g and the second one was only 3cm X 4cm.
I had gone back for more surgery yesterday to remove the margins and any excess tissue from the area.
I have a 50/50% chance of still getting these tumors and not knowing the Families history with Breast Cancer is frustrating.
So if you find something that wasn’t on or in your body beforehand like a lump g to the doctors immediately and have it checked out. I was lucky that I found mine when I did because Dr. Duaway once told me she’s had patients come in with Phyllodes tumors that size of grapefruits.
Men can also get these as well but Benign Fibroednoma’s are more common in women and girls between the age of 13 to 25 years.
I am posting this to help raise awareness of Breast Cancer including with other types of cancer as I have lost an uncle to Lung Cancer and I have an aunt who also went through Breas Cancer.
I am a fighter. I am a survivor and this is my story.
