my fav letterboxd reviews for coolie so far:
Coolie Disco / Rajnikanth / Anirudh Ravichander / Tamil
I liked Vettaiyan. It felt refreshing to see a big Tamil star in a fully content-driven film. Even though it was largely focused on the content, there were still some classic Rajini moments. Fahadh Faasil's character brought some comic relief, and it's amazing how he manages to fit perfectly into any role. Like a missing piece that slots exactly into the puzzle.
There were a few moments that felt like they might slow down, but the movie maintained a steady pace throughout. Amitabh Bachchan's role was also well-suited. I enjoy seeing these kinds of roles done by a strong actor, similar to the character he played in Pink. It's the kind of role that commands respect and guides us in the right direction.
Manju Warrier was as expected; she didn't have a major role but did justice to what was given to her. In most star-led films, other characters tend to have limited importance. Overall, I enjoyed this movie.

When people were talking about Dall-E, Dall-E 2, Mid Journey and started to speculate if Graphic Designers/Artists as we know will become obsolete it got me thinking as well. Is my job in serious danger, will I be replaced by a bot. But when I tried the AI art creation bot MidJourney, I understood what it can and can’t do.Yes, the way it creates an image in seconds is awesome and it is quite scary how bizarre keywords can get such beautiful results. But it all depends finally on the human input. Yes, you may have the worlds best cooking range, but you still need the right ingredients and human intervention to cook a wonderful meal. The better the tools, the easier some tasks are but your knowledge and skill is what makes the dish awesome. Moms for generations have been proving just this point. So, I am not worried, but excited to see what I can pull off and what could be the practical application for it beyond a like-bait artworks on social or cool looking wallpapers. It is a great starting point for speculative or concept art. After doing a few random ones, I finally gave myself a brief and created a concept art for a Futuristic Tamil action movie with my favourite star but shot with a retro psychedelic aesthetic. And after a few tweaks, I landed with an interesting starting point. This is where I see artists begin their Journey, From the Middle, and perhaps that is why maybe the program is called Mid Journey. And where they eventually land is up to them. And like Rajnikanth, Artists are forever, technology will only aide them to reach new heights and you will still be the SOLO-BOSS.
