Good afternoon friends, I have a great message for you for today. You’re probably sick of hearing it by now but I’m going to address it anyway. Lately the GMM comment boards have been flooded with a lot of negativity and bullying towards one guest or another. That really sucks. I know these two work hard to entertain us and I’m sure it’s really disheartening for them to see stuff like that. I know it’s disheartenening for me at least. The whole point of of being a Mythical Beast is to promote positivity and kindness. I don’t understand why we have to flood their inboxes with mean, hurtful comments.
People act like these two internetainers haven’t been doing this since the year 2001. They’ve been around a while and by now we should be able to trust their decisions. We won’t always like it, but there’s always next time and another episode. Be constructive in your criticism instead of hateful and cruel. Give HELPFUL feedback. Not mean spirited snipes towards them and their business.
My next point, EVERYONE is problematic. Everyone has done something in their past that they might not be proud of today. Even Saint Rhett James McLaughlin talked about how he sang songs like “If The South Woulda Won” when he was younger. Divine Child Link was probably driving the truck and singing along too. I remember some of the humor from early episodes that was a little sexist. That doesn’t mean Rhett and Link are monsters or that they should be chased out by an angry social media mob. We are a product of our environment and we have to unlearn the bad behaviors and mindset that society has bred into us. We HAVE to make mistakes in order for us, and for others to learn from them. That doesn’t mean we should just cancel people out. STOP CANCELLING PEOPLE OUT! If someone makes a mistake and genuinely apologizes, why shouldn’t we just give them a break? We need to EDUCATE, instead of talking down to people and creating more frustration and anger. Don’t call people out publicly, if you have a problem send them a direct message instead. People feel the need to defend themselves when they feel humiliated in front of others so it just causes drama and stupid internet spats. (I have to learn this too haha yikes)
Unfortunately, it won’t always work.
Unfortunately, some people deserve to be called out.
Unfortunately, people can just be straight up garbage.
The bright side is, I’ve seen people that are absolutely self-aware and can call themselves out on their own behaviors. I’ve seen Beasts be supportive and caring of one another and I’ve seen them stand up for what’s right. We’re not a perfect fandom, but we have some incredible human beings that go above and beyond when it comes to being Mythical and kind. All that said, if you’ve been bullied once, twice, or relentlessly, I’m so sorry. I see you hurting and I know what that feeling is like. Please PLEASE reach out and talk with someone.
