Crochet Cobweb Cage Corner Net by Ohthemischief
We went on a beautiful 3.23 Mile walk again today.
I also cleaned the rat cages out really well and everyone is so happy and cozy in their clean cages.
I felt fairly productive today 💕🌟

Anyone with a pet rat, would you mind sharing your ideal cages? Or any personal ideas on space and size?? (Anything in general that you’d like to share?)
When I move, I’d like to adopt 2 rats. I’d like to make them a dream enclosure, so they do not want for anything!!! I’ve read and researched loads, I had a rat growing up. But, it’s been ages and I’d love to hear first hand from other animal lovers!!
They’ll have lots of out time as well, but I want them to have luxury, the works; space, toys, cozy places and safe materials.
What would you recommend??? Thank you for your time!!!!💜💜
Bin. Cages. Are. Perfectly. Acceptable.
They are an affordable and adequate means of housing rats. When constructed properly, they have adequate ventilation. Climbing space and platforms are not necessary for rats, floorspace is the most important factor, but they can easily be added. Plus, you can make deep bins that allow for tons of bedding to burrow in.
Hi, do you have any recommendations for a good rate cage for two rats? My roommate and I are looking into it now and we want to get a good one for our babies
Ooo~, the first cage that comes to mine that I’ve seen is the recommend Critter nation cages. I’m in Aus so I haven’t seen these other then online and I personally haven’t had one, but they come with their own shelves, cage liner and covers for said pieces too. A lot of rodent owners say good things about this so it would be worth having a look at - it’s just finding one that can be shipped to your area (I don’t know where you live) assuming you are not in the US like me.Having watched a few videos on rat cages myself, there’s been a few options on what is the minimum req for rat cages (I literally just googled ‘Rat Cage Review’ and some of these popped up from rat blogs I watch):
From the RatGuru:
2.5 cubic feet for two rats - they also cover some good rat cages in here if you want some more alternatives
From PeachyratParadise: 80x50x60cm/2 Square feet per rat. They also cover some good rat cages in the video
Having a look, this one is the double cage (36″Lx 25″W x 63″H) and the one below is the single (36″Lx 25″W x 39″H):
I personally use a bird cage because you get height for climbing and you can find some really nice ones for an affordable price. The one I got was on Ebay (the exact cage listing isn’t up anymore) for about 150 AUD and it looked similar to this:
The only thing you need to check for is the bar gap and the litter tray gap down the bottom since it’s build more for birds then rats. Any of the listed examples can fit two rats but I go for bigger just to be safe.Hope that helps :) And any other rat bloggers, let me know if I’ve linked everything alright and if anyone here has any suggestions for our friendo here!
so this is kind of a stupid question and i should probably know the answer, but i was wondering how many rats can fit comfortably in a critter nation single unit???
I’ve been interested in bringing home some little ratties to call my own, and i’ve been doing research on and off for about a year. I don’t know when i can get them - probably not before the new year at least - but i want to know everything i can before i try diving into this.
Ideally i’d like to have 3 or 4 living together, but right now i just don't have the room for a double unit, and i’ve heard anywhere from “you can only have 3, no more than that unless you get a double” and “you can have up to like 7 if you set it up right” (which sounds like bullshit but what do i know) so if anyone can help me out I’d appreciate it :)
