I don’t know if this super talked about in the fandom or not but; Sometimes I wonder what would happen if when light met Naomi (ray penbers wife) he didn’t have a death note paper on hand and ended up killing her with his own hands. Or even if she figured him out before he could get her real name.
What would happen to him as a person? How would he do it? And would he even rlly be capable of it or would he need a little help. Cuz even though light is a murderer, he’s not actually killing anyone—the book is. I think the fact that only kills people through the book speaks to the fact that he’s kinda cowardly. He can do all this murdering and talk all this shit cuz no one knows it’s him besides the Misa and the other guy.
On top of being anonymous he doesn’t get his hands dirty, which i think is a reason why he feels so superior to other murderers. It’s the only difference between him and them. Which makes me wonder what would happen if the story took that away from him by making him murder someone in cold blood.
What kind of reasoning would he use to justify himself? Without using the death note there isn’t anything divine or godly about what he’s doing. Sure he could cling to the “someone has to cleanse the world” idea, but as someone who’s killed tons of people with probably the same idea, how is he going to differentiate himself now?? Would killing someone m himself scare him or make him change his views?
Honestly, I think that he would enjoy it to some degree. And the reason I say this is because of what he did right before Naiomi died. Aka telling her that he was kira. He did that completely for his own ego, he WANTED to see the fear and dread in her eyes. He got a kick out of watching her realize that she’d just made the worst mistake of her life and there was nothing she could do about it. Because of that, I think that no matter what, even if he somehow changed his mind after, he’d still enjoy feeling her pulse fade under his fingers.
And then comes the way he’d kill her. He might push her into the street and make it look like she tripped, or he might stalk her and kill her in her own home (which I think he’d like tbh). Would he stab, strangle, or poison her? How would he hide the body? Where?? Or maybe he’d try to talk his way out of it, realize it’s not going to work, fall into a rage, and beat her to death. Then as he’s coming down from his anger and seeing all the blood and horror he’d realize the gravity of his situation. That, or he’d feel powerful and vindicated.
