How Tall I Think the VDLG Are Based on Facts and Knowledge
Arthur- 6'0" (183cm) my beautiful baseline king. Tbh this makes it easier to base everyone else's height offa Arthur since he's the main playable character n all.
John- 6'2" (188cm) to Arthur's despair and a point of pride for John. They both remember the growth spurt that did it.
Dutch- 5'11" (180cm) but if you ask him he says 6 foot. Wears lifts or tall boots to make himself taller >.>
Hosea- 5'9" (175cm) not too tall, not too short. A very unintimidating height. Makes it better (sexier) when he bosses folks around.
Grimshaw- 4'11" (150cm) big angy, tiny package
Tilly- 5'4" (162.5cm) average lady height idk
Uncle- 5'10" (178cm) if it weren't for his lumbago he'd be 6'3" and no thats not a lie at all
Abigail- 5'6" (167cm) she's gotta get on her tippy toes to hug/kiss John and John loves picking her up
Bill- 6'1" (185.5cm) something something I like tall husky men
Javier- 5'7" (170cm) short king represent! Also, the height difference with his ship pairings🤤
Sean- 5'9" (175cm) my baby just has the silliest height. And he swears its proportional👀
Lenny- 5'11" (180cm) he only found out while standing next to a barefoot Dutch at the percolator in the morning. Filed it away for a rainy day
Charles- 6'3" (190.5cm) the Lone Wolf. The American Bison. A big scary man with the softest heart😭💕
Karen- 5'10" (178cm) I love love love the idea of Karen being tall. Like, there's a reason she can handle the kickback on those rifles. Also...for my lesbian fantasies.
Mary-Beth- 5'5" (165cm) a perfectly dainty height. Uses that extra inch and her tip toes to give Tilly forehead kisses🥰
Molly- 5'3" (160cm) she loved literally getting swept off her feet by Dutch (past tense👀)
Pearson- 5'9" (175cm) idk man I literally dont think abt Pearson that much. He yells at me too much about the stringy meat I donate ( ̄- ̄)
Swanson- 6'0" (183cm) but you'd never know cuz man's is always on his ass
Kieran- 5'8" (173cm) he's a little shrimpy but also I think he'd be taller if he stood up straight
Sadie- 5'5" (165cm) she is tiny but mighty
Jack- uhhh how tall are children? 3 feet tall (100cm)
Trelawney- 6'1" (185.5cm) why is he so tall? Well, he's gotta put all that charisma somewhere (its the top hat really)
Micah- 1 in tall. Fuck you Micah. (My partner says Micah is 6'1" or 6'2" but just has terrible posture)
Trelawny and Kieran are like the prep school transfer no one gives a chance and the weird kid everyone bullies who hang out together even though they have nothing in common.
in shady belle, when they would be telling stories about each other, lenny would edge in closer and ask them to tell that one about sean. that one about sean in the saloon. where he fought off three drunks with just a beer bottle and then puked on bill on the way out.
lenny would always ask them to tell the ones about sean. please.
Arthur does the things that dads do when like eating candies or whatever. Just shake it in his hand and eat it afterwards. I still don't know why they do that but he does that too
The type to sip coffee while looking out at the window too
If he was in modern times, he'd be the type to text "ok" and thumbs up 😭
He always liked drawing, that, that's Canon. But I think he's lowkey embarrassed by it- if anyone caught him drawing, he'd sputter something about "analyzing his environment" or whatever
Like dude you like drawing, it's okay man, no one is going to be mad
Teased SO MUCH john when they were little, ruffling his hair, doing pranks (rodrick heffley core)
I mean he still lowkey does that, just less intense ig
Draw his significant other a lot. Like, a lot. Once he's in love he's in deep
I mean we all saw how the cowboy wrote about Mary in his journal. Well, he'd write about his significant other like that too
Doesn't talk a lot about Isaac and meliza, unless when he's drunk or with strangers. He's just scared if he talks to the gang they'd look at him differently. He doesn't want them to look at him like he's weak
He doesn't like hunting much, but fishing though? Now we're talking
You see how the guy talks to himself when he's fishing? Yeah, the guy clearly likes it
Again if he was in modern times with a kid, he'd buy them remote-controlled electronics, example a controllable car with a console that he secretly lowkey bought for himself but covered it up by saying it's for his kid so he can play with it all he wants
Silly man
Would let his kid do hairstyles to him, as well as like drawing on his hand or something
John marston
I didn't find gifs for him so
Okay we know he's an idiot sometimes. A lot. But sometimes he says like lowkey philosophical stuff without realizing
Yet then he gets stupid drunk and try to domesticate a duck into stealing moonshine for him
Does the dad wave when recognizing someone in public
Would cheat at poker and then lie about not doing it terribly. Like you can see all over his face how obvious it is
On the contrary if someone wins he accuses them of cheating
Stupidly observant on portions. He's been a younger sibling, and siblings get VERY serious about ts
Example with a bar of chocolate cut in two- bro I wouldn't be surprised if he brought a ruler just to check it's cut perfectly in half
He'd whine about one millimeter difference too
That man is dirty. You have to force him to take a bath- and even then, he's deeply scared of water
Talking about some he ain't dirty and that he smells just fine. He doesn't
He's not really skilled with words, unlike dutch. He prefers to show his affection and reconnaissance with actions (example acts of service)
He's slowly forgetting everyone's faces, especially in rdr1. I think the wolf attack touched his brain in some way and affected him, like that he's forgetting things, and people
Because of this too, he might seem slow when responding tbh
He eats straight up bs, like really anything lowkey edible is consumed if he's feeling hungry. Somehow is strangely picky with Pearson but that's because the man LOVES to complain
It gives him a conversation starter ig
Has lowkey a bad vision but never got to wear glasses because he didn't have money to get his eyesight checked or the glasses
can I please have some Arthur Morgan headcanons? here’s some ideas for it
His experience at a target
getting a little treat after a hard day of work
being a passenger princess
basically following his new “caretaker” around while he figures out the modern world.
1890s!Arthur being thrown into the modern world HC
A/N: I'm gonna go with the last two bc I find it so funny. ALSO: I should clarify, that this isn't a relationship hc. The reader (You/yours pronouns) is g/n, and Arthur becomes their roommate
(And they were roommates...)
Arthur Morgan was in the blast zone of Francis Sinclair's time machine and accidentally hitched a ride to the year 2023.
- Gets hit by (your) a car when he wandered into the street
- It took him quite a bit to come to terms that this place was not the one he once knew
- Wants to get home so badly, but it seems he's stuck. He can't find Vincent Sinclair anywhere.
- He seeks out your help and at first, when he explains his predicament, you think he's a crazy homeless guy
- He tries to go off on his own to figure things out but comes back immediately because things have changed so much from the place he once knew.
- He also almost got hit by another car
- You decide you want to show Arthur the finer things in life, first starting with getting vaccinated... God knows how many diseases Arthur would be exposed to, let alone the ones he already has.
- Also a toothbrush because his breath is probably rancid
- He sleeps on your couch for a while
- eventually moves into your spare bedroom and starts having to pay some of the rent
- He'd have to work under the table because his birth certificate says he was born in 1864...
- Probably gets a job with Construction or Bartending
- Also, clean slate? No Bounty! Hell yeah!
- tends to follow you everywhere because he likes how you explain modern life to him
- You got him a cell phone.
- He's never trying to be funny when he asks questions
- "What the hell is a "tik-tok"?"
- "Blue-tooth? Never heard of that, only gold ones... I used to sell em'."
- "And you can just.. talk to this? And it'll bring ya food?? Whenever ya want???"
- holds the phone pinched between two fingers on either side like he's holding a pair of dirty underwear and starts to yell at it that he wants some steak
- Absolutely blown away by pizza
- Astonished when he sees no horses, just giant metal boxes with wheels that seem to move on their own.
- When you explain how it worked and what it was, he called it a "magic stagecoach" for a while
- Passenger princess
- fascinated by modern music. It just comes out of your magic stagecoach with the press of a button?
- Huge Bon Jovi fan. his favorite song is "Wanted Dead or Alive".
- asks "What does this button do?" seconds before he presses it
- holds the "oh shit" handle in your car at all times.
-The first time he was in your car he probably actually screamed
- you got him an electric beard trimmer for Christmas and he acted like you handed him a gold ingot
- quite honestly starts to warm up to the domestic life. having to rob and steal to keep himself alive weighed on him way more than he liked to admit.
- adores movie nights. Movies in the 1900s-2023 are incredibly different than the motion pictures he was used to.
- after he gets used to this new world, he WANTS A MOTORCYCLE SO BAD but opts for a pickup truck instead because it's more convenient
- Insists on cooking dinner on the weekends
- didn't understand your gas stove the first time and he almost blew up your apartment
~ early teen years + how he grew up kinda + general hcs + pictures + very long + angst ~
┄❥┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄❥┄
So after Charles left his father when he was 13, the first time he tries to go into a town he qucikly realized just how unwelcome he was in this world when two grown men attack him based on his skin and race. Grown men attacking a child.
After this realization I think this is when he starts to develop more of survivalist skills, finding nature and the wilderness to be a more kind and fair opponent somehow. The animals that attacked him out here were looking for food to feed their bellies, not feed their hate.
However the world is oh so cruel.
(Now for context I kinda took this based on Noshir Dalal’s opinions. His whole post is a very interesting insight into Charles i recommend reading. I looked up if Charles could read and found it as a response on a reddit post if ur looking.)
One day he got captured no older than 15. Taken to a camp with soldiers and other native children like him. He was forced into clothing he didn’t know, didn’t like. He was talked to like he was lesser than, forced to sleep outside with other people he didn’t know. White soldiers watching over him.
We can see an old run down fort where I believe this happened given that Charles met the gang out in the Grizzlies area which is not terribly far from West Elizabeth. The fort was also clearly at least akin to one of the situations Noshir was talking about.
Despite the horrible situation he was in he’d often find himself in little hidden conversations amongst his fellow prisoners around him who had learned the ways of their people, feeling some connection to his mother again, the roots he missed and were actively trying to be ripped away from them all.
He already knew how to bead but had always struggled a little, his mother would always tell him he’d get better with practice and dedication. A kind young woman, closer to 18-20 had kindly offered Charles some tips that helped her when she first started that greatly helped Charles once he was out and free.
They developed a bond, her offering small teachings and lessons of her own tribe to him in moments where there weren't soldiers watching right over them. She had become like a big sister to him, someone who he could confide in and one of the only people he felt comfortable with in a long long time
His eventual freedom came at a cost. One night he had been eating the same old measly rations they were given every other night when all of a sudden he heard a commotion, another young man not much older than Charles but with a fiercer temper (who could blame him?) lashed out at one of the soldiers and soon everyone was fighting each other. After all this time being mistreated many had rage that just now was being released in a chaotic swarm of yelling, clattering, and bullets.
It's a all a blur, even in Charles memory. Within a moment he's been tackled and his fight or flight is kicking in. He's fighting back and struggling as much as he can but he's still just a boy, not having the strength or skill set he'd make sure to have later in life. And that cold cold blade was getting closer and closer to his throat.
He doesn't even realize he's gotten the knife from the man above him until he feels the body weight crush him and warm blood pooling on him from the soldiers neck. Then he’s quickly scrambling back.
His feet hit the ground and he's running as fast as he can, making it past those wooden walls for the first time in months. Though he can't appreciate it like he imagined, the dark makes it hard to see and the scenery whipping by in a blur.
Then he hears the screams and calls for help from his friend and his body is moving that direction without any thought. Apparently she had run and made it not too far from the fort before one of those uniformed men had chased after her and caught up.
Just as Charles stumbles upon the scene he hear's the gunshot go off and his body feels cold and hot at the same time. Like when you’re so cold it starts to burn your skin. He doesn't really come too again until the soldier's face is unrecognizable under his fist from all the blood. He releases a shaky breath, bloodied fist still raised at the man who was long gone. The man who had just ripped yet another person from his life.
He stands and stumbles back, turning to her body lay still and already getting cold. He quickly scoops up her body and tears fall down his cheeks he carries her away. He didn't really know why but he knew he couldn't leave her to lay there, even in his shaken brain.
He keeps walking for awhile until he collapses against a tree from exhaustion, still holding her close. He didn't wanna be alone right now and she was all he has had in a long time, even now lifeless he couldn't bear to let go, arms stuck like rusty metal that didn't want to move. Arms wrapping around her as he curls in on her, whispering shaky apologies and curses till the words don’t sound real anymore.
The massacre at Fort Riggs ended as soon as it began. The remaining soldiers were already burying bodies with the added insult of marking their graves only by the symbol of a god that was never theirs to begin with. So many innocents disrespected, abused, and slaughtered without so much as their name left behind.
Charles refused to let the same fate fall his dear friend. They all deserved proper burials but Charles focused what he could do. He found a spot overlooking the river. The same river he remembers her listening too in the late moments of the night.
He remembers her showing him a spot by the wall of the fort, were you could hear the water tumbling in the not so far distance if you were quiet enough. She had shown him in a moment of weakness, he had been up that night, crying silently with anxieties and troubles swarming his gut. She never asked anything of him, just sat and breathed with him, and offered silent comfort.
Here, over the river, he buries a proper grave, setting her carefully in there, with the gentleness of someone who cares. The sight of dirt covering her already paling skin causes tears to prick his eyes, this never should have happened. None of this should have ever happened. He learned that a long time ago, when he was a young boy and his kind, loving mother got taken for no reason other than her skin and beliefs/traditions/culture. He hopes his mother got a proper burial, whatever happened to her... He's smart enough to know her being alive anymore is unlikely.
He takes his time after burying this young woman, wanting to make her grave right in the way he knew how. Harvesting the skull of the man who had killed her, letting it dry out while he found the horns, wings, and took the time it took to make it all together. He wanted to send her off the right way, as best he could. As best as he could remember how to, from what she had told him and what his mother had told him.
It took a while after completing her gravesite but he eventually started moving out and moving onwards, towards the north, towards Grizzlies. Somehow he made it out alive, by all logic he shouldn't have. Sometimes he still thinks about it, the people he left behind, the people still being hurt right now and kills him just how little he can do.
(I know there are a lot of theories around Fort Riggs but this was what popped in my head when I was playing again recently and exploring around Fort Riggs. TBH i may come back and edit so If u have any tips/info/opinions that u think would help then lmk, this is my first time writing in a while and obviously I don't have the perspective someone who is actually native american/indignous so id love any feedback for accuracy. thank you for reading!)
I like to think that the bandana/handkerchief (?) Arthur uses in his clothes is just the one he used to use on Copper. He uses it to keep his best buddy close to his heart. (I want to kms.)
Do I have any proof of this whatsoever? No. Not at all but let me have this bro.
hello meet Valentine Horony yes this kind of is a self insert oc no I don’t really care I’m doing this to feel better bc I’ve been feeling incredibly sad also I’m not very good at digital art…………PLUS drawing is inspired by a @drizzledrawings one (love ya) AND that’s it ok bye!
