One of these characters is the single most cishet character in the entire cast of Re:Zero, with his main internal conflict centering around his dearest wish being to fill the role of a very traditionally hypermasculine male while fully believing that he is unable to achieve this dream due to circumstances outside of his control; a situation that has been referred to and treated as his own personal hell.
The other is almost certainly transfeminine (whether they’re a trans woman or some flavor of non-binary), has hinted on multiple occasions that they would unironically be happier with a female body and identity, went to school for the first three days of high school dressed as a woman with the experience of being clocked for their voice being explicitly referred to as traumatizing (and also is hinted at that incident being the reason they dropped out in the first place), explicitly refers to a crossdressing persona as their “ideal self,” constantly fills the feminine role outlined in the subtext of the story, and has been unironically referred to as the heroine of the story by the author in at least one QnA.
You will never guess which is which.
