osamu once told atsumu that girls liked it when guys used their name in a sentence a lot. unfortunately for atsumu, he just sounds stupid.
"heyyyy, y/n. how ya doin, y/n?"
"hi, atsumu! m'fine. you?"
you ask as you see the blonde haired twin slide into the seat beside you.
"yeah. y/n, i'm fine too. i'm glad you asked y/n. what'cha doing, y/n?"
two seats behind you, you hear sunas voice with a lazy laugh, "why's he talking like that? he sounds dumb as fuck-." only to be interrupted with osamu's elbow making contact with his ribs. "shut up for once, rin."
"just homework, forgot to do it last night."
"hahha yeah, y/n." you didn't make a joke?
suna was right, he was talking weird. you've noticed the overusage of your name as soon as he started talking. you knew osamu's dumbass probably told him that girls probably fawn over stuff like that. you've seen the tiktoks.
but coming out of atsumu's mouth, it sounded cute. so you didn't stop him, you did however, tried to stop giggles coming out of your mouth at his poor attempt.
"sooo y/n. i was wondering.. if you're, y'know. potentially.. free this saturday. how does that sound y/n?"
"no way this dumbass just-" "shut up, rin! it's working. see, i'm always right." "it's not working you fatass."
"atsumu."
"yes, y/n?"
"please never listen to osamu ever again."
to that, you hear the gray haired twin gasp in shock and suna's laugh as he takes a picture of osamu's face as proof of his failure.
"i'll go on a date with you, but drop the name stuff. you sound stupid. cute, but stupid."
years after high school the team would still get together every other Friday for movies, candy, snuggles, and a good time. it’s been years, and yet here you are, the team still coming together like nothing ever changed, a moment where you can step back in time. something simpler. something more like home. until they try to figure out who on the team you had a crush on.
this is a little self indulgent piece, because I love Nekoma.
I’ll see about turning this into a second part, maybe a third if anyone is interested. please leave a comment or reblog with the tags who you think it is or who you want it to be.

If there was one thing that never changed, it was your payday sleepovers. Not everyone would always be able to show up, but your door was always open into college and adulthood for these nights. Every payday Friday you and your old team would get together in your living room, with futons and pillows and blankets galore.
“Hey yn. I got the drinks you asked for and some ice.” Kuroo smiled, grabbing the plastic bags at his feet and stepping inside your apartment to set them on the counter. Kenma was already there, laying out the futons and fluffy blankets. You stood in the kitchen, grabbing a small bowl for the ice before putting the rest of the bag in the freezer. “Who all was coming tonight?”
“Yamamoto is gonna make it, and Inuoka. Yaku’s flight just landed an hour ago so he will be here soon. Lev was picking him up from the airport.” You smiled, tossing a wrapped pastry to Kenma on the couch.
This was a tradition dating back to high school. The 2012-2013 volleyball team would get together every other Friday to your parents house for a movie marathon. Eventually they turned into sleepovers and when you became adults it settled into your apartment. You didn’t mind though, it was a great way to keep the team together, they were all very respectful and helpful in your space after all.
“What’s this..?” Kuroo asked, looking at a box on the table. He had opened the lid to see a bunch of letters.
“Oh, those are all some old letters.” You spoke, biting off the end of Kenma’s pocky stick before standing again. “Back in school I would write out letters to myself and some to you guys for some therapy practice.”
Kuroo shuffled through the envelopes, “Ohh, this one was the one to Akaashi? You never did tell him about that crush on him did you..”
“Shut up. I told you it wasn’t Akaashi I had a crush on.” You took the envelope out of his hand and put it back in the box. “If you’re just looking for drama then you can leave the box alone.” Your ears perked at the knock on the door, opening it with excitement. Inuoka and Yamamoto had carpooled together, and you welcomed them in with big hugs.
“Yn!” Inuoka lifted you in his arms having wrapped his around your waist. Yamamoto made a face when you wrapped your legs around So’s waist as to not have them dangling and dragging. It was a habit from high school, whenever you were sad and he gave you a hug he would lift you up, eventually you started wrapping your legs around him and holding onto him tightly when the hugs no longer were sad hugs, but hugs of affection and endearment. Setting you down, you turned to Yamamoto, giving him a hug and a peck on his cheek.
“Hey now, where’s my kiss?” You let go of Yamamoto to see Yaku standing there with Lev in the doorway. Yaku was always confident, and always a good friend to you. You laughed, walking over to toss his arms around him in a hug as well before sharing a glance at the rest of the boys, before turning back to Yaku and giving him a little peck on his lips too. Pink dusted his cheekbones, while you chuckled at everyone's reaction.
“No fair! That’s favoritism!” Lev complained, leaning down and putting his head on top of yours. You chuckled, and patted his cheek.
“What makes him so special..” Yamamoto pouted, grabbing a bag of chips off the counter.
“It’s not like she won’t give you one if you ask.” Kenma chimed in, hearing Kuroo in agreement. Affection was how you showed your boys you loved them, it was your language of love.
“Well Yaku is special because he came to visit us all the way from Russia.” You pipped in, grabbing his suitcase and closing the door behind them. He took it back from you with a smile.
“I know where to go.” He walked off towards your bedroom, grabbing his other bag from the hallway. Lev took a drink off the counter and sat down on the fluffy floor with Inuoka and Yamamoto.
“He makes all that money but he still stays with you instead of getting a hotel?” Kuroo chimed in, sending you wiggling eyebrows as you rolled your eyes.
“It’s just for tonight. He couldn’t get in until the last minute so we just decided he would stay here for the sleepover, like all the rest of you. Don’t turn it into something its not.” You through his arm off of you, before stepping into your bedroom, after a moment walking back out with some more blankets and pillows from right off your bed. “He’s gonna take a quick shower then come join us. I’ll get dinner order-”
“Oh don’t worry about it!” Lev chimed in, “Yaku already ordered from our favorite restaurant back in school, should be here soon.”
“Wait what-?” You looked off confused, throwing the mass of fluff at your former captain and sending him into Yamamoto on the floor. “I’m the hostess, I’m supposed to get the big stuff here.”
“You made me get drinks.”
“I literally sent you the money via Venmo you geek.”
“You should let us spoil you once and a while too.” Lev spoke, standing in front of you.
“Honestly, yeah. You have like five friends who make bank compared to you.” Kuroo spoke in again, earning a smack from Kenma behind him on the sofa. It took Kuroo a moment to realize what he said, before looking back at you. “I’m sorry, that’s not what I-”
“No.. no it’s fine. I know what you meant. It’s okay.” Your independence was something important to you, you wanted to be able to do what you do yourself. You didn’t like asking for help anymore, and you felt like you had no choice. The boys know of your ex, and how he broke you down into being nothing more than a clingy, broke, not the girl I fell in love with, partner. It was toxic, it was borderline abusive, and you still had to heal from that.
“so anyone, did anyone else know that yn has these love letters written to all of us from high school?” Kuroo changed the topic, he did know you well, he knew that this was a fun alternative and you didn’t take anything teasing from the boys to heart, you knew that better.
“oh my god, there not love letters!”
“Mine was.” Yaku teased from the doorway of the bathroom, towel around his head and completely dressed in an old t-shirt and a pair of basketball shorts. You rolled your eyes and sat on the couch, patting between your legs. Just like in high school he sat on the floor in front of you while you ran the towel through his hair. You did this for all of them, taking turns when they would shower off or just soak there head in the fountain.
“You got a love letter from her Yaku!?” Lev leaped, leaning on his knees. “I thought yn had a thing for Akaashi?” you dropped your hands.
“I did not have a thing for Akaashi!” Yaku reached behind him, grabbing your hands and putting them back on his head.
“You did say you liked a volleyball player back then, you were always so vague.” Inuoka smiled, handing you and Yaku both a drink from the counter. “Can I be next?”
“Sure.” you giggled, opening the can and taking a drink. “I remember what I said, and I never gave anymore hints. Why do you all think it was always Akaashi?”
“You were always smiling around him, and laughing and talking and always seemed like a good time. He’s tall and handsome and we thought you were into that.”
“Hold up.” You paused. “You noticed that with Akaashi, but not with someone ELSE on the team?”
“What do you mean?” Kenma turned, putting his phone down and looking at you skeptically with the rest of the team. “Yn, was your crush on someone on Nekoma?”
You smiled, and stood, and walked away. “If you can figure it out, then I’ll let you all read your letters.”

READ DRABBLE #2: IWAIZUMI
Kenma was no more willing to be shoved into the closet than you were. You knew Kenma as well as Kuroo did; you knew that being pushed into an uncomfortable game of Seven Minutes in Heaven wasn’t going to be an enjoyable experience for him. Which meant it was probably going to be pretty uncomfortable for you. You didn’t know what Kuroo was thinking — he had teased Kenma a few times about not getting a girlfriend but you never thought he’d interfere like this. You had also been sure he wouldn’t use your crush on him against you, but here you were.
As soon as the door closed on the two of you, the darkness was instantly illuminated in a glow from Kenma. He was sitting on the floor against the wall and had taken his Switch in with him — that made things easier. At least one of you wasn’t bored out of their skull.
“How long has it been?” he asked you almost immediately. You could see only the faint curve of his face.
You took out your phone, trying to process the time on your phone. 20:32. What did that mean again? Ah — why did you have to get locked in a room with Kenma Kozume?
“It’s been, like, a minute,” you said, “so six more minutes. It’ll go pretty fast.”
He hummed in acknowledgement, his attention directed to his game. You heard the flicks of buttons for a few minutes — you pulled out your phone again. 20:35.
His fingers stopped, but he didn’t look up. “Sorry you got stuck with me, Y/N.”
“It’s fine. Anyone else would have been way more uncomfortable.”
You could see him almost smile. He raised his switch and shuffled slightly into the corner to make room beside him. “You want to watch me play?”
You nodded, sitting. You fit right next to him. He didn’t recoil when your legs touched. He didn’t seem to care. Of course, this wasn’t your first time hanging out with Kenma while he was gaming, or even while gaming with him, but something was very different about being in a small closet in the almost-dark — though you could see cracks of light under the door.
A vivid image crossed your mind, one that you had seen before you hated yourself for having.
Your lips against his, his hand in your hair, your heart speeding.
But you knew it would never happen, and you also knew how strange it was to keep picturing it. You pushed it out with a deep breath. Instead, you focused on the character on Kenma’s screen.
Or, you tried to. Your eyes wandered to his hands. Long, slender fingers. Meticulously trimmed nails. Smooth knuckles. The way they tensed as he pushed up on the stick.
“This is such a stupid game,” Kenma observed quietly. “Seven Minutes in Heaven, I mean.”
“Yeah, I think so too,” you sighed. “I don’t see the point. What are they expecting us to do? And what do they get out of it?”
“I feel like Kuroo’s taking his teasing a little too far.”
Oh. Did he know that Kuroo had done this on purpose?
“He is. But, I mean, at least I’m not stuck with a stranger who I’m supposed to make out with.”
“Is making out, like, in the rules?”
You bit your lip, thinking. “I don’t think so.”
“Good. This is enough for me.”
You nodded. It was nice. It was probably nicer than trying to do something with him that he, as far as you knew, had no interest in.
You glanced at the time. 20:40. “It’s been more than seven minutes,” you noted. “Are you okay with them seeing us like this?”
He chuckled. “Yeah. Compared to what they’re probably hoping for, this is nothing.”
Compared to what you were hoping for. Or what you had been.
However, ten minutes later, no one had opened the door.
“You think they forgot?”
“Maybe.”
A half hour passed.
“Okay. They forgot.”
A pause. “Mhm.”
By now, you had found his shoulder was a nice place to lean your head, and he didn’t seem to mind. His taps and flicks on his Switch were making your eyelids droop. He smelled really nice. You wanted to be near him like this for as long as possible, so you weren’t even slightly upset that you hadn’t been interrupted.
-✧-
With a pang, Kenma realized you were asleep.
He tried not to move the shoulder you were slumped against as he turned his head to look at you. You looked very peaceful, although he hoped that your neck wasn’t going to hurt from your position. Your breathing was the only thing he could hear other than his own heartbeat — which he desperately hoped you couldn’t sense.
Kenma set his game down, the light from the monitor shining faintly on the ceiling. He could barely see you now; only the outline of your arms and head and some light reflecting off of your hair. Your hand was resting palm-up on his knee.
You were asleep. So maybe — maybe you wouldn’t remember this.
He lifted his hand and, after staring for a second, traced the inside of your forearm down towards your wrist. Your skin was soft and smooth. When he gently pushed his fingers between yours, you seemed to instinctually curl your fingers around his. But thankfully, you didn’t wake up, although you did sigh out of your nose and move ever-so-slightly closer to him.
Kenma didn’t know how long he had. Any second, Kuroo or Yaku might push open the door. But he’d savour this moment with you, your head on his shoulder and your fingers intertwined. And maybe his desire to be with you didn’t have to take him out of his comfort zone. Maybe you’d be okay with what he was.
He couldn’t see your thoughts and he didn’t want to ask. He was okay with this, right now.
Maybe this extended game of Seven Minutes of Heaven wasn’t so bad.
“Kenma…” you groaned, pulling at your boyfriends arm. He shook on the bed slightly, his character shaking a bit.
“Just a few more minutes, Puddin’. Just a few more.” He said. You lifted yourself to lean onto his side. He leaned his head back on yours.
“No… you always say a few more.” You said, again. You tossed your arm around him.
“What do you mean?”
“It’s always a few more, then ten, then twenty, then an hour, and next thing ya know it’s the next day.” You groaned, nuzzling into his shoulder.
“Hm…” He sighed, and started to mess with his controller. “That’s true. I’ll go ahead and sleep now, but don’t expect this to happen to much.” He chuckled.

“life is the flower for which love is the honey.”-victor hugo
-
the wind gently picked up the hems of your blouse, playfully twirling it around its fingers with every breath it took. calm, blue skies hushed away the restlessness of your hearts, setting them free, like the birds playfully chirping in the sky. the monotonous tapping of the console buzzed in your ears, then came the gentle lullaby of the wind caressing the greenery.
“do you have any regrets?”
his eyes still fixated on the screen, he let out a smile. a smile so rare yet so natural, so delicate yet so real.
“why would i have any, when all i need is you?”
the wildflowers bent in agreement, dancing in the unchained rhythm the breeze set for them. between the two of you was comfortable silence, but this time it was busy nestling itself in every place it could find. uprooting the wildflowers, you intertwined the fragile stems, braiding out a flower crown. no exchange of words were needed; you could feel him peeking at you from the corner of his eyes.
hearing the shuffle of your footsteps, he curiously gazed up, his eyes trailing your face. running your fingers through his hair, the smooth; golden locks of his grazed your skin lightly. upon placing the crown in his hair, it puffed down slightly, flattening his hair out.
“for my prince.”
the bees buzzed around playfully, awakening the flower buds from their deep slumber. his lips melted into a soft smile; a smile that conveyed everything.
his smile wasn’t one that could be put into words; a smile that never failed to stir your heart- it was a smile that has seen your highs and your lows; a smile that has always been with you through thick and thin.
but most importantly, it was a smile you didn’t want to lose sight of.
those smiles were rare coming from him, but it doesn’t make any less sweeter. that’s because he knew.
“life is the flower, for which love is the honey.”
you felt his smile merging with yours, and in that moment, you swore that you could hold up the universe and all of its sorrows to feel this full bloom once more.

This can’t be right.
You could only stare at the mess in front of you.
Is this even… A pie?
You were beyond frustrated. Covering your face in your hands, a loud groan of annoyance and frustration made its way out.
It was hopeless. Who knew a simple pie could be this difficult?
It was your first anniversary. And despite your boyfriend, Kozume Kenma’s insistence on it being a day of relaxation, you wanted to do at least something for him. What you hadn’t anticipated, however, was the level of difficulty that came with making a simple apple pie.
"What happened?“
You jumped at the voice you knew all too well.
"Kenma!” Trying to seem casual, you let out a laugh, although it came out more like a nervous chuckle. “You’re not supposed to be here this early!” another nervous chuckle.
The boy only titled his head to the side in confusion and repeated his question.
You sighed. It was no use.
"I tried to make an apple pie for you but it didn’t work out.“ was all you were able to say to him. Another sigh leaving your lips. “I’m sorry.”
Kenma looked at you with a confused look. Why were you sorry? He wanted to ask but now didn’t seem like the best time. So instead, he made do with an ’it’s okay’ as he enveloped you in his arms.
Kenma was never one to initiate skinship or any type of physical contact for that matter, but he figured if you were making such an effort after one year, perhaps he should as well.
Guiding you towards your shared bedroom, he gently laid you down. And not long after, made himself comfortable beside you.
You were now both underneath the covers, his head on top of yours as he caressed the back of your head softly. He wasn’t sure how cuddling worked exactly, but this felt good, and he hoped that you felt good too.
"I just wanted to make it special.“ he suddenly heard you say, and with a rare smile, he answered.
"I know.“
Your boyfriend Kenma didn’t know much about comfort. He had always found it quite difficult and was never quite sure about the proper way to comfort someone. He was always lost when it came to these things. But at that moment, with you snoring softly in his arms, he had a feeling, that he was doing something right.
And not long after, you were both fast asleep in each other’s arms. The apple pie long forgotten on the kitchen counter.
many asked, and you shall receive. here is part two, it just goes into a little more detail of the flashbacks and the conversation. part three will be one part for each character, the reveal and then a timeskip.

“I have no idea who it could be.” Kuroo leaned back, starting to forget that you were there and present when he dived into his thoughts.
“Didn’t you just say he got a love letter from her, Yaku.” Lev asked, kicking his feet out from under himself to get comfortable for the seemingly long thought process.
“I was messing with you, dumbass. She never gave any of us one of her letters. They were therapeutic, not romantic.” he gave a softer kick than he had in the past to Lev’s thigh. “If I had to take a guess, I’d say Inuoka.”
“Why me, Yakkun?” So looked confused, taking a bite of a pastry. “I’d say you over all of us.”
“It’s the way you always knew she was down, and when she needed a hug vs when she needed her space. You were like a little emotional support puppy, and I know she liked kind guys like that. Especially the way she holds onto you.” Yaku took a drink of his can, “Why me?”
“You were the first to get her kisses.” Inuoka answered. “You were, well are, always confident and logical. Until you got that first kiss anyway.”
“Oh yeah, I remember.” He smirked.
“You’re fucking face that day was golden, dude.” Kuroo started laughing hard at the memory, soon the rest of the boys did as well.
“It was that game against Nohebi for the represented spot.” Yaku looked out the window into the night sky fondly. “After I got hurt, and after we won. The excitement, the adrenaline, I can still remember that first kiss. It was so soft.”
“You think about it a lot?” You asked from the kitchen table, he turned to you with a smile, and a simple nod.
“So then it’s Yaku?” Lev turned to you with a curious gaze, pouting when you raised your eyebrow at took a drink.
“Nah, even if I was the first to get her kisses, I wasn’t the only one. Kenma was after me.” Yaku turned to his former setter.
“Don’t drag me into this.”
“You just asked her for confirmation that it was one of us!” Kuroo teased.
“It could be you, you know.”
“What do you mean?”
“You’re always the first person she calls when she needs something, any time or day and you’re always there within minutes to her rescue.” Kenma picked up his game, “after Yaku left for Russia anyway.”
“I agree that it could be you though Kenma,” Kuroo started, looking at his friend for a reaction. “You were the first person to start staying over when she got her apartment, and the first person to get to sleepover after a chat stream with her.”
“Does anyone think it could be Lev? or Yamamoto?” You chimed in, looking to get there gears running.
“Oh.. you two did have that dance in the rain. That was kind of romantic.” Inuoka turned to Lev.
“I forgot about that, in our third year.”
“How do you forget something like that you damn idiot.” Yaku spat, kicking Lev, “I’d kill for a memory like that.”
“It was super dorky and awkward, no you don’t.” Inuoka started, “she was in the area after visiting her parents and it started pouring, Lev held the umbrella but it broke and started panicking. He fell over onto her in a puddle!” He was cackling. Yaku ready to kill Lev for his stupidity. “He stood up, apologizing profusely when she just took his hand and tossed him into the puddle too. When they stood they started laughing, and she just grabbed his hands and started swinging in circles.”
Yamamoto started cackling, he had never heard this story before.
“If I’m being honest, I don’t think it’s Yamamoto.” Kuroo turned, “Sorry to say, but you did treat her differently than anyone else.”
“That’s exactly why it could be him.” Kenma pointed out, “He didn’t freak out with her all the time the way he did with Karasuno’s managers. He was a little more respectful, even if he was still a handful.”
“Of course I was. She was our manager and I didn’t want to make her uncomfortable.” he took a second to think, “I remember how sad she was when I asked her why she seemed so upset one time, after I did freak out a little over how attractive Karasuno was. That was when I learned about her insecurities and tried to be better.”
“That’s... very mature and didn’t think of it that way.” Kuroo smiled, “Touché.”
“There are more memories, but these seem to be our core memories hmm? What leaves us to think she fell in love with each other?” Inuoka looked at his feet in the distance. “I really have no idea. All of us have some good memories together, and alone.”
“That may have been her point.” Kenma looked over at you, “You didn’t want to seem like you were playing favorites did you?” You shook your head, agreeing with his statement.
“I’m glad you came to this outcome yourselves.” You smiled, grabbing a handful of letters from the box after digging through them. Slowly you walked over to each boy and handed them the little folded piece of paper. They read through there letters pretty quickly, and once they were done, you sat down in front of the group of boys.
“So.... who is it?” ah, the present tense. All five boys looked at each other their letters in there hands, whoever it was. It is still is.
these are a little shorter because I wanted to leave the ‘ending’ open for your interpretations.

Three Months Later:
Kodzuken hadn’t been online for a few weeks and the moment he posted he was going live everyone piled in. The twitter post hit a 100k likes in the matter of four hours, and it was estimated to have many others logging on.
“You look nervous.” You sat down next to Kenma, tucking your dress under your thighs as you took a seat at the computer next to him. He turned in the chair and leaned back, giving you a soft smile. The same one you’ve seen for years, and the one you’ve been strictly on the receiving end for three months now.
Kenma had been hinting at the change in his relationship status, being vague and having fun with it but he didn’t like to play games like this for long. It was usually pretty taxing and never ended up well. “Just a little. You look really nice.”
“I wanted to make a good first impression.” You teased, reaching over and tucking a piece of hair behind his ears. “Don’t worry, I promise it’ll be okay.”
“I’m just worried about some less than happy fans harassing you-”
“Then they don’t deserve to be your fans. They should be happy for you.” You were right, and the two of you had been friends for years at this point and no one could have been a better partner to him than someone who had basically been one to him since his first year of high school. He nodded, turning on the ring light and unplugging his headphones before starting the stream.
KodzukenLover25: Omg! Hi Kodz! We missed you!
PINKAPPLES: Hi! Kenma! Whose that with you? Special guest?
BIGDOGBEEF564: She’s hot
You couldn’t help but giggle at the comments as you read them on the screen, Kenma looked at you with soft eyes and a smile. Someone on the stream caught it.
PINKAPPLES: OMG! DID YOU SEE THE WAY HE LOOKE AT HER. I WANT SOMEONE TO LOOK AT ME LIKE THAT.
VOLLEYBALLLADIES45: OMG IS THIS IS A GIRLFRIEND REVEAL!?
“Yes, it is.” Kenma spoke into the camera, letting the messages in the just chat box on the overlay flood with both good comments and neutral comments but very little bad ones. “This is yn, she was my manager on the volleyball team in high school. As of a few months ago, my girlfriend.”
“Hello!” you waved, linking your hand in Kenma’s when you felt it run across your thigh.
“I really hope you all will be kind to her. She means a lot to me and will be making appearances in my streams on occasion and on other social media.” He looked at you again, “Ready to play?”
“Am I ever. I’m gonna kick your ass this time.” He hit a button on his dock, switching the screens around and handing you a controller.
Dear Kenma.
I hope you’re getting sleep right now. I know you like to stay up late, and get up early to play your games but we have nationals tomorrow. I hope that if you are awake you’re at least awake because your nervous like me. Kind of selfish, I know but it makes me feel better anyway.
I can’t wait to play the new Pokémon game with you soon, and practice Mario Kart. There some of my favorite times with you, I love how you help me get better enough to beat the boys. I can’t explain why, I know that I like you but it gives me butterflies when you praise me at a game for doing well or not dying to quickly. I’m happy you don’t bored of me.
I hope it can stay like this forever. It’s so calming, comforting, like nothing else matters. You probably won’t ever know, or see this. Who knows what the future holds.
