dabi / tōya todoroki x gender neutral reader; fluff ( hurt / comfort if you squint ), mild mentions of abuse, mild suicidal ideation, pre-established relationship, authors hcs used. if you need anything else tagged, please let me know!
i love writing interactions with dabi more realistically, medical wise. please be prepared for that in all of my dabi works! it is a little awkwardly fit in, but that's on purpose. injuries aren't comfortable.
dabi hated being touched. as a child, it was a cruel reminder of things he wouldn't get unless he was crying by his brothers side. as an adult, it was just a safety hazard. fingers slicked with grease, dirt, and blood touching fragile, rotten flesh? it would definitely end in an unplanned death. and believe him, he had a plan to die.
or, he did anyways. there were always exceptions to rules, bumps in the road that took a perfectly crafted plan, one that he obsessed over for years, and made it violently topple down in seconds like it was a house of cards that had just been beaten with a rock.
you were his rock.
if anyone else did this, he would snarl and threaten to harm them. or just raise his fist and set their face on fire. but you? he only flinchs in mild surprise when you come up behind him, wrapping your arms around his torso like he belongs in your lap.
when dabi leans his head back and presses his nose into the crook of your neck, he finds himself agreeing. he belongs here.
“good morning, baby. you’re up early.” you mutter, twisting both so you can kiss his forehead and give him enough access to your neck that he can inhale against it.
“couldn’t sleep. irritated.” dabi replies with half - answers, lacking the energy and will alike to really put effort into it.
he relishes in the way your hands find their way to the back of his head, carefully avoiding the skin grafts that seem like they're everywhere. itchy on his skin, heatedly harassing what isn't dead as though his mind, body, core, and soul aren't constantly on fire.
...though maybe it isn't so bad right now, when your fingers are icy from the combination of a night under the fan and the disgusting - smelling sanitizer on the counter. when your touch holds him together like dabi is a structure that’ll fall apart if the pressure lets up.
when you hold him together with the little things he’d never let anyone else do.
when you kiss, and dabi lets you hold his face, and you press so gently against it like he really, really deserves to be treated so kindly.
when you help dabi redye his hair, and he really relaxes into it while your fingers card through the whitening strands, careful not to let any dye drip from his hair to his skin. it stains, its not clean, and you know that he wouldn't be able to stand it.
its the moments where dabi comes back to your apartment after a long day of dealing with idiots on the streets to find you there, promising a cold bath and comfort food because its just one of those days where he needs to exist and stop struggling with things he doesn't want to struggle with.
its when he can take care of you like you take care of him, because being useful is something that sunk into his skin and then carved itself into his bones the first time a fist struck his unmarred skin. and while he has since learned you will never be a repeat of those times, it still lingers like a waiting disease.
really, its just you. every touch, every kiss, every mumbled word on the rare occasion he isn't okay with being held or you're just a bit too overstimulated by the horrid - smelling medical supplies that you need just can't apply them onto your body. every unspoken thing that comes with your actions—
‘i still love you’
‘i adore you’
‘just because im overwhelmed right now doesn't mean i dont like you anymore’
he cherishes how easy it is to exist around you, without stressing over something like that. everything you do is a reminder of your love for him, and sparks in his heart a love that moulds him into a person. into something that doesn't only exist to find revenge and then die.
...oh.
thats it, isn't it?
you make him want to live. you make him want to rearrange his plans, make room for a future with you. to, for once in his pathetic fucking life, take care of someone with gentle, kind things instead of with an inferno.
you’ve given him a purpose. and he’ll tell you that when he realizes it, and the day after, and every day that follows that.
but today, he doesn't. today, he basks in your attention, knowing it’ll turn into a domestic breakfast, into a bath, and then a goodbye that’s said like he really, really dreads the thought of being away from you for those six - seven hours of every day when you both depart for work.
today, he loves you. one day, in the near future, he’ll live for you.
Look me in the face and tell me UA student!Touya WOULDN'T spread false dating rumors of you and him JUST so that he could tease you and accuse YOU of spreading them like the fucking asshole rich kid he is.
Hi, everyone!! I am much further behind this month, than I thought I’d be. I’ll try my best to get as much out as I can before the end of October, but it would seem that it might be stretched out to the remainder of the year.
Dabi held tight to his darling and omega, heating up their body with his own. They'd caught some sort of bug or something, and was positively trembling with the cold.
Dabi had a weak constitution, but since his quirk had really come into its own strength, his body ran all too high to really get sick all that often. He was at a loss as to what to do with someone who was.
So, he did what he could, running his arms up theirs, cradling them to his chest. They shuddered in relief as his hand brushed against a point on their back.
So, he shifted to that spot.
"Sorry, Touya." They whispered, voice trembling. He hushed them, putting his lips to their hair.
"Never apologize, doll. I'm here to take care of you, remember?"
They nodded, slowly.
Under normal circumstances, he might've taken the time to celebrate a little. His darling had been so good for him, these days. He was actually starting to believe that they were genuine about it, and this only cemented that glorious thought. They turned to him for comfort, rather than shirking away
He had no time to smirk over his victory. He was far too worried about them, for that.
Dabi was in fact glad to have come home from the League, when he had, to see his precious omega cuddled in a nest of more things than usual, more of his things than usual. He didn't have the time to celebrate that either, as he soon smelled the alarm in the air and spotted their wild shivering in the next moment.
It had been a few hours since then, though... They hadn't gotten better, and he was getting nervous. Really nervous. If all the cuddles in the world couldn't help his darling omega, whom he'd spent so much time on, then that was a very big problem.
He'd rather die than take them to Ujiko, not when they had such a splendid quirk for him to defile. His last option was a real hospital , which... Dabi admitted, wasn't a very viable option.
He couldn't send them alone, and he couldn't set for in a public building without being arrested.
He debated calling Hawks, but that wouldn't work either. The hero was still a fake traitor, Dabi knew that. Hawks would report him for kidnapping and his darling would be taken away. Not an option.
Dabi curled further around his omega, as he mulled over what to do.
"Omega?" He purred. They hummed, weakly. "Do you want to go to a hospital?" He asked, softly.
They shook their head no, with more energy than he'd seen from them in the past few hours. "No, no." She whined, "Too cold... Too cold without you." Tears began to splash against his chest. Dabi was quick to sooth them, drying their tears and turning up the heat more. They curled even tighter to him, if it were possible.
Dabi accepted that, more than his darling knew, he accepted their wishes to remain with him. But he still had to do something... Maybe....
"Love, I'm going to take you to work with me." He said, carefully, "I won't leave your side. Toga and Mr. Compress should know enough to help you. Or at the very least, Kurogiri. I'll never leave you. Promise." He kissed their forehead, again. As he did so often.
They nodded, slowly into his chest. He plucked their favorite stuffed animal as well as the blanket he'd stolen from their apartment, since they'd flipped without it, when they were nesting.
Wrapping them in the blanket, and tucking the stuffed dragon to their chest, he carried them close.
It was cold outside, their increased shivers said as much. He turned up the heat. It was as much as he could manage without actually drawing forth fire.
Dabi hurried to the edge of the rather large property he kept his darling in, and called Kurogiri as soon as he was out of its boarder. It was something he did frequently. Kurogiri was the only one who knew of the one special place he dared to call home.
"Dabi?" Kurogiri's voice rang through.
"Need an emergency transport to base. My darling is sick, and I can't take her to any normal doctor... Not Ujiko, either."
Kurogiri was silent for a moment, before a purple misted portal opened.
Dabi looked down on his darling, his beloved Omega. She'd passed out, still shuddering. One arm clutched his shirt and the other held the dragon to her chest.
He smiled, holding her tightly and stepped through.
"Never told me you had a player two." Shigaraki growled as soon as Dabi was through the portal.
"She's mine." Dabi said, immediately, the scents of other alphas putting him on high alert, especially when his Omega was there. "I won't share."
Toga maneuvered to see their face, normally so gentle and now contorted in pain. Their hair was splayed about and was frankly a mess. An eager expression ap[eared on Toga's face.
He let his body cool, just a tad. His darling curled closer to him, seeking that warmth. It was a show of ownership, on Dabi's part.
Toga huffed, getting the hint. She backed up.
Dabi's eyes flared in warning to the others. Once that was established, it was merely a matter of waiting, to see who would move first. Dabi couldn't wait long, however.
He shuffled, but fortunately for him, Mr. Compress was the first to move.
"Symptoms?" He asked. Dabi was hesitant, but deciding to trust the league, Dabi began to list them. Everyone forgot their issues for a moment. The League worked together, using the little medical knowledge they could.
By the time the omega awoke, their shivers had slowed and they felt a big better.
"Tou-" She muttered out, but Dabi shushed her, softly.
"Dabi, here. Kay, doll?" He asked. They nodded sleepily, reaching for him from the couch they'd been laid on.
Dabi quickly scooped them into his arms, letting them lean into his warmth. Another sigh of relief escaping them.
"Thank you." They mumbled, before drifting back to sleep.
Shigaraki was watching, a strange feeling in his chest. Whether it was jealousy or disgust at the display, he didn't know. All he knew, is that it was an unfamiliar feeling.
"Dabi." He said, "Bring your player two over sometime. I want to see why some Omega's got you wrapped around their little finger.
Sparks of blue flame fell from Dabi, as his brow twitched with fury and annoyance, however... He knew he owed Shigaraki. He nodded.
Kurogiri warped them back to Dabi's usual drop off point.
Dabi carried his darling back to their little house, and to his room, where her nest laid.
He tucked them into it, before curling around them, himself. Protecting them from anything in the outside world.
"Sleep tight, Darling." He whispered, pressing his lips to their forehead.
"Night... Love." They said back. Dabi didn't let it show how much his heart soared at the new nickname he'd been given. He'd sworn to protect his darling from the world, and if he wasn't going to make good on that vow earlier, he certainly was now.
He awoke to empty arms, and damn near panicked, but when the scent of French toast and bacon entered his nose, he was quickly at ease. It didn't take him a moment to leap from the nest to greet his lovely, lovely omega in the kitchen. His darling.

Also, i tried to make it from Touya’s POV the best I could.
It started off you two were watching a movie in your parent’s living room. It’s just you two in the living room watching the movie. As the movie goes on you two are slowly leaning in towards the middle of the couch. You turn to look at Touya and give him a smile. Touya turns and responds with a smile and tries to lean in to kiss you. Immediately, you sit up straight and make yourself small.
“This is a really great movie.”
“Yeah,” Touya responds sitting back up, taking the hint.
As the movie continues he goes to lay on the couch putting his head in your lap. Chills instantly go up your spine, and you feel your face get hot.
“Are you okay?” he asked cocking an eyebrow as he looked at you. You avoided his gaze, trying really hard to focus on the movie.
“Fine!”
This wasn’t supposed to be any different. Yet when you two started dating everything felt different. You and Touya have watched plenty of movies before. You’ve fallen asleep on him and he’s fallen asleep on you. It was never weird. Now, it just felt like things were out of place.
Eventually, Touya leaves and you go to your room feeling like an idiot.
Touya at his house collapses on his bed and lets out a heavy sigh.
And you both thought: What the fuck is wrong with me?
The next day:
Touya’s on a route with another hero when they get caught up in facing a few villains. Touya while fighting, is out of it. He and one of the villains get caught in an alley.
“What's wrong little boy?! Scared?!”
“No.” Touya blasts him off and stands up straight. “My best friend and I just started dating and now she's acting weird.”
“What?”
“I just thought everything would be the same! We’d just act like ourselves but now we're official! Ugh!” Touya scratches his head, “I should've never listened to my sister.”
“Whoa, listen man.”
“What do you think?”
“What?”
“What do you think about this whole situation?”
“Uh?? Is this a trap?”
“No.” Touya rolls his eyes. “What'd you do steal a purse? Put money in an expiring stall? I don't care, man, sometimes we make mistakes to get by just tell me what do you think?” Touya sits down against the alley wall.
“Well,” the guy sits down next to him “How long have you guys been friends?”
“Forever. Literally, since we were kids.”
“And you like her don't you?”
“Yeah man, I just don't know why it's so weird now.”
“Well, being friends before you've just been used to it for so long but now being together opens a door to a whole new exploration.”
“Mhm. Mhm.” Touya nods listening to him.
“Because before I'm assuming you guys haven't done anything.”
“Whoa man, like…”
“Yeah.” The guy rubbed the back of his neck. “Like you're a good looking kid I’m sure you've dated other girls or whatever.”
“Not really. I've been on dates and fooled around with other girls just not her...ooooo.” Touya nods as the gears clicked in his head.
The villain gentle punches him. “Yeah man. So since you've never done things together because you're friends it opens that door and that is where she could be nervous?”
“So, what do I do?”
“Take her on a date something you guys have NEVER done in all years of friendship and ease into it. Try hand holding for hand for extended amounts of time and then putting your arm around her.”
“Wow. Thanks, man.” Touya and the villain share a bro hug. “That really puts it into perspective for me.”
“Yeah and no matter what you do don't rip it off like a bandaid. Take your time and ask her what she wants. Girls love that shit.”
Touya laughs. “Thanks, dude that's some solid advice and I know you just helped me but can you do me another solid?”
“Sure?”
“Punch me in the face, take the $20 out of my wallet, and get out of here.”
“What?”
“Y’know just to make it believable. We all make mistakes and do things when we're desperate. I know you were scamming people with your magic tricks and I don't care but I really appreciate you helping me.”
“You are a strange kid, thank you.”
“No problem. You take care.”
And the guy punched Touya in the face.
The hero Touya was with found him and took him back to the agency. Touya had a black eye but other than that he was fine. He wrote his report and when he wrapped up, he was on his way to UA to pick you up.
On the way to the school, he pulled out his wallet for his train pass.
Oh yeah.
He remembered that he told the guy to take the money out of his wallet. From the looks of it everything seemed to be there, but inside the $20 was gone and in its place is a $100 and a note.
"Pastel Sweets. Ask for Aura. Good luck."
“That bastard,” Touya whispered to himself with a smirk on his face. He put the note back in his wallet. Then proceeded to look up the establishment on his phone.
It was well after hours of school. You were probably just getting out of a faculty meeting. Either way, he was waiting outside of the gates for you.
“What happened to you?” You asked as you were coming up to him.
“The villain tricked me at work and got a good hit in.”
“Oh, Touya.” you cover his eye and use your quirk to heal it.
“Thanks, love.”
You blush furiously. “No problem,” you respond with a smile and Touya felt his heartbeat race.
“You okay?” he asks.
“Just fine, Toys.”
He smiles down at you. “You’re beautiful.” He says while casually taking your hand giving it a small squeeze. You smile back at him and hold his hand in return.
Baby steps.
“Hey, someone at work told me about this awesome dessert shop in town. Want to go?”
Oh boy, someone help this man. He loves you, he really REALLY does but GOD if you don't make it hard sometimes..
Everytime you break into a rant about the hero he just bites you, no explanation, no warning just CHOMP. On cheek, on neck, on shoulder, on YOUR STOMACH. This guy does NOT care-
just say the shitty hero's name again and he's punishing you by casually taking a bite out of you.
You asked Touya for the nth time about what you were wearing. He had told you it's fine, it's good, his family doesn't care, stop worrying and God knows how many more reassuring words that seem to fall on deaf ears for you. He could see your nervous expression and your little anxiety ticks.
"For the last time, you look amazing. No one is gonna dislike your outfit.."
He said and trailed off, clicking his tongue in annoyance before muttering,
"..they better not."
Touya huffed before finally ringing the door bell. You stood by him, dying inside from nervous. The door swung open, revealing the menacing figure of the number two hero, Endeavor. He stared at you for a while and you were sure you were gonna get cussed at but then his eyes soften... eh? What? You had heard about the number two hero being scary, judgmental and cruel but what the FUCK is this?
Or, an AU where Enji Todoroki went to the seko peak when Touya asked him to and genuinely, *actually* changed when Touya showed how much he had grown on his own.
I really liked the concept of this, and I thought it felt unfinished, I thought I would write a part two!
Here’s part one: 1
~Ki
After Dabi had given Shigaraki a piece of his mind, for letting their vulnerable party member go out on a mission, he returned to his room, expecting you to be gone.
As much as he wanted you to stay, he knew better. You had no reason to do so. Why would you?
He opened the door, readying himself for the empty bed that would be before him. Having prepared for that, he absolutely was not ready to see your figure, curled up in his jacket.
Dabi sputtered, unaware of what to do or how to deal with the current situation.
You began to shift, hearing him. He quickly silenced himself, making his way over to you. He brushed his hand over your cheek, the warmth and gentle touch lulling you back to sleep.
Dabi sighed, glad he wasn't the reason you were startled from your slumber... Especially when you looked so peaceful. Your features had relaxed and softened.
This was hardly the face of a villain, he thought, almost bitterly. How could someone like you be so comfortable in a place where a monster like him resided? You deserved better. You were... You were more pure than he was. You were better than he was.
He sighed, allowing himself the moment to admire you. Ever curve of your face, the glow the gentle light basked upon your skin.
He grabbed his blanket and covered your body again. How troublesome.
Dabi forced himself to keep from moving to join you under the covers. To embrace human touch once more. You weren't like him, he didn't have the right to bask in the way you'd made him felt so... So... So human.
It wasn't a feeling he was familiar with. It had been too long since he'd remembered a touch that didn't bring any sort of pain along with it.
You woke back up a few hours later. Dabi wasn't there, but you were covered in a blanket you were certain wasn't there, when you'd fallen asleep. It wouldn't be too out of character for you to have grabbed it in your sleep, but... Something told you didn't.
You got up, holding Dabi's coat close to your body.
You left his room to go find your fellow villain.
He was sitting at the bar, tolerating Toga's usual ramble, while Shigaraki was sulking by the wall.
It was a familiar sight to be sure. You walked past him, casually dropping the long coat over his shoulder as you did, and sitting on Toga's other side.
She didn't stop her tale for a moment, recounting her and Twice's mission, where she had apparantly successfully gotten a hero's blood.
You sat by the other villains, staring at your neatly folded hands, idly listening to Toga. You took in the details of the chipped nail polish from when Toga had insisted on doing them a few weeks ago. Dabi had actually kept his, which surprised everyone, but it melted off on a mission.
Maybe Toga would suggest another nail day. You thought to Dabi, black polish shining on the tips of his fingers, but quickly shoved the thought down.
He was only taking care of his fellow villain. No need to start thinking about all of this. Not about the fact that you could still sort of smell Dabi on your cloths, or that your skin still prickled with his warmth.
You felt eyes on you, though you made no effort to acknowledge them. The coldness of the stare was enough alone to tell you it was Dabi, and those icy eyes of his. They held fire behind them, intense and vibrant, but... They were always so cold, like they pierced straight through you.
You didn't mind it, most of the time.
You were villains. Everyone in the league of villains had a dark gaze, that made their enemies stop and think about the old pre-quirk phrase, "if looks could kill". You were no exception, of course.
But there was something intense about Dabi's stare this time, raising the hairs on the back of your neck. You fought to keep your quirk from activating, and separating out bits of you into the air under the pressure.
Maybe it was because you hadn't thanked him. You didn't want to admit that you'd fallen asleep in Dabi's arms while he was taking care of you on the mission, not in front of anyone else, anyways.
You would thank him, you had intended to. Just not where Toga and Shigaraki could hear.
You glanced to the door, and stood, pulling a package of cigarettes from your pocket, stolen from Dabi's jacket. A good excuse to talk to him again, you figured.
Dabi spotted the package, as you made your way to the door, stepping outside for a moment.
"That little-" He grit his teeth, as he realized you'd stolen them from him. He wasn't nice enough to forgive pick pockets, not even from other league members.
He threw the door open, and stepped outside, his coat billowing behind him.
A light thud hit the back of his head. He whirled around, catching them. He looked up from them to glare at you, those intense blue eyes cutting through you.
"Better watch those pockets, in a place like this." You said, lightly. He glanced at the pack in his hands, and looked back up at you, quizzically.
"Why'd you even take them?" He muttered, noticing the weight hadn’t changed, so they were all still there…
"You wouldn't have come out if I didn't... I- I wanted to thank you." You said. “You didn’t have to take care of me, but you did. Thank you.”
He eyed you, something oddly… oddly vulnerable in his expression. He quickly masked it. “Aww, how cute.” He teased. “Careful doing sappy shit like that around here, it could get you into trouble.” He said, patting your head like a child and going back inside.
Dabi cursed himself, as soon as he was through the door. He pocketed the cigarettes, muttering something or other, that he wasn’t honestly paying attention to, and stalked off to his room. He landed on the bed, and was immediately assaulted by the scent of a sky before a rainstorm. He sighed, again, turning over onto his side, not caring at all that his boots were now on the bed.
He couldn’t get off track. Taking care of you, we’ll that had felt nice. But that was the end of it. Or it should have been. There should have been no reason for you to apologize to a villain like him, never mind the fact that you were a villain also. He should never have let himself get close enough to feel like that.
It was like you gently pulled him open and could see everything he kept hidden, inside. That was it, he told himself. No more letting you get to him, just because you didn’t shy away from his touch one time, when you by all means had no choice.
Dabi told himself that, but as these things always went, that lasted all of three days.
The cold weather had subsided enough for you to safely go on missions. Well, until there was another cold front, anyways. But either way, you and Dabi were out on another intelligence mission. Typical, for the moment. The league was trying to stay beneath the radar for the moment, so intelligence was all anyone was doing.
Dabi couldn’t help but glance at you, when things were slow at the hero agency you were spying on. There really wasn’t much of note, so Dabi found the whole thing ridiculous. But yet, he got the opportunity to look at you. He was telling himself he was just checking to make sure you didn’t start freezing again, and maybe that was some part true. But he also was just looking. Staring, memorizing every aspect to your person.
You said something. He tore his eyes away from your figure, to your face.
”Huh?”
”I said take a picture, it lasts longer.” You rolled your eyes, looking back down at the heroes.
“That’s a dangerous game to play.” Dabi warned, leaning back a little.
”What’s that supposed to mean? You’re the one who’s been avoiding me. To scared to be vulner-“
Your words died, as you looked up at him. He’d pushed you onto the roof, and was hovering over you, dangerously.
”I’m not scared, doll. Not of anything.” He said, slowly. “But you could stand a little more fear, I think.”
You bit the inside of your lip, debating on whether or not to fire back. But with the cocky expression on his face, it was difficult to resist.
”And you could stand a little more tact.” You shot back. Your body splashed down, going around him, so he no longer had you pinned. “Focus on the mission, Dabi.” You said, with a smirk. He chuckled, lowly, shifting back to his original position.
A dangerous game, indeed.
It only got worse, from there. Dabi really should have known better than to let himself think he could just forget the way you fit so perfectly in his arms, let alone think he could get your fierce words out of his mind. But every time he spoke, the more sarcastic he was, the worse you were. You echoed around him, keeping him up at night, thinking about how he was going to push your buttons tomorrow.
The rest of the league was growing rather tired of it. Ever since the two of you had gone on that mission together, you hadn’t stopped. It was constant flirting, back and forth and back and forth.
You were talking to Mr. Compress, discussing the finer points of your quirk, and how shaping your body with water worked. Then Dabi walked in.
Spinner immediately let his head fall onto the counter, waiting for it to start.
You ignored Dabi, at first. But that only served to make him want to antagonize you more. He sat by you, “Well, there are certainly worse quirks, but it’s such a shame how vulnerable you are, doll.” He said, immediately hitting a sore spot for you, inserting himself in conversation.
”You of all people have absolutely no room to talk, bacon bits.” You spun around, to glare at him.
He smirked, “Oh, I don’t think you mind too much.” His smirk widened “The scars make the man.”
”And the ego makes the ass.” You rolled your eyes, “I’m not really up for listening to the ramblings of an arrogant, fire-spewing, low rate-“
”Gods, just get a room, already.” Shigaraki spat.
Dabi scoffed, leaning back, disengaging from what had been building to be quite the insult that he'd been excited to counter.
You looked at Shigaraki, who was still standing by the door. You couldn't resist getting in one last word.
"Please." You smirked, "Dabi couldn't handle me."
"Oh no." Mr. Compress sighed, holding his head in his hands.
"That so, sweat pea?" Dabi glared at you, intense eyes splitting through your soul.
"Yeah. That's so."
He stood, moving closer to you, well within any personal bubble you might have had.
"Or are you the one who couldn't handle me?" He asked, leaning in closely enough you could feel the heat of his breath, and all you could see were those eyes.
"Get. A. Room." Shigaraki hissed, as he threw something at Dabi, though missed.
It hit Mr. Compress, instead. You turned, to make sure he was alright, but Dabi took the opportunity of your distraction to pick you up, and sling you over his shoulder.
"Dabi!" You squeaked.
"Boss's orders, doll." He smirked, voice low. You flushed brightly, brain short circuiting. You didn't even think to use your quirk to escape, you just hid your face in your hands, feeling the stares of the rest of the league, suddenly all to aware of Dabi and how close he was to you.
Of course, the arrogant asshole would take the opportunity to embarrass you in such a way. You hadn't thought your playful banter would ever get this far.
