#reading comprehension fail

Fully willing to buy that study going around about English majors, and particularly English ed majors, not knowing how to read Dickens because just anecdotally, some of the people I've known who were the very worst at reading comprehension I've ever met in my life were high school English teachers with ed degrees, and that includes some of my own high school English teachers - but particularly includes way too many people I've known in book clubs that are reading books that are way below the level of most of what is assigned in honors/AP/IB English courses.

many Trigun spoilers— I feel so dense. I'm realizing so many things on what's got to be my 7th or 8th re-read of Trigun. Fair's fair, the first 3 times I read it with a really bad translation that confused the hell out of me. But this is my 5th read of the good one, and I JUST NOW realized that the woman Livio meets on the street who gives him her cloak was the same girl whose puppy he killed. I'm so dumb. All this time I thought it was some kind of weird insta-love bullshit, and I was so confused that he knew her name at all. -50 reading comprehension points for me. And another -50 for not realizing Nicholas was on the ark the whole time. And -100 for thinking it was Knives who stabbed Rem and not Vash—probably because I skimmed over the part where Knives passed out. I wanna be like "ooh I'm noticing so much more nuance to the story every time I read it" when in reality I'm still working on the obvious. God knows what I'll find on re-read no.9. On no.7 I realized the old man from ship 3 got killed—I still don't know if I'm supposed to understand who Isabel was. It wasn't until no.4 that I figured out it wasn't Knives who killed Wolfwood (incomprehensible translation mostly to blame). I think on no.5 I got the bit about Wolfwood stealing the Chapel identity. Boy it's so fun to get to read a new story in the same story every time because I can never figure out what the hell is going on, and then I forget the rest. The perks of adhd.

Sure, dude. If despair, grief, generational trauma, loss of autonomy, and the notion that all trust is fleeting and love won't win the day isn't scary enough for you, go back to your splatterfests I guess.

I honestly believe that had the Yeerks not found us, and the Andalites had in say a few short centuries made first contact instead, we would be seen as threats by them that needed to be put to heel...or death (for the greater good of course)

So I admit I had to reread this ask three or four times, each time going “who is ‘us’?  Is it the Animorphs?  I kinda thought the andalites already did find the Animorphs before the yeerks did...” before it finally dawned on me that (I assume) “we” is the human species.

Anyway

This is an accurate headcanon of pain.  Thanks, I hate it.

I've messaged my new landlord 3 times in the past week to ask him what day the trash pick up service is and every time he totally ignored the question.

im both drug user and alcoholic. and i admit that both are bad. u can still enjoy them while admitting that they're bad. no need to be defensive lol

thats literally not what im saying at all ...

im talking about alcoholics treating drugs and drug users with bigotry/stigma [because of being] in a society where drinking is culturally acceptable but other types of drug use is stigmatized
