Functional internet is a beautiful thing!!! Y’all have no idea how stupidly happy I am right now!
When we first moved moved into this house 10 years ago, we had internet provided by the phone company at a whopping 5mbs, which wasn’t fast, but we could at least get on-line, watch videos, and the boys could play Xbox.
Then the phone company started putting in super high speed fiber optics everywhere EXCEPT HERE and giving people speeds up to 1GB everywhere EXCEPT HERE, and as more people got those guaranteed high speeds, ours got slower and slower until we never saw speeds over 2mbs and most days struggled to get even 1mbs. The boys cancelled their xbox live memberships. Netflix no longer functioned here. I used up all of our cellular data each month using my phone as hotspot just to do computer work I brought home for my job.
We’ve lived like this for over two years now, and it’s AWFUL.
But today is a brand new day because the cable company finally came down our little country road, and as of today I have wifi all over my house that connects at 100mbs!! Son #1 already reactivated his xbox live account, downloaded one game while playing another and watched videos on his phone at the same time. Meanwhile, I pulled up tumblr on the desktop, started playing YouTube on my phone, and booted up my laptop to access my massive work files.
We are doing ALL THESE THINGS AT THE SAME TIME!! Yesterday, you could barely check your EMAIL on your phone if somebody else was on Twitter!!! And ALL OF THESE THINGS are loading quickly and not freezing or just dropping out entirely and . . . I AM JUST SO HAPPY!! I can now get my work done efficiently, and if I’m wasting time on the internet, it’ll be on things I WANT to waste it on rather than waiting eternally for the stupid thing to just work!!
Okay, I’ll stop flailing all over my keyboard now. I have work to do. And thanks to FUNCTIONAL INTERNET, I know I’ll finish in time for our regular Tuesday Night Trivia down at the local sports bar. Which is a good thing--because it’s ALL Disney trivia tonight, and we are prepared to kick butt! :-D
