ADA (USA) stuff
I’m starting to get used to the idea I’ll need accommodations whenever I get a job job. But I still have some hang ups regarding application processes.
They always tell you “apply first, ask for accommodations once you get the job” and that you need to consider your qualifications/abilities to be what you can do when you have your appropriate accommodations.
BUT!!! What if I need reduced hours but the only openings are for full time??? Like clearly I cannot do a full time job’s entire duties on part time hours. But reduced hours ARE an acknowledged reasonable accommodation in all the examples I read!
Maybe this is my neurodivergence talking but… it feels too much like lying to apply to a FT job when you need reduced hours/duties!! :( They’re looking for certain duties to get done and then I turn up saying “haha you’re only gonna get half”?
I know disability rights are so bad in the us that we need to acknowledge 90% of businesses wouldn’t even give you the time of day knowing you’re disabled. But lying (or “lying”) feels soooo soooo bad, I don’t know how I’m going to get the courage to apply to jobs.
Does anyone have any perspective or advice?? :C
