FFS! Flash Fiction Saturdays: Rebellion
To rebel is so much more than just rising up with arms to overthrow a president.
It is the instrument of change, the voice of the oppressed, what brings life to a decaying stagnating way of living. The inner power that sets you to fight something greater than yourself, perhaps in hopes of achieving something even greater, for someone you love, or maybe for the kicks of it.
That resistance against something; be it the government, authority, society, culture, or even reality itself.
This week's FFS! features texts on this theme, for us to contemplate what this might mean by exploring the fics, and what we might learn from it.
Read The Socialist by Ryunosuke Akutagawa here.
Read Freedom Toll by EJ Dahm here.
Read Freedom by Bonnie Cehovet here.
Read Rise Up, Save the World by Emma Lindhagen here.
Read Rebellion by Pat Cummings here.
Read Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. here.
Though rebellion by form is generally unpopular and unacceptable, the narrative of it has been a much-loved part of human storytelling as far as we can trace back human literature; the young girl who refuses to back down against an opponent perceived to be more powerful by society, the young boy refusing to bow down to his people's standards though his culture demands otherwise; hell, even writing is usually a rebellion in itself; words could set a person's mind to an inkling of an idea, an idea that may kick start a movement, a rebellion that changes the world (hopefully for the better?).
Join us on IG Live as Jin leads the discussion on rebellion with a special guest on Saturday, 19th June at 4:30PM (GMT+5)! https://www.instagram.com/boardroommv/

It’s like there is a thing that has suddenly bubbled up to the surface.
It’s something I never thought lived in me, but, alas, here it is.
It’s been all the waiting and all the staying put that has drown me crazy.
Man, I got to taste youth and recklessness
and now I am all for it.
I know it might not be mature or good or just overall okay,
but I can’t stop myself -
what is the point of a life lived in fear?
Valentine's Day is my favorite day to rebel against the idea of needing someone else in order to be whole. Fuck you I'm gonna be my own soulmate.
Rebel
Maybe teenagers rebel
not because they feel like it’s cool
or because they think they have too.
I think some teenagers rebel,
because there is a fire running wild in them
and they no longer feel
like their parents can put it off.
They feel like it’s time to figure things on their own.
After all,
when a flame turns into a forest fire
it’s every animal for itself.
