"You're not supposed to take rejections when applying for jobs personally!" I'm sorry but I have a brain belonging to a social mammal if I receive too many stimuli indicating rejection my brain assumes I've been abandoned by my pack and am going to die alone in the wilderness

Applying for jobs as a human is so stressful. I just need a job I can physically do to get me by for a few years while I tackle my health problems. But no human ever sees my applications because it's filtered by a shitty AI or an outdated ATS that just looks for exact few keywords. My story is ingored, any sympathy I would have gotten from another human being is blocked. If I was a young adult in the 90s putting in an application in person, at the very least it would have been seen by a human being with presumably some amount of understanding. But now when I walk into stores asking for any job that doesn't make me lift 50 pounds all day, I get told to apply online where all the bots can fail to read what I've spent hours writing. It's like I'm not even applying for recruiters anymore, I'm applying for robots. How the heck am I supposed to understand how a robot reads and sorts things made for humans?

At this rate I'll never be able to afford my surgery. I don't know what I'll do if this doesn't work out. I don't feel human enough to live, but I'm too human to make a living. This is Hell.

there's an ever-growing list of things that will make me click out of a job application. all of these things are applicable depending upon my mood:

requiring a login

requiring a cover letter

requiring my full address

requiring my age

requiring pretty much any personal information beyond my name/number/e-mail

requiring me to answer questions about my "personality"

requiring me to answer behavioral interview questions in the application itself

requiring references

requiring a drug test of any kind for an e-mail job

listing the job as Remote and then sneaking in a 1, 2, 3, etc. day requirement at the very bottom

not listing the salary

listing the salary in a ridiculously broad range (40k-95k???)

anything prioritizing AI usage where it doesn't belong

requiring me to enter my work experience in addition to my resume

requiring me to enter a list of arbitrary "skills" that are already on my resume

requiring me to complete additional questions via e-mail

requiring me to complete a puzzle or project

requiring me to do a presentation during the interview process

requiring me to work a schedule 5> days per week, regardless of the hours

using language that implies up front that working extra hours or putting in extreme effort is a regular expectation

using language that implies i will have no guidance and will have to be totally self-sufficient from day 1

there's probably more. i realize this makes it exponetially more difficult to find a job. i am fine with that. maybe i won't be in a few months but for now, i'd rather starve than spend my time on this shit just for a job that is probably going to discard me like rotten meat in a few years anyway.

Reality check bs

It’s fucking EXHAUSTING. Am I the only one feeling this way? Like you’re not asking for the world, you just want a stable job, a place to belong, something simple, and yet it feels like you have to jump through hoops on fire while solving a Rubik’s cube blindfolded just to get a chance.

And all the “Do a Master’s!” or “Upskill this!” or “Try this unpaid internship!” advice just makes it worse like bro, when do I actually live??

The system is just… broken in so many ways. LinkedIn feels like a high school popularity contest, email is just digital begging at this point, and the 4-stage interview circus?? For an entry-level job?? Like why do I need to do a thesis defense to become a junior anything???

This whole setup is not made for humans, it's made for robots with 10 years of experience at age 22, who love networking and wake up at 5 AM to meditate and code.

Why is it always my fault I don’t get the job? Has anyone ever considered that the hiring system we have now is arbitrary and difficult for no reason? Especially for neurodivergent people?
