Asdfjkaldkfj okay I am sorry but I just saw your tags on the Grisha trailer. And as a German I have to ask: why would the nobility have a german accent, that's like my worst nightmare. I already have to listen to my own german accent, I can't handle hearing it in this show
Because European nobility intermarried each other and a few of the famous Russian royals were of Germanic descent. Catherine the Great was technically German. I think even Alexander II - you know, the famous Romanov - was also of Danish descent.
But Russian royals spoke French for the most part, with some German and English. Slavic languages, Russian included, was considered for peasants. So honestly, I don’t even know what kind of accent they would have. Some posh European one.
I don’t actually think they would to appropriate accents. I was just wondering why they let Ben Barnes keep his British accent?? To highlight that he’s a villain?? To make him sexier??? It’s not fair, us Darkling fangirls are already prejudiced against because of some thots in the ranks.
