Who are you, when you're not hiding behind your mother's legacy? (Part 2)
Mira Kang invades Rumi's life like a storm. Or, perhaps, like a big cosmic joke whose punchline Rumi doesn't get.
Mira quickly becomes Celine's favourite. The strongest of the two girls, the tallest, the one who doesn't question her place and purpose as a future Hunter.
The one who had the guts to spit on family traditions and expectations and leave everything behind, like her family are no more than annoying pets she never wanted.
It hurts. Gods and Honmoon above, it hurts.
It hurts, and she hates how Mira is so unabashedly herself, when all Rumi has ever managed (or been allowed) to be is Miyeong's perfect clone.
Mira, and her natural pink hair.
(" Do you think..." Rumi barely dares to formulate the thoughts that have been tormenting her since Mira strutted into their house. "Do you suspect she might have demonic heritage? Like me?"
Celine couldn't be more unbothered if she tried.
"Probably. But it's far above her in her family tree. Her parents and grandparents are not demons. I personally verified it."
"She deserves to know. Don't you think?"
Celine finally stops paying attention to the various documents spread in front of her.
"If we are the ones to open her eyes, she will raise questions about your own hair colour. That girl is wickedly perceptive. She will connect the dots immediately, and what do you think will happen next?")
(She never talks about Mira's hair colour again. Celine knows best.)
The one and only time Mira disappoints Celine is when she summons her weapon.
Mira screeches in excitement as she waves her beautiful, impeccably designed gok-do in front of Rumi and Celine, and oh, that's probably the day Rumi feels a little better with herself. Free from the jealousy that has only been growing within her since the day Mira came into her life.
Mira summoning the gok-do automatically means she can't be the leader of the Hunters. The leader always summons the sacred Sa-in-geom sword.
Like Celine used to summon it.
Celine, who is looking at Mira with the same disappointment she looks at Rumi whenever she falters during training.
"I hoped you would have summoned the sacred sword. You are born to lead, not just be the second-in-command."
Mira doesn't seem offended in the slightest.
"Nah. This is far cooler. Now I get to be a fighter without worrying about leading."
Celine only shakes her head and leaves the girls alone under the sacred Hunter's tree.
"For what it's worth, Princess, I believe you are going to be our leader. I know we haven't met the third girl yet, but you have what it takes to lead."
Mira's words wash upon her like a bucket of ice cold water.
She. A half demon.
Leader of the Hunters.
She looks at Mira, who's still inspecting her gorgeous Starlight weapon.
Mira, who will be the second-in-command like Miyeong.
Mira, who stole Miyeong's legacy from Rumi like it means nothing.
"You don't know what you're talking about, Kang.", Rumi hisses and runs as fast as she can.
As far away from Mira as possible.
Rumi's despair only grows when, barely a week later, she summons the Sa-in-geom.
"I still believe you would have been an excellent second-in-command for Mira, like your mother was for me. But still. Congratulations."
Celine smiles at her and hands her over a bowl full of fresh strawberries to share with Mira.
Mira, who is looking at her like she's seeing her for the first time.
"Oh, Princess."
"What now?"
"I summoned the gok-do. You were mad at me, because I am not the leader. Because you wanted to be in my place."
Her heart skips a beat. Her head feels like it's going to explode.
Danger, danger, danger. Evade. Conceal. Don't let anyone know.
Her grip on the bowl is the only thing that grounds her.
"Stop. Just shut your big mouth for once."
"I've seen you, you know. How your hair bothers you. How you avoid certain types of food that are supposedly your mom's favourites."
Mira is looking at her with pity.
"You're not even a person, Ryu. You are a ghost."
Before Rumi can react, Mira has already left.
They are barely 15. Mira is 6 months younger than Rumi and yet she has realized more things about Rumi than anyone else.
And Rumi feels seen.
Terrified.
Desperate.
Yet... Desperate to hide?
Or desperate to reveal more?
To be continued...
I am back to a mindset where I can write again without it feeling like punishment, only to realise I have no memory of my own fics.
So here’s to a Harry Potter and the Hunt for Happiness reread! I’m about discover annoying things about my own writing and so many plot lines that I have completely forgotten.
rediscovering music is honestly such an intimate moment with yourself. you're in this portion of your life, maybe during finals week, a trip, extracurriculars, wtv, but it's consuming you. you decide to listen to music, and just put on a playlist. and it plays. and as the beat starts, you're just hit with a wave of nostalgia. it still hits. the singer starts singing, and you close your eyes. it still hits. you hum the lyrics, and you're in the setting you first heard the song. it still hits. everything from that time comes back in your mind - everything you thought, did, said, imagined. you keep thinking until you wind back to the first time you heard the song. it hits.
you realise the amount of changes that've taken place since then. the realisation hits. it doesnt matter how long it's been, the song is the same as the first time you heard it. it still hits. then the tune fades away, and the next track (or ad) begins to play. you open your eyes. you search the song again. you hit play. it still hits.
Two marsupials previously known only from fossils and thought to have vanished 6,000 years ago have been confirmed alive in the rainforests
10/03/2026
In a stunning discovery, two marsupial species believed to have been extinct for some 6,000 years have been refound alive in remote rainforests in West Papua, Indonesia.
The species – Pygmy Long-fingered Possum and Ring-tailed Glider – were previously known only from fossil remains and were thought to have disappeared during the late Holocene. Their rediscovery makes them rare examples of so-called 'Lazarus taxa' – species that vanish from the fossil record for millennia before being found again.
Pygmy Long-fingered Possum is a small, striped marsupial notable for its unusually elongated fourth finger, which it uses to probe decaying wood and extract insect larvae. Fossil evidence indicates that relatives once lived in what is now central Queensland about 300,000 years ago, before disappearing from the record.
Pygmy Long-fingered Possum was thought to have been extinct for 6,000 years (Carlos Bocos).
Lazarus taxa
The second species, Ring-tailed Glider, is related to Australia's greater gliders but differs in having bare ears and a strongly prehensile tail used for gripping branches. Researchers say it represents a newly recognised genus of marsupial, the first described from New Guinea since 1937.
Evidence for the animals' continued existence came from a combination of photographs, re-examined museum material (including a misidentified specimen collected in 1992) and field observations. Crucial field documentation of the possum was made during a 2023 mammal-watching trip, led by Carlos Bocos, with the observers aware at the time that they had found something special at Klalik, as well as a team including mammalogist Tim Flannery, Kris Helgen and researchers associated with the Australian Museum, working alongside Indigenous communities and local scientists in Papua.
Both species inhabit lowland mountain forests in the sparsely populated on the Vogelkop Peninsula of region, an area increasingly threatened by logging and land-use change. Scientists say the findings highlight how little is still known about New Guinea's mammal fauna and suggest that the peninsula's forests may harbour additional species thought long lost.
The newly rediscovered Ring-tailed Glider, which lives in the hollows of tall trees (Arman Muharmansyah).
Among Pompeii's ruins scientists found the proof that finally confirms their theories about Roman concrete.
MIT researchers have finally confirmed that ancient builders harnessed a volatile, high-heat mixing technique. This process grants concrete the ability to repair its own cracks — a breakthrough that could help our own modern infrastructure withstand the elements.

Listening to "all good girls go to hell" by Billie eyelash atm and I just got this idea for a transformers au
So early on in the war starscream is separated from his trinemates thundercracker and skywarp.
They are so far away from eachother that they can barley sense the other and cannot speak through the bond. All the bond does is confirm that the other isn't dead.
Megatron eventually betrays the decepticons and joins the autobots. when this happens starscream is left with a deteriorating faction bc no one listens to him and there is alot of confusion.
Like how can you still fight in a war when the cause has been long lost and the face of your faction betrays you?
Starscream is exhausted and in a battle something happens and he ends up getting sent to some random part of the galaxy by accident by a space bridge maybe.
He finds himself in some dead looking planet injured, he knows its unlikely anyone would find him —if anyone even bothers to look— so he kinda just accepts death.
That is until he realizes he can can feel them through the bond. His trinemates, who he hasent seen for what feels like an eternity, are near!
But he can't really get up with how severe the injuries are.
Now in this part the lyrics
Look at you, needing me
It would be that his trinemates find him
They've changed so much, have become so much more cruel. He can sense it in the harsh way the held him, and in the rough way the dragged him back to base.
Turns out they and a group of the decepticons had been angry at both factions for the atrocious both factions committed while fighting over a cause long lost as they kill their planet.
Once megatron betrayed the decepticons this group ditched everyone else and hid.
So that explains all the sudden missing people when megatron defected...
Im not quite sure what would happen next.
Maybe they'd want the faction leaders dead or want to just live far away.
But one thing is for sure is that in this au i want thundercracker and skywarp to be more cruel and scary, enough that starscream genuinely wonders who they are and if they really are his trinemates.
Basically I want to make it so everyone's mad at the other so it can be toxic yaoi hehe 😛😛
They'll be mad at him for allowing the war to last so long but it gets revealed star DID want the war to be over but no one rly respected him. When megatron was or wasent there.
And star would be mad at the radio silence or something .
And then idk maybe they rediscover the other seeing as they had changed so much since they'd seen the other.
As you can tell this is probably going to be ooc.
The idea JUST popped in my head and I just needed to share it now b4 I forget it.
I want the reasons for the other to be angry to be more reasonable honestly so I need to think about it first.
I HAVE MULTIPLE ANIMATICS IN MIND BUT I CAN DO THEM UNTIL I ACTUALLY LEARN HOW TO ANIMATE THEN
Am I going to write a fanfic? Maybe. Didn't I say this about 5006755325 different ideas? Uhmmm shhhh...
