First final result in, and all numbers coming in around the country are showing a landslide. It’s looking like only a single constituency, Donegal, has voted no and the pro-life campaign have already conceded defeat. Voter turnout the highest in twenty years.
As it happens: Here are the results from each constituency in the Eighth Amendment referendum - http://jrnl.ie/4035220
I just saw. You fecking beauties. Well done 🇨🇮
my name is kaz i votes today in hopes the 8th will go awaye for families, my choice is 'yes'! and in that box, a big fat 'x' #repealthe8th #Together4Yes #RepealTheEighth #YES #voteyes #YesForChange https://t.co/LnprpWRvvt
The Eighth Amendment allowed doctors to give me Pitocin without my knowledge or consent. That Pitocin likely caused the foetal distress that led to a vacuum delivery and episiotomy - again, without my consent.
Termination isn't the only choice taken away by the Eighth. Even those of us who are ready and willing and wanting to have children, even those of us fortunate enough to have healthy pregnancies and foetuses, are affected.
I can't vote on the 25th; despite having lived here since August 2011, I won't be eligible for citizenship until next February. My lack of citizenship hasn't lessened the impact of the 8th on me, but I don't have a voice here.
If YOU have a voice, however you vote, please remember this: you're not just voting for yourself. You're making a choice, one that will affect the choices (or lack thereof) of every uterus-bearing human you know, of every person in love with a uterus-bearing human, and of their children, wanted or not. You're making a choice about our choices, and not just the one about whether or not we become parents.
Please choose compassionately.
Yes for choice! You don’t have to agree with abortion. You do have to give women the choice. Stop policing others bodies! It’s creepy!! #referendum #repealtheeighth #votedyes #ireland (at Cork)
