Replanning my life once again...

No masters, so I have to find a job. I'm stressed af. I don't like to feel this way... not knowing what's happening to me in the near future. But we'll figure this out. We have to.

Trying to fulfill my plans I made when I was twelve honestly freaks me out. I don't think that's healthy. Now I'm replanning everything and I'm considering applying to CEU for a Gender Studies MA like a true liberal 🤣

I’m not getting promoted and I’m not getting my own apartment.

I’m so angry. I worked so hard for nothing. I don’t even know how to escape that store or this apartment. I hate everything right now, and I just want a routine. I hate striving for things and I hate people. I have no idea what I’m going to do.

KALE HOUSE

Project: Apartment replanning and renovation, Bhosale Nagar, Pune.

Clients: Ashwini and Umesh Kale.

Area: 55 sq. m.

Design team: Meghana and Pooja, Mandar Athavale

Ashwini and Umesh Kale bought a small one bedroom apartment which they wanted us to renovate. They approached us with a requirement of carving out an additional space for their teenage son.

The main exercise was the replan and refurbish the old apartment for their present requirements. The existing old kitchen was divided into two by a light weight partition to carve out a room for their son and a compact but efficient kitchen. 

The entrance to the toilet area and wash basin has been taken from the central lobby. The Toilet wall has been moved towards the living to carve out a full compact toilet and one WC area along with a common wash basin area.

The entire floor was redone in off white matt vitrified tiles. The electrical wiring was changed completely and concealed in the walls.  The layout was planned for loose furniture which they were going to bring from their old house.

HEIMATEC INDIA

Project: Office interiors.

Client: Heimatec India Pvt Ltd, Pune.

Floor area: 50 sq.m.

Design team: Pooja and Meghana

The existing office of Heimatec India was on the low height mezzanine level of their shop floor in an old industrial building complex. They approached us with a requirement of replanning the office for additional workstations and bigger conference area.

We needed to extend the mezzanine floor and change the existing layout completely. One single partition separated the Director’s cabin and conference area from the main work space. This work space organisation has been split into two clusters- Engineering and accounts section. The partitions were kept at a heigh of 4′ to give a continuity of space in the otherwise small volume. The work-desks were custom made with the table tops and supports being engineered wood sheets and the 4′ high partitions in ply and MDF with paint finish with soft-boards. Some of the partition materials from the earlier layout was kept and re-used for the new layout. This being a small area with no view to the outside, we added some brightness with the partition wall colour. The floor carpeting is done with vinyl sports floor carpeting over the floor boarding. It was challenging time bound project in terms of space planning and budget management.

FLAT EXTENSION

Project: Apartment extension + Interiors

Intervention area: 800 sq.ft.

Design team: Meghana Kulkarni

Client: Col. and Mrs Joshi, Pune.

Design brief: combining the two apartments with no fuss space planning, finishing and furniture keeping in mind the tight budget.

Col. Joshi bought two adjacent single bedroom apartments in Fatima Nagar, Pune in 2004 and got them combing into one larger apartment of 1200 sq ft. The apartment was big enough for his family of four and his parents visiting occasionally.

Once his son got married, he bough the third 550 sq ft apartment on the same floor They wished to combine the two apartments for the entire family with a common kitchen, dining and living area. The main entrance of the house was to be retained.

This was an exercise in no fuss space planning with basic finishes and absolutely no adornment. Col. Joshi has a collection of furniture and curios collected from various places from his army postings which he wised to display throughout the house.

Apart from masonry changes, the floors of the third apartment were to be changed and the electrical wires behind exposed conduits were to be concealed. Most of their existing furniture was to be re-used and only the furniture of the new bedroom was to be built.

The WC and bath area of the third apartment was to be converted to a large combined bathroom.

ALTERNATIVE 1- Area of intervention: 1330 sq ft.

Changes:

1.One bedroom and existing dining room planned as one large living area

2. Kitchen orientation was to be changed and the existing living room converted to dining area

3. The living room of the new third apartment was to be converted to a yoga studio/multi purpose hall

4. The kitchen and bedroom of the third apartment was to be converted to a large bedroom for the son and daughter in law.

5. The toilet and bath areas of the third apartment were to be converted to a large combined bathroom.

6. The common bathroom next to the kitchen was to be changed to a linear bathroom with a single door.

This proposal was approved, but budget and time restrictions forced me to re-plan the layout

ALTERNATIVE 2- Area of intervention:   770 sq ft.

Changes:

1. The two living rooms were combined to one linear living room.

2. A small study area was carved out from the new linear living room.

3. The kitchen and bedroom of the third apartment was to be converted to a large bedroom for the son and daughter in law.

4. The toilet and bath areas of the third apartment were to be converted to a large combined bathroom.

5. The third apartment’s living room flooring was changed to match the existing living room.

6. The flooring in the new bedroom was changed to a composite wooden floor.

7. The exposed electrical works in the third apartment were concealed to match the existing apartment.

This proposal was finally chosen and was completed in 4 months.
