I have a question for you too! Especially since you turned back to TMNT. I myself like the 2003, IDW, and of course Original Mirage incarnations of the turtles. I never watched the 2012 version, and am looking at the new Rise of the TMNT with a bit of confusion. What do you think of the newer versions of the Turtles? Are any of those series worth looking into?

TMNT has a multiverse, so… You’re not exactly wrong in which version you want to follow because each incarnation of TMNT has it’s own lore. But some continuities of TMNT are better than others, though this is quite subjective… Some, well… are quite odd and disdained– such as Saban’s Next Mutation series and the Michael Bay TMNT movies.

The IDW Universe, the 4Kids TMNT Universe, and the Mirage universe are great universes to follow. I quite like those a lot. Most especially IDW and Mirage the most, as they are tied with one another in my favoring… As for the 2012 version… I only saw bits and parts of it, but I wish I had given it more of a chance when I could, I dismissed it as just sanitized kiddie crap but a few episodes, I really liked.

As for the new Rise of the TMNT… I’ll pass on that. I don’t like what they’re doing with it, so I’m sticking with the IDW and Mirage comics.
