I can’t wait for my cleaning products to arrive !! 💕 I ve run out of white vinegar..you can use it for so many things - . . Cleaning your house - you windows - your microwave - as a softener in washing machine !! A little goes a long way - . . I might even feel more inclined to clean my house more !! . . You do get that clean house smell .. but without the lung damage - the attacks on your immune system- the chances of the fumes ( as there are nt any ) putting you in hospital! . . Top Five...

…reasons I’m ecstatic I switched to a menstrual cup and I think you should make the switch,  too.

5.   I NEVER HAVE TO BUY TAMPONS OR PADS.

This first reason is pretty much a no-brainer. It’s simply a good economical choice. Ever since I made the switch, I’ve never had to buy a big box of tampons again. Or a small one. I never have to spend money on tampons or pads again. That’s more money for pinball, popcorn, and plenty more. Okay maybe not plenty, but enough. We spend way too much on these disposable products every month. A menstrual cup is one expense that lasts (with proper care) at least 5 - 10 years. Like I said, no-brainer.

4.   IT HELPS ME TO PACK LIGHT.

Since I don’t have to ever buy tampons/pads anymore, I never have to remember to pack them in my backpack. I never have to think about how many I should bring. Is three enough? Four? How many times am I going to go to the bathroom that day? I never have to ask that question anymore. Because the answer is always, “None. I have my menstrual cup.” It’s fantastic.

3.   I DON’T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT CHANGING MY TAMPON.

Before I switched, I always ended up changing my tampon almost every visit to the bathroom. But I don’t have to worry about that with a menstrual cup. And when you put it in correctly there are no leaks, whatsoever. I get a night’s sleep without worry of having created a bloody mess during the night. Not to say I didn’t leak in the beginning but I don’t worry about it anymore. I also don’t have to worry about if a tampon’s been in too long. I empty and reinsert my cup maybe once or twice a day? You can leave it in 10-12 hours a day. For the most part, I can just go on with my day like normal and barely think about it.

2.   I DON’T HATE MY MONTHLY VISITOR ANYMORE.

Okay, fine. I still hate it. It’s a big cock-block. Cunt-block? What’s the female equivalent? Anyway. I don’t find it as annoying anymore; it’s just that annoying person who just shows up, sometimes unannounced. Before I switched, “the visitor”, like most visitors, created more worries for me. Now, I just have one worry, “Do I have my cup?” And actually, it’s not even a worry, I pretty much always have it in my bag. “The visitor” shows up, and I say, “Oh, it’s you again.” And out comes the cup to go right in. I’m old enough to expect it every month, and with my cup, I’m always prepared.

1.   THERE’S NO WASTE.

Since I don’t buy tampons anymore, my trash bins aren’t filled with tampon wrappers and applicators and boxes. It was honestly always an eyesore for me. A menstrual cup = 1400 tampons. Keep trash out of the landfills and away from my vagina.

I’ve known about menstrual cups for about 5 years (at least?) but only about a year and a half ago did I finally truly fall in love with it. I guess I just always had this thought that tampons were more convenient, less gross, and for a long time, the only option. It took me a little bit of time to get the hang of inserting my menstrual cup and actually get in the habit of using it. I’m so glad I stuck with it and made the switch, and personally, my flow actually feels a bit lighter and more manageable. All I need is my cup - I use the DivaCup but am looking forward to trying the XO Flo soon - and maybe a few cloth-liners (just in case!) I can’t recommend menstrual cups enough! I love it and I hope you’ll switch and love it, too.

The other day, when it was still sunny, before the prophecy of Prince came true that “sometimes it snows in April”, I took to peeling apples in the backyard on my concrete bench. 

The apples seemed to be so juicy and irresistible, but my obligation to my troop, the Daily Troop of Girl Scouts, forbade me from indulging because it was my snack day. 

As I peeled the apples, (little girls don’t like the peel don’t you know or at least to hear my daughter tell it), I was careful to cut off that stupid little label. I give the rest of the peel to the garden worms/birds/squirrels/bugs, whichever comes first, and I want to be sure that I don't give them that infernal plastic. 

And that shit is everywhere. EVERYWHERE. Try to go plastic free. I dare you. It is virtually impossible. As a result, well I could go on and on, but you already know it. You see it.

Once, I watched this video of a sea turtle having a straw stuck up his nose. And it was really really hard to get it out and I watched every second of it. It was worse than the movie, “Happy Birthday To Me”, which I snuck into in a theater in Brooklyn to see. My dad had been taking me to see, “Death Wish II” and “Death Wish 3″. How much worse could this be than multiple gang rapes and a woman impaling herself after one of the brutal attacks by jumping out the window onto some tall freakin’ wrought iron fence posts? Pshhhhhh. It was baaad. Like people who wear scarves on motorcycles, scare the hell outta me. But the turtle clip-- was worse. 

Because it was real. It is really happening folks.

Be a part of creating ways to collect and reuse efficiently either by supporting those entities or creating them and drastically reducing your plastic consumption. It isn’t easy in the beginning, but you feel better the more you keep that toxin away from you and your loved ones.
