I hate the psychological manipulation that goes into making people believe that they are not really suffering. The long-term results of a lifetime of being told “At least it isn’t worse!” gets to this point where you could literally be beaten half to death and be thinking “Oh but I had food today so it could be worse.”
So many millennials have internalized these things to such a grand degree that the very instinct to fight back is nullified by an increasingly low concept of justice or expected quality of life. We sit half-rotten, half-starved, half-frozen, half-dead and still tell ourselves that we are fools to complain. That we are selfish, immature, greedy, sinful malcontents. It could always be worse.
That is why I think so much about the importance of revolutionary spirit, the kindling of morale which lights the path forward. This is why it is so important to move beyond the defeatist angst-filled attitudes and to actually give a shit about things. To unapologetically demand justice, demand change, or simply to demand something better.
