Rhubarb, known as the ‘fruit of Orkney’ is busy growing in the gardens of these Scottish islands. Rheum rhaponticum (common rhubarb) is a species that may have been involved in the parentage of the hybrids now used as culinary rhubarb. This plant is a large herbaceous perennial which overwinters as a low crown.

Things aren't quite right where the Frigid Floes stretch into Arcane territory. The concentration of magic here, melting out of the ice and mixing with saltwater and freezing right back in, carried on the backs of storms and warm currents, it warps the land and anything that moves. It is a volatile sort of place. Changing without will and sinking back into itself. It is a place where survival is a matter of respect or of warping oneself until no one knows where the landscape ends and you, dear traveller, once began.
This is the place where Rheum dwells.
Rheum. The unlikely shadow over the ice. The shape at the edge of your vision that never stays for introductions. The eyes that glance and track and watch but never speak.
Pray that it never does.
No one knows what Rheum is. A shadow, a ghost, a hungry mouth. You do not wish to find out. You should never wish to find out. The lurking shape just out of reach is an inevitability when you walk this place and you should never wish for it to approach. To become more than an easy boogeyman, reminding you of fragile mortality.
You should never wish for it to hunt.

Rheum is, easiest said, the apex predator of this strange ecosystem just as much as it is a horror story that keeps wanderers away or, at the very least, sticking close to their companions. Rheum does not care for the name of whatever flesh feeds it.
Expert opinion would consider it a demigod warped by magic and half-feral with it, but expert opinion is also very hard to come by, earning Rheum a thousand names and about as many tales of horror and warning. Not many venture into these lands and return. Even less do so without the fear of something seen out of the corner of their eye.
I finally have a rheumatology appointment to hopefully (doubtfully) figure out all of my joint and musculoskeletal pain that I’ve had post-chronic hives (because 8 weeks of straight full body hives suddenly decided to cause now a years straight of full body chronic pain, plus the hives are still around. so yay)
anyone have any tips for rheum? this is the one specialist that’s sooo hard to get appts for in my area so I’m nervous 😭
Q. What rare rheumatological condition is typically associated with having "ancestors along the Silk Road"?

A. Behcet's Disease is a panvasculitis most commonly (but not exclusively!) seen in individuals of Asian and Middle Eastern backgrounds, who are more likely to be carriers of the predisposing HLA-B51 allele.
Rheum ribes (Syrian rhubarb, ışgın, ribêz) near Ovacik Tunceli of Turkey. This is a very popular wild vegetable and traditional medicine in whole western Asia.
