RhodeyTony Month- Who knits the ugly sweater and who wears it with pride?
The thing is... neither of them can knit. So when Momma Rhodes sends them both ugly sweaters in MIT, they don't know what to think.
"This is... ugly. Momma never knits ugly sweaters..." Rhodey wonders what his mother was thinking.
"It's homemade! I love it!" Tony is ecstatic.
They wear them when Roberta Rhodes visits. She laughs at Tony's joy. "I made them ugly," she confides in Rhodey. "I wanted to see if Tony would meet my expectations."
"And?" Rhodey prompts.
"He exceeds them. That boy is a good match for you."
I absolutely positively completely forgot to crosspost my rhodeytony month posts from twitter SO !! If you didn’t know, this past November was RhodeyTony month and the theme was seasons of love!! So ! Without further ado I present:
RhodeyTony Seasons of Love
Week 1- Spring
Day 1 - Who tends to the garden and who isn’t allowed near plant life?
Well let’s talk about it right? I mean Tony loves loves loves gardening. It’s something his mama had taught him to do from the time he was a kid and it was one of the things he regretted not keeping up with immediately following her death. He clearly has a soft spot for doing the handiwork and Rhodey isn’t at all surprised to find a garden on the patio of their first apartment after college. Rhodey on the other hand, has killed far too many plants and by order of Mama Rhodes is no longer allowed near any plant life. Of course that’s an exaggeration but when he’s with his Mama? Well no siree he is not allowed near any of her plants. This becomes a funny moment for them because soon enough, when Rhodey is home enough after his first five-year deployment, Tony finally sits down and teaches Rhodey the basics of manning a garden. He gets it. Barely. And it’s funny because Rhodey eventually gets a tattoo of a purple dwarf iris — the flower Tony always has growing for him in their garden. As time goes on, the garden becomes a staple of who they are and how they care for each other in their relationship. And when Tony dies, Rhodey is left to care for the garden. It withers sometimes. It wavers in confidence. He shakes a lot. But he keeps the purple dwarf irises up. No matter what, his will always have those in their garden.

RhodeyTony Month- What voicemail does Rhodey leave Tony at 3am?
"Hey Tones, I know it's probably about 3am there. And I'm glad your not answering because that means you're asleep. It's lunchtime here, and I was just thinking of you. I miss you, love.
Today there was a kid who was brought into camp with her parents, not sure why. She reminded me of you. One look at my helmet, and she was taking it apart to fix it. My uniform helmet, not the suit - don't get all huffy and jealous like I know you were. She reminded me of you, though. I couldn't talk to her because all she spoke was Farsi and I only know English. I really need to take some lessons, huh.
Anyways, just wanted to call and check in. I'm going on a four day rotation so I won't be contactable... well, not contactable for most people. Don't swing your weight unless it's an emergency. You know you always come first.
Heh. I'm just sitting at the table here, looking like I'm talking to myself. These earbuds work wonders, thank you for them. But I'm getting a lot of weird stares.
Anywhoo, just want to say I love you, and I can't stop dreaming about you. I hope we can talk soon. I love you, Tones. See ya."
Click. Tony sets his phone down. Only two more weeks til Rhodey comes home!
RhodeyTony Month- Who Screams First at the Haunted House?
Here's the thing - Rhodey hates haunted houses. They're the perfect place for monsters to hide out and kill. It's not his fault that he's seen every single damn episode of Supernatural, is it, now, Tony?
However, Tony is the typical white boy who loves Halloween. He watches onky horror movies the whole month of October. He can even memorize some, word for word. When Tony drags him to a haunted house like he does every damn year, Rhodey just gives in. But he will. Not. Be the first one to scream. He made a decision and he will not be going back on this. (Of course, he doesn't tell Tony because he knows Tony will do his best to scare Rhodey.)
They walk into the haunted house. A man rushes at them with a chainsaw. Rhodey jumps minutely, and Tony laughs at the man. "That's a little lame. A chainsaw? Get more original." A woman in a low-cut wedding dress tries to lure them into a corner. Rhodey isn't sure that she's fake, and Tony points to Rhodey. "Sorry. Gay." It goes like this all throughout the house. Rhodey is decidedly freaked out, but he does not scream. Almost at the end, Tony says, "I thought you'd be screaming by now." Rhodey only smiles.
At the very end of the house, they walk through a dark room. Before their eyes adjust to the darkness, Rhodey lets out an evil laugh and shoves his fingers up Tony's shirt. Tony lets out an earsplitting scream and runs to the door. Once out, Rhodey doubles over in laughter.
"I hate you." Tony grumbles, then brightens. "Does that mean you like Halloween now?"
What flower reminds Tony of Rhodey?
Gladiolus flowers.
Fun fact - Gladiolus flowers were used by the Romans to crown the winning gladiator. They grow up and around a large stalk, often brightly colored.
Rhodey always wanted to be an Airman, a warrior. The flowers represent strength, something of which Rhodey always has plenty. The straight spine of the plant represents Rhodey’s military stance. The bright colors show how Tony feels anytime he's around Rhodey.
He makes sure to plant some in his greenhouse for Rhodey
RhodeyTony Month- Who pulls the other back into bed for a lazy day?
Rhodey does. Tony can't stand lying in bed for no reason. So the days he does get a good night's sleep, he's getting out of bed as soon as he wakes up. Rhodey, in spite of his military training, loves to sleep in.
Tony will be waking up and rolling out of bed, when Rhodey grabs his arm. "No stay." His voice is muffled by the pillow. "You're warrrmmm..."
"But my project..." Tony begins.
Rhodey lifts his head and looks at Tony with his eyes wide. Tony melts. "Ok honey. I'll get back in bed."
