If you think about it
Mori knowing Tachihara was working for the government wasn't random
BSD Ōgai Mori is smart, even if he's not shown as genius as Ranpo or Dazai even if Mori actually surprised Dazai with the whole plan behind Dazai Dark Era Light Novel and also the Q being free thing
But he's also military experienced, both the character and the real life author being like "military doctor in charge of a lot of people and the highest rank possible in that aspect who was trained to be able to deal with patients who could attack him by accident" kind of way... But also, he has seen a lot of soldiers, treated with many people, from Japan, France and Germany, samurais who committed suicide willingly in a ritual named sepukku (if BSD even keeps parts of the real author's important situations in life that lead him write many things and change his writing style)
The real life author was observant, graduated early, and even used a military technique to get better at socialising with people... And BSD Mori sounds pretty similar to those Mori-facts even if they made him similar to Real Life Natsume Soseki in behaviour because that Yosano background? It feels more like Natsume's family traumas and opposite Mori's own kids' experience with their dad, thanks to Mori BL genre exists through Mari Mori being sad of her dad's death🕴🏻
But back to my point— Ōgai knowing about Tachihara being part of the military could be a mix of past experience and observation. BSD Mori's intelligence for me appears to understanding people's minds, personalities and how they'll react even if he doesn't understand the reason why behind everything or why even question "not logical reasons". Even when his thoughts are shown in his own point of view or from an outsider, the focus is Mori's logic rather than Mori's emotions
Vita Sexualis, the book, doesn't only narrate the protagonist's life and traumas from when he's 6 years old to +20 years old... But about him trying to understand the world he lives in, him being different from his society, him processing stuff differently in comparison to others... And not understanding people's emotions. He stayed with the logic, logic made him become successful, logic made him understand people's reactions, but not make him relate to what people think, feel and say, but understand the pattern, and at least the real life author was obsessed with patterns so badly 💀
He was successful as a military doctor, he's successful as a Boss, but after seeing people's behaviours... After spending many years in the military, he knows how people there most likely behave. After spending so much time with criminals, he knows how people in the mafia will most likely behave
There had to be a pattern that Tachihara followed as a military soldier, because military genuinely changes you and teaches you things. There are some behaviours that you can't... Just stop doing
My dad was a military soldier, he knows people in his same circumstances. Some left with traumas, some stand or walk in specific ways. My dad? Is unable to have his hair growing a lot because the military service make him have the "instinct" of keep his hair extremely short. Ah yeah and sometimes react instinctively in "military defense positions" (he explained it to me like that) because he can't take it out of himself
It's not only "Oh Mori is a genius", but "Mori observes everyone and pays attention to everyone", even to Black Lizard. He had to observe Tachihara
But that's a thought
