I've kind of been thinking about writing a backstory for the Barbie in a Mermaid Tale movies, like for Queen Calissa, Eris, and Rip Summers. I have a couple ideas, but I'm not sure which one to go with

A regular backstory on how Calissa and Rip met and fell in love, as well as Calissa's falling out with Eris

Merliah somehow travels back in time and meets her father, Rip, before he died

What do you guys think?

This is how I imagined Rip Summers, the husband of Queen Calissa and the father of Merliah Summers, before he died

What is rip summer's favorite horror movie. Or does he like them at all

My real, true, honest-to-god instinct is to say Rocky Horror LMAO

Facts:

Break says that Rip died about a year before Merliah was brought to him

Calissa says she has been locked up for 15 years

Merliah is 16 in the movie

Break also says that Rip didn’t know Calissa was pregnant... but Calissa would have been about to give birth when Rip died. So either Rip and Calissa weren’t in regular contact (unlikely, if they were in a relationship), or Break’s making an assumption because Rip didn’t tell him about it, and he told him about everything else (even if Break didn’t believe it at the time).

Merliah’s age is pretty concrete bc that’s when mermaids come of age. Granted, that information does come from a website that Hadley looked up, but given that everything else lined up, I doubt they’d be off on the age and nothing else.

Calissa could be off about how long she has been imprisoned, but Eris seems like the type to rub it in her face how long she’s been in there so it’s unlikely that she’s wrong.

But the point is, however you look at the canon information, there seems to be an entire year of Merliah’s life that’s unaccounted for, before she came to Break. And that seems to very conveniently line up with Rip’s “death.” So while “Rip faked his death” may seem like a huge leap, it actually takes care of several points that don’t add up, including where Merliah spent her first year, bc logically it should not have been with Calissa, if she was Queen (and therefore under public scrutiny) and if it’s as dangerous for her as she says (the mermaids seem to accept Merliah readily enough at the end of the movie, so she may have been speaking about Eris and her growing concern there; or they only like Merliah, specifically, bc she saved them and they know her).
