We all know Hakoda approves of Zuko. But what about Gran Gran? Katara or Sokka brings their boyfriend home to meet their grandma, and she is both horrified and not happy. Imagine how much Zuko has to make it up to her because the first and only impression he made on her was not good in slightest. Imagine Zuko trying so hard to win this woman's approval.

Meanwhile Hakoda has to stand on the sidelines because he knows theres no talking to his mom when she has made up her mind. Even Pakku is sitting there like. "He's on his own, she may have married me but that doesn't mean I'm not on thin ice."

perhaps a suggestion for introducing airbenders in accidental guard zuko: detective li is looking into the mysterious death and finds himself confronted w airbenders and they deem him the One (1) good egg in ba sing se, and let him live. lee returns to the station and reports the most BORING case he'd ever worked and the police force are like?? okay?? finally???

So this is how that would go:

Zuko: Saves some airbender, realizes they are airbender

Some Airbender: Sincere gratitude for the save and you realize the life of my people is in your hands now right?

Zuko: Has learned Life Lessons on this case and swears not to tell, understands completely the need for secrecy when the world wants you dead

Some Airbender: More gratitude, let us part ways, I will never forget you and my people will tell stories of you

Zuko: Parts ways

Zuko: Starts feeling... a little goofy?

Zuko: Does not live in a world where (most) people recognize the signs of oxygen-but-nothing-else being stripped from the air

Zuko: Unconscious

Some Airbender: Apologizes to unconscious Zuko, then slits his throat and takes his purse to make it look like a routine mugging, smart airbenders do not leave mysterious corpses behind

Some Airbender: Donates Zuko's money to an orphanage or something, tosses purse in trash

Some Airbender: Goes home and tells people of this young fire-blooded person who helped them, and fought for them, and who learned the truth

Other Airbenders: Have honorary funeral for this young man, and help Some Airbender with their grief.

Some Airbender: Was not saying "the life of my people is in your hands" as an explanation, but as an apology

Zuko: Did not understand

Everyone Who Knew Zuko: Don't believe for a single second that a common mugger took out this kid.

Everyone Who Knew Zuko: But "an air nomad survivor" doesn't appear anywhere on their suspect list
