          “ you okay? ”   question came laced with concern once they were alone, after she’d pulled away from an embrace with her sister. she had waited to do that until after they had gotten away from everyone else. seeing those from alexandria walk through that gate, seeing charlotte and daryl, she had initially been hurrying over with every intention of hugging the both of them, greeting them how she wanted to. but when it had dawned on her that there were some missing from the group, when daryl had told her about carl... it had almost seemed like it would have been wrong or insensitive to do it right there and then in front of everyone else.  “ the saviors... they took alexandria too? ”

   His side burned, like a white hot knife digging deeper with every move and breath; the offending wound seemed to bulge beneath his shirt and his thoughts were never far from it. Between those interruptions, though, were thoughts of his family, and how they would react to the secret he was holding — guarding until a better time to reveal. Would there be a better time? Or would he die before then? Would they? 

   Wiping beads of sweat from his brow, he descended the stairs of their home in Alexandria, approaching the kitchen and the woman he’d grown so close to. “ Michonne? ”

          for the second time now since the battle, things seemed to be settling down some for the night, at least, she hoped... ------- the first time around, they hadn’t been prepared for what crept up on them during the night... what turned out to be members of their own having turned. her mind was reeling after it all, after seeing what had become of those who had been wounded, including tobin, who she had only just earlier expressed her remorse for how she had treated him. one thing she couldn’t help but think was that, maybe what she had said to him before was right. that maybe the fight would just never end. if it wasn’t this, it would be something else... ------ and she had been fighting a battle long before the world changed this way. 

          looking up when michonne entered the room she had found herself in, deep breath was taken in, very small smile offered in ways of a greeting. she’d come here to just try and clear her mind if she could.  “ how are you holding up? ”

SMILE GROWS wide across his face, nearly reaching his eyes as he lets out a soft chuckle, “Never said I was complainin’,” Rick adds as he approaches her, eyes comfortably taking her in. Beautiful. “Only problem is,” head tilts, fond gaze meeting hers as a hand settles gently on her side, “-- you look a HELL of a lot better in that than I do,” he adds, hand sliding around to her lower back as Rick leans in to press his lips against hers tenderly.

IT’S A BLUNT DELIVERY but he wouldn’t expect much less from Daryl -- he appreciates it. Rick knows he’s far from fine, that he’s been spiraling, and he’s becoming more aware of that. “I don’t want anyone else gettin’ hurt,” he starts, dropping his head and gaze somewhat. He feels foolish for letting things go the way that they have -- for FALLING APART and putting the rest of the people he cares about at risk because of it. Of course, he’s only human and everyone deals with grief (and guilt) differently, but Daryl’s right, he needs to ask for help. As hard as it is for the leader to admit or even reach out for, it’s what’s right and ultimately, all he wants is to keep everyone safe. “Maybe I could take a small step BACK,” he concedes, eyes reaching his friend’s again, “-- focus on my kids, on myself for a while. You’re right...I should be able t’lean on you all more, and maybe I should TRY t’do that.”

HE LAUGHS initially, a breathy (nervous) kind of laugh as she pokes at him. “-- I really don’t know what you’re talkin’ about,” he adds with a shake of his head, eyes only crossing the room briefly before returning to Michonne. Rick’s not even entirely AWARE of what’s drawing him to Jessie -- it feels almost reflexive somehow, like she’s someone more familiar in a sense, but he wouldn’t admit that to himself. There’s a little embarrassment that he’s done anything to warrant Michonne catching on -- NOT that there’s anything going on.

         the first rule  about going on runs was to keep quiet.  especially when in unfamiliar territory.  and if you think you hear something, don’t be so loud.  he puts his finger to his lips to silence her, trying to tune in to what it is that could be making the sound.  but then it appeared in front of them, as a can was knocked over and the raccoon scurried past them and out of the building.  letting out a breath, he turned to her.  ❛ think we’re clear.  be careful though, don’t go too far.  y’stay near me. ❜  he knows its her first run, she doesn’t have as much experience on the field, but it should’ve been basic instinct.  he’s not mad at her though, they’re just lucky it wasn’t something dangerous.

          an apologetic look had been sent his way when he signaled for her to be quiet ---- it had not been her intention to be so loud, she hadn’t even realised that she had been. but when it appeared to just be a raccoon, she let out a breath that she had practically been holding, feeling relief knowing that she hadn’t gotten them into any sort of trouble, for now at least.  “ wasn’t planning on wandering off. ”  she added, giving a brief shake of her head to accompany her assurance. it was her first proper run out, not being out with the entire group, and she knew daryl had more experience... she wasn’t planning on going off without him, she knew that he knew best.
