Random rp character question time! What's something your character(s) think they're good at but are actually quite bad at?
This is a fun questions, so I’m going to answer for all three main characters:
Solenne doesn’t necessarily think she’s a good cook, but she thinks she’s adequate, at least. She’s not. At all. Her fiance had to take matters into his own hands and hire a cook for her. Narumi (the cook) might look small and demure, but she’s former yakuza and she passionately defends her kitchen with a sushi knife every time Sol sets foot in it. The list of people who scare Sol is very short, but Narumi is on it.
Michaux is humble to a fault, and so he’s much more likely to discount his skills than exaggerate them. Still, he puts slightly more faith in his knowledge of Gelmorran history and culture than he should, considering how much of his knowledge came from oral tradition passed down through his family line. He’s not yet aware of the degree to which bias influenced the narrative he was taught, nor of how his family’s position of privilege in Gelmorran society narrowed their perspective. Fortunately, the ‘cousin’ he’s just become acquainted with will probably be more than willing to set him straight.
Yves is pretty well acquainted with his strengths and weaknesses. He should be after all this time. But he goes through regular cycles of intimacy and isolation, and it’s during the latter periods that he starts to lose some perspective. He’ll start by surrounding himself with a few friends and lovers, but after losing them one by one, he’ll spend the next few decades refusing to get close to anyone. While in isolation, he fools himself into thinking that he’s happiest when he’s alone. That he is, if you will, good at being alone. But he always gets lonely eventually, and little by little, he starts opening himself up to love and friendship again. (Incidentally, that’s where he is in the cycle right now.)
