“ Zodiacs... Great. ”

Quite admittedly, Jeongguk had enough of this. If not for Iny dragging him along into this eval he may have honestly skipped out of them completely and waited for KT to kick him out this month. However the bubbly female pulled him along, shared her enthusiasm with him in ways that left Jeongguk to wonder where she took all her positive energy from. It was nice and refreshing and it gave him a reason to stay. The fact she had started talking to Sia again as well helped give him reason to stay in the company.

In his blind grumpiness and the huge grudge he held against this company, Jeongguk had also forgotten how unprofessional getting kicked from KT may make him seem towards the rest of the industry. If he was looking to get back into photography once his contract ran up, he'd have to keep a look out for his image and the potential influence the samsung company could have on his likeliness of getting jobs. So his only option would have to be a clean buy out or wait until this shitshow was over.

With Jimin moving to Sphere as well there was so little left holding him here that he had his papers collected and his account balances checked to see if the investment would be worth. Buying his freedom in exchange for giving KT yet more money? Somehow that in itself seemed wrong as well. He could hang on, cash in the extra bills given to him, continue to deliver just above average to keep himself secured. Using the facility to indulge in his curiosity and desire to perform and expand his creativity as well as shape up his body further; he'd milk this company for all its worth and then rip any renewal he would be offered to shreds.

That sounded like a much better plan to have, really.

So with his mind sorted he'd gone into this eval, actually wanting to do something great with the female that had come up with a fabulous idea for their eval. Both of them had the same zodiac, a fact Jeongguk had never known nor was he interested in it. Trades associated with his sign could match him or not, he simply had no interest in them beyond the aesthetics and the beautiful art people made based on this theme. Choosing an eclipse song seemed both appropriate and was perhaps a long shot but to show they could perform it, transform it into their own and actually make it work with their 'trades' as well? A high gamble which could bring them major success. He left the explaining to Iny, knowing she'd be a lot more well-versed in the subject and definitely more capable of presenting them better than Jeongguk could. He merely stood beside her to smile, look handsome and give her more creditability merely by how convinced he looked about all of what she was telling the panel.

A mic in hand the performance itself was easy. To hit the notes, hit the harmonies and go was his only challenge for this one. Honestly with how happy he sounded and how chipper he seemed, one could seriously consider him one hell of a fabulous actor at this point. Quite honestly- he somewhat enjoyed the thought of living to fool them into thinking he was actually enthusiastic about this whole bullshit. Let the carnival begin.

gray ruffled through his hair and leaned back in his seat. it was just a tiny detail that might seem meaningless for outsiders, but for someone as perfectionistic as him, it wasn’t at all. most of the time, he had no problem to come to a fast decision regarding that, but in some special cases, he would spend hours in polishing a small piece of his song. and in this case, there were just too many options to chose from. grumbling, he let his eyes wander from one window to the other, re-playing all pieces over and over again, before he came to the conclusion that he was in dire need of an objective opinion.

but, when he looked out of one of the recording rooms in the company building, and stared into the empty halls, he noticed how late it already was. most of his fellow trainees probably went back home already. with a sigh, he was about to get his stuff and return to his home studio to finish the song there, when he heard steps closeby. turning around he saw nayeon walking down the hallways. with a smile, he approached her quickly. she was a trainee he didn’t interacted with a lot yet, but she seemed like a nice and friendly girl. maybe she would agree to help him out.

“good evening, nayeon! uh, could i ask for your objective opinion quickly? it’s about a song i am working on right now... i can’t decide between the final drafts.”

❛ growth spurt

quite recently he had started to notice that he was getting quite a bit taller. not that he had actually measured himself, but he was starting to notice a couple of things. for starters he felt the sleeves of his jumper were getting a litter shorter than usual, and just standing there people started to seem... shorter. 

right then he was standing there in front of one of the practice mirrors in an empty practice room, simply tilting his head and frowning at his own reflection. in this particular room, there was a scratch on one of the mirrors, not a massive one but enough that he had noticed it during one of their practices. he’d noted that the top of the scratch was about the same height as the top of his reflection when he was standing right in front of the mirror. but, now he was standing there, his reflection seemed to have grown. 

hearing the door open behind him, haruto didn’t even turn around, but his eyes moved to try and see in the mirror who had just come in. “do i look taller?” he suddenly questioned, not even thinking of whether she would actually know the answer or not.

「 guilt & worry 」

it was done. he had signed the papers, there was no going back-- when he had first gotten the offer he wasn't entirely sure what to do. it was like his entire trainee period went through his mind-- especially this last month. in the end, he had accepted the offer and signed the papers. one thing he had come to realize in his time as a trainee was that this was the goal of every trainee, yet he hadn't really put any serious thought into it... not until the month of january.

jaehyun had wondered if he had made the right choice-- he knew he couldn't go back and change things, he had already signed the papers. sphere had given him a chance-- kt hadn't, that was his conclusion. 

he made sure to get all the things that he had laying around, then he left the kt building-- as quietly as he could. he went to the cafe that was across the street and sat there for a little, ordering an americano. he looked at the kt building-- the brunet wasn't one to get sentimental about things but something about this situation felt incredibly bittersweet.

in kt unexpected things had happened, there were people that he had gotten close to, it wasn't something he expected but he welcomed it.

despite that, the month of january had brought on many different thoughts for him, two of the biggest and recurring thoughts were jiwon's ( @rkjiwvn​ ) leave and also being excluded from the other hyungs. it was a wake up call for him, jiwon couldn't always be there ( even if he wanted her to be ), and the hyungs that had been in kt for years already-- was he really good enough to take a spot from any of them? no, he had wished to be able to catch up to them-- that was his initial desire-- a part of him still wanted to do just that.

instead, jaehyun had accepted the offer from sphere, to join convex as a lead singer. he couldn't share it with anyone, no one to celebrate with. even if he could-- would the others celebrate it with him? he was now... debuting before them.

while sitting there at the cafe he brought up his phone, to send a couple of text messages. the first message he sent was to taemin ( @taeminrk​ ), how would he explain that he wouldn't be in kt anymore? would the older blame himself? jaehyun hoped not-- would taemin hate him when the news comes out? jaehyun shook his head, it wasn't something he wanted to think about. he finished typing up the rest of the texts, it wasn't many-- he didn't have all the phone numbers saved but it was enough.

jaehyun had gotten an offer to debut-- this way, he wouldn't take any of the spots that were held by the older trainees if by chance he had gotten a chance to be picked to debut in kt. this way, the older trainees would get the chance to debut together and they would stand on stage together-- this way.... he would be able to stand on the same stage as them in the future.

there was a wave of anxiety that came over him regardless-- what if no one in convex wanted him there? what would he do? he would have to prevail regardless.

while sitting there he thought about nayeon ( @rkiny​ ) what would she say when she learns, the beach had been his idea-- he hadn't been able to share anything with her, none of these thoughts. then sphere had come in today. he couldn't and wouldn't tell her.

while looking at the kt building realization starts to hit him, he is going to a new place, a new company-- a new team, for a moment he thinks about who he knows in sphere but not one face pops up. then he remembered when he first went to kt, he didn't know anyone then either.. only jiwon but he had managed to get close to some of the other trainees regardless. this would be a fresh start for him.

sitting there he wondered, would anyone know him? sure he had been a public figure-- in the newspaper multiple times in the past for his career in sports and his accomplishments but that was over a year ago and now, he was basically a no one. not for long-- he'd join an already debuted team, that had popularity and he would again be in the eye of the public.

before the anxiety and the thoughts overcame him, jaehyun finished his coffee and sent the last text. regardless of everything, he was filled with determination.

wit’s end

after the unsuccessful attempt yesterday he had gone back to his aunt’s empty-handed, only for her to nag his ear off  --  something along the lines of if he didn’t bring something back she’d have to bring in the real deal and something about the way she had said it with the eery look in her eyes had spooked him into taking it seriously. though, as much as he had been determined to do so, the moment he got to the flea market the next day, all determination and will had disappeared as he stared in agony at the racks upon racks of clothes that had little to no appeal to him.

this was why he disliked shopping, it was both tedious and time-consuming. not that his time was precious, or anything like that, he just didn’t like seeing it go to waste on something he didn’t think was of his concern. such as how he looked. he had never really cared  --  and sure, maybe his looks weren’t something to scoff at but the act of improving what was already ... somewhat decent was lost to him.

couldn’t someone just come and save him? why did his aunt even trust him to do all this by himself?

it’s why, with less initiative and more nonchalance ; he taps the shoulder of a stranger nearby and with his most exasperated, if not desperate, voice he could muster  -- he pleads, “excuse me, do you think you could pick some clothes out for me? i don’t really know what looks good  -- and,” he sighs, cringing at his words. “i’m just so tired of looking at clothes.” 

he blinks once more, as if that single motion could communicate his desperation for help. “please.”

yesterday’s ghosts.

meeting her the first time had been like being thrown back in time. he hadn’t been much brighter then, certainly not much happier, but the girl he had known in his teenage years had brought a certain light into his life. it was all coincidence, joining the company at the same time back then, but good luck had been on their side until it wasn’t. nayeon isn’t the same girl, but in looks and mannerisms sometimes sungho still gets confused. he doesn’t love her, not like he had loved the ghost in his past, but instinct tells him to protect her, shelter her, save her from what had ruined both the other girl and himself in the distant past.

and sometimes, that instinct makes him a little overprotective.

the halls aren’t crowded, not like a school between periods, but there’s a decent amount of movement between different lessons. sungho witnesses the transgression from a distance; the male trainee is much larger, seems so much more aggressive next to nayeon and her lithe form and eternally sunshiny disposition. it could have been an accident, but sungho’s angle leads him to believe otherwise. the way the other trainee shoulders his way past the girl.. it’s rude, at the very least.

“hey,” he walks toward the trainee with a purpose, his vision turning red at the corners despite the cast still on his arm. he knows he can’t throw a punch, at least not with his dominant hand, but he can puff himself up to look a little bigger than his small stature would normally allow. “what the fuck was that? you think you’re tough shit for shoving a girl around?”
