Growing up in a suburban home with two rather wealthy parents, it was a challenge to live in the spotlight. Barkin’s mother was a socialite. She made money solely off of her ability to coerce people into making decisions and convincing them she deserved a profit for the idea. Barkin’s father was a lawyer who seldom was home. The man traveled for his firm and usually brought another woman home preceding each episode of leaving. Sometimes the women were clients, other times they were people he’d met at the local drag. It wasn’t strange for Barkin’s mother, Constance, to feel suppressed by the other beauties that slept with her husband. Sometimes it appeared like his parents were in a far greater competition than they were in a wedded union. Despite their marriage struggles, they insisted their son take on a profession that would overthrow their own decisions and ultimately benefit him for the rest of his life. His father concluded the best approach was to send their son to medical school after he graduated high school. Barkin’s choice of lifestyle was laid out for him - but he was the valedictorian. It couldn’t be that bad, right?

Medical school came with its perks. He was coined the name “The Dicktator” by his classmates because of his unusually cantankerous, vindictive attitude towards the rest of his class. Most commonly, he found a sick interest in children. Barkin made it a goal to find all the women on campus that had children or access to them. Babysitters, new mothers, old mothers, women that were currently pregnant, those with younger siblings, etcetera. Once he picked a person to prey on, he wiggled his way into their lives like a parasite. Slowly, after the many years he spent with his grades and marks the highest against all the others, fifteen children died. Each were kidnapped, purposely taken to a specific location far from the campus, watchful eyes, and anyone that might be witty at searching for a license plate. In that specific location, Barkin committed heinous crimes, decapitating, mutilating, and dissecting the children. Some speculated there may have been sexual allegations. When the police were informed of the missing children, they could not be found anywhere. Traces of them didn’t exist. Parents had lost all hope. Pleas to return the children to their homes scattered the media. Hefty sums were even presented, but no evidence came about... 

BUT THIS IS REALLY HAPPENING

Barkin was lucky to never be investigated. He went back to his old ways and become more focused on med school than ever before. He grieved with his friends that had lost their children, family members, and aquaintances. He attended wakes and activities that mourned the families and asked for any information to come forward - he blended perfectly. After med school, Barkin took up his residency at Warren State Hospital in Pennsylvania. There he would kidnap children from around the small, surrounding towns and continue to abuse, neglect, torture, and murder them. By the time his count was fifteen, he worried the police were too close to his tail. Talk around the town was getting too close to the answer he desperately wanted to hide. Barkin put out applications, frantic to leave the small towns behind and find another location to begin his next killing. The children’s bodies were properly disposed of in Allegheny National Forest where he buried them all in different locations near Kinzua Dam. One application in particular stood out to Barkin - Doctor Wright’s facility in Utah. Far enough on the west coast he might be able to escape the reputation he’d made in Pennsylvania and it incorporated children - right at his fingertips. Frightening in all ways because he would be under the noses of officials to keep himself from getting caught, but brilliant because he would be in a position of trust. Having only just been taken on by Robert, Barkin was looking incredibly promising - something which Robert was willing to take a risk on, whisking him away to Oregon with the rest of his team.

DANA FELLOWS is a 26 year old MUSIC THERAPIST with undiagnosed PTSD and BIPOLAR DISORDER at Brielle Institute and looks a lot like Hayden Panettiere.

MAYBE THEY’RE HIDING

Dana never had the love that most children did… A father who was not in the picture and a mother who was mentally unwell, Dana was a shadow of what she should have been. The girl had the capability and strength to do whatever she wanted, which certainly showed as she pulled herself through elementary school and found a passion in music when she hit junior year. Receiving the praise from her music teacher, Dana found a level of comfortability – she wasn’t the happiest or brightest of teenagers in any other subject, but music… It gave her something to look forward to and something to smile about until the bells rang and she knew she had to go back home and face the horrors. Evenings of being beaten, nights of being kept awake all night and days off of school spent alone locked in her bedroom… The unfortunate thing for Dana was that music class didn’t last forever and neither did school. Unable to afford college or get a scholarship, the brunette was left with the only thing she knew what to do… Perform.

Her evenings went from being abused by her mother, to performing in local bars and busking on the side walk but the public didn’t recognise true talent when they saw it… Nobody could admire what Dana had taught herself in the space of a few years – she had a vocal range that was incredibly rare and could master over seven different instruments but nobody had any concern for it. Sitting in the corner of a bar on a stool, whilst nobody listened to you became tiring and unfortunately wasn’t enough to cover the rent either. And so, Dana took on a job that made her feel slightly better about her sad life. A facility under the name of infamous Doctor Robert Wright – where people were less stable than Dane herself… In all honesty, seeing other miserable patients made her feel better about the shit she had been through. Whilst she hadn’t had the childhood she wanted, she was glad that she didn’t have to spend it in a place like this. That was the wrong attitude to have, however. Due to her undiagnosed PTSD and Bipolar Disorder, the patients were receiving improper care and Dana’s disorders worsened…

BUT THIS IS REALLY HAPPENING

Snapping between friendly, sincere and sweet to pessimistic, standoff-ish and grumpy, Dana become one of the worst staff members in the hospital. Of course, she couldn’t help it but Robert should have recognised that she needed help and instead expected her to continue, to set a good example to the patients she spoke to everyday. Dana, however, was in denial and refused to admit to the fact that she needed some form of care. It wasn’t that she didn’t want the help, she just didn’t want to admit to suffering. She had gotten through the past 26 years of her life, so what was another year? She could do this on her own. Due to flipping between different moods, patients were often than not disregarded and left without therapy sessions… or if they did show up, then Dana would spend the entire hour wallowing in her own self-pity. Despite not having the best relationship with Doctor Wright, Dana Fellows begged that she was allowed to travel to Brielle with him, as she had nothing else going for her. Music was the only thing that mattered to her and although at times, she could be an awful therapist, she could also be amazing and share her passions with the patients that she came across. Telling her to pluck her ideas up and being given a final opportunity, Dana hopped on the bus without a hesitation. But will a second chance be enough to turn herself around?

HARRY CALDWELL is a 35 year old HEAD SECURITY GUARD at Brielle Institute and looks a lot like Tom Hardy.

Harry had always been a loved child… Just not deeply loved by the people it should have been. Born to two teenagers who weren’t ever capable of looking after him, it was set in stone for him to go and live with his grandparents just months after his birth. Harry’s father was too busy pursuing his unrealistic dreams of being in a band and touring the world, whereas his mother was somebody who valued her social life far too much. And unfortunately, that was what Harry was – the product of a one night stand. With the hopes of making parenthood work for their son, grandma and grandpa Caldwell were very active and influential throughout the pregnancy; arranging visits and going to appointments with the girl who seemingly had no family life herself… Little did they know that she was continuing to harm her body and her baby with narcotics. Suffering from post-natal depression and deciding that she was in need of a weekend out, Harry’s mother had never returned. Searches were sent out – pictures published everywhere, but she didn’t want to be found…

So, with a mother who had disappeared and a father who was never around, it became the responsibility of Harry’s grandparents to raise him. Perhaps that was why his upbringing was a little stricter than your usual kid… They were much older, times were different when they were growing up. They didn’t want Harry to throw his life away, much like their own son did, who visited every once in a while, but never stuck around for long enough to get to know his son… The odd lunch trip to the ice cream parlour and a toy thrown at him twice a year didn’t strike well within Harry who was approaching his teenage years… Harry was growing up to be a gentleman and both of his sleazebag parents were missing out on it. The only possible reason he could think of for his dad running around was mental health issues… Taking the values that his grandparents had taught him and using the motive of dealing with people just like his father, Harry went for a local internship that was in the city he lived in at the age of nineteen…

Years had passed and the Caldwell’s beloved grandson was still living at home, only he had reached an age where they could no longer tell him what to do… Not that they needed to, because he had grown up to be quite the responsible adult. Harry knew how to financially support himself, he knew etiquette and if anything, he knew discipline. Becoming a security guard was almost destiny for Harry Caldwell and with his internship, he could finally pursue the job that he wanted. At the age of twenty five, Harry had started his first official job as a security guard – working under the well known, Doctor Robert Wright. Ten solid years the man had invested into a young Mr. Caldwell and there was potential. Harry had become Doctor Wright’s most trustworthy guard – he understood Robert’s principals of ‘no bullshit’ and misbehaviour would be treated with justice. Deep down, Harry had a heart but he could very quickly switch to his disciplinary self. When Doctor Robert Wright took Brielle Institute and claimed it as his own, he knew that there was no other fit for Head of Security, other than Harry Caldwell.

BECCA WRIGHT is a 21 year old TUTOR at Brielle Institute and looks a lot like Lili Reinhart.

Being born under a big name gave Becca Wright a head start in life. Able to go to private school where all of the other kids with money went gave Rebecca a reputation that not many other children in her neighbourhood had… It wasn’t her parents with the money after all, it was her grandfather; Doctor Robert Wright – owner of one of the most prestigious hospitals in her hometown. The blonde hadn’t been bought with her grandfather’s money, but his love and whilst Robert could be a cold-hearted bastard at times, nobody could take away the love that he felt for his granddaughter. Being the eldest out of the grandchildren gave her an edge that nobody else had; she was presented with the opportunities first, she was treated to day trips out and she was taught the lessons of love.

Thanks to Robert, Rebecca had grown up to be an astonishing young lady. She was prim, polite and an absolute sweetheart. She didn’t know what it was like to have a bad bone in her body but unfortunately, that was where Doctor Wright went wrong… Becca had always wanted to go into teaching – whether that be elementary school, high school, college level… Younger children was her preference but despite having the world handed to her, she could never be too picky. Work experience was a big thing in her senior year. To get into a good college, you had to have work experience from a professional and so, Robert granted Rebecca with a temporary job at his institute – and she found her calling. Being not only a mentor – but a friend – to several children who were too ill to have real friends became a desire to Rebecca… She had found her passion.

BUT THIS IS REALLY HAPPENING

Even despite having a tough couple of weeks at work experience, she still had no bad bones in her body… There was no bad blood, no bad feelings – nothing but love. Rebecca decided that once she finished school, she didn’t want to go to college anymore, she wanted to continue working for her grandfather with the children that she had met at the institute and Robert let her, without the qualification. Becca was the best out of a bad bunch, honestly. She was still the sweetheart that she had always been and there she was, working amongst crowds of corrupt staff members that only cared about their money, their reputation and themselves… But their Rebecca was – the angel of the institute; the person who bettered the institute and Doctor Robert’s legacy of lies. Unknown to her, Rebecca is one of the only genuine staff members who followed her grandfather to Brielle Institute – but will all of the other staff members begin to influence her or will she settle in with those already working at Brielle?

DYLAN GALE is a 24 year old SECURITY GUARD at Brielle Institute and looks a lot like Tyler Blackburn.

Dylan Gale was destined for a bright start from day one. An only child with two loving parents meant that he had the best upbringing that he could have done – a great education, raised to be a gentleman, handed everything he ever wanted. Some may have argued that Dylan was spoiled but he would ignore them – a lion did not concern themselves with the opinions of sheep. Having a family full of money meant that Dylan was able to have all of the technology. A new phone? Great. The latest game console came out? Better. But it was never enough… Dylan didn’t want the materialistic objects that every child had – he wanted to explore technology further. He wanted to test the boundaries and push the limits; looking into how it was all built, how people put each little piece together.

It started with seeing if he could build his own computer, which to no surprise, was a success… But Dylan was growing more infatuated with the different things he could use technology for. He could fit phones with bugs, he could install applications to phones and computers which gave him access to their cameras, he was learning how to put a tracker in phones and he was learning how to hack into these devices. It wasn’t in spite of anybody – it was purely down to fascination and because he had the money to do it… Whilst Dylan held the capability of fitting in like a normal teenager – drinking, going out and socialising, flirting – he had his own secrets behind closed doors. Knowing that he was the one with money in his friendship group, he started to become intrigued with what his friends could have been saying behind his back. Taking what he had taught himself and fitting his friend’s devices with all the equipment he needed to find out if they were spreading any rumours about him.

His instincts were right and his friends weren’t half as loyal as he thought they were… In fact, they found out exactly what Dylan had been doing which only caused more of a vicious circle. The rumours were spreading around his school and the game of Chinese whispers happened to catch the ears of one person in particular – Becca Wright – granddaughter to Doctor Robert Wright who was in charge of one of the most renown asylums in the country… He had been brainstorming ideas, looking to modernise his institution and Becca knew the perfect person who was a few years older than her in school; Dylan Gale. As somebody who was used installing spyware gear onto his friends’ phones, what could he do with the patients of an institute that were allowed their own mobile phones? Starting off on an internship as one of Doctor Wright’s most valuable assets to his company, Dylan Gale became one of the best guards to grace Robert’s presence. With his young looks and the deceptive personality to seem like a patient, as well as his technological talents, Doctor Wright knew he had to bring Dylan along to Brielle Institute.

JARED JONES is a 33 year old TUTOR at Brielle Institute and looks a lot like Ian Somerhalder.

Jared had always loved teaching – it was something that he knew he needed to do, from day one… With perseverance and hard work, the boy put his head down in school and cracked on with his academics. It was the only way that he was going to do well and get in to the one field of work his passion was bursting for; teaching. Jared missed out on some of the most important social years of his life and unfortunately, never had any real friends. With his head buried in a text book and his fingers tapping away at the computer, lusting to know more, it came as no surprise when he was hitting the top marks of his class and it again, came as no surprise when he graduated. The Jones family soared with pride as their son was following his true values, smashing through every life target he ever set himself. Life repeated itself throughout college, only he had begun to socialise more with his peers, still spending a majority of his time studying… In fact, all the girls from college loved him – he was the dark, brooding and mysterious student that never gave too much away.

Landing his first job in Colombus High School, Georgia – Jared was a hit with the students. He used his own pride in motivating students and ensured them that tripping along the way was perfectly normal… Mr. Jones made the teenagers want to show up to school; he made them want to go to his lectures and he made them want to make a difference. For the first time, Jared had finally found out what it meant to socialise truly – which caused him to flourish as a person but also took a turn for the worst… Becoming friendly with a group of students – one in particular – Jared had kickstarted what turned into a relationship. It was completely unintentional; he just didn’t have the social skills that every other man his age had, all because he was the academic one in high school. Jared had finally learnt what it like to let somebody love him, to let somebody physically be with him... It had taken 5 years of teaching and he had finally found somebody he was compatible with. Sure, he had fooled around with some of those college girls but it had never meant anything until now. Jared had gotten himself way too deep and had fallen for her; his 17 year old student.

Neither of them had really acknowledged what was so wrong about this relationship; they both loved each other, right? Perhaps they were in over their heads, getting lost over feelings that were non-existent… Another teacher had begun to notice the girl’s behaviour and it didn’t take them long to notice that the relationship between Jared and his student was too close. Catching them sharing a moment through the gap of a classroom door, Jared was torn away from the girl he loved and made a run for it. Ditching his phone and leaving the girl with no explanation, Jared was forced to start a new life elsewhere and he ended up in a state where he knew nobody. He had ruined it all after fighting so hard to become a teacher, his feelings got the better of him and he was distraught. Jared knew that he’d be unlikely to get another teaching position until he was offered the unimaginable – a tutoring position at Doctor Robert Wright’s facility in Utah in 2015. Of course, Doctor Wright knew of the horrors that had happened to Jared but he was willing to take a chance on him. The irony of it; a paedophile by law teaching children. After forming a foundation of trust with Jared, he couldn’t let him down during the move to Brielle and so, offered Jared a position with him. On the condition that his little mishap remained a secret.

ETHAN MILLER is a 27 year old THERAPIST at Brielle Institute and looks a lot like Ian Harding.

Jock, charmer, party boy – that was what Ethan Miller was known for in school. As captain of the soccer team, he was used to hearing his name being chanted from the stands… He was used to girls swarming around him at every event the school held and every celebratory party thrown when the team would win… Ethan lived the dream life at the age of 16 – or so, that was how it looked on the outside. It was every boys dream life ( to have the pick of all females, for all boys to want to be like him ) but it just wasn’t Ethan’s desire. The pressure from his parents didn’t help – they were his biggest fans. They would show up to every game, they would push him into making a career out of his talents but Ethan yearned for something much bigger – something more fulfilling. He wanted a career that made him feel good about what he was doing because despite his reputation, deep down somewhere, there were insecurities.

When it came to picking the right college and attending graduation, Ethan’s peers were shocked when he chose to major in psychology. Months ago, he didn’t have the grades, let alone the attitude. He was simply a teenage heartthrob in cleats, following a dream that belonged to his father. Choosing to better himself was the turning point for Ethan… If he could help younger people who needed to better themselves too, his life would be complete. He knew what it was like after all to have the weight of the world on your shoulders, pulling you down and pushing you around. Ethan Miller was a changed man. 19 years old and striving for the best. On top of his schooling, he managed to bag an internship with Doctor Robert Wright – a doctor renown for his very own institute in Utah. That was when the Miller’s realised how serious he truly was – that it wasn’t just some phase he was going through… With disappointment circling his veins, Mr Miller detached himself from Ethan, but his mother never stopped trying.

Once his internship had ended and Ethan became a qualified therapist, his turnover rate was better than anybody else he worked with… Patients would come and go, purely because Ethan was key to helping them realise the issues and more importantly, how to tackle them. Despite being an authoritarian – which several patients despised – Ethan used his own experiences to show them that he understood. He had been in the position where nobody else could relate to him, where nobody else understood him and it worked to his success. Basking in glory for going into the dream job that he had spent so long searching for, Ethan finally felt at peace with himself. In all honesty, Ethan was one of the least corrupt staff that Doctor Wright had… But he too, had his moments of negativity. If a patient was being a pain in the ass, Ethan’s old self came into play – he would use everything he knew as a jock to give the patients a kick. Ethan refused to be pushed over like his own father had done to him and he didn’t mess around, but if anything, this worked in his favour. Sometimes, his arrogance for succeeding could get the better of him but this only made him more likeable in the eyes of Doctor Wright, making it a no-brainer to take him along to Brielle Institute.
