If we can all agree to call Robert Prevost by his new chosen name of Leo XIV then we can all call trans people by their chosen names. It’s not hard.

CLARIFICATION: Pope Leo XIV was born in Chicago but has spent the majority of his ministry (since the 80s) serving in Peru. He holds dual American & Peruvian citizenship.
New Pope Leo XIV sounds cool. He hates JD Vance.
Recession Indicator: American Pope (x)
I think the funniest part is that there are probably conservatives going YEAH WOO USA USA without knowing that this is pretty legible as the Vatican indicating their opinion that America is in decline.
Vatican leadership has been adamant for decades that an American pope would not happen unless we're not in control of everything anymore, and the new pope's mentor specifically used the words "in decline" in reference to the point at which an American pope would be on the table lmao
edit: not that the catholic church is monolithic internally, there are plenty who don't share that opinion, but picking this guy means they definitely had to win over the contingent against having an American running the church for a generation & that means making the case that we're (in the process of) losing our crown and said crown is not likely to return swiftly. For the record I think this is a good thing.
NAH😭
