38: What would their dæmon be?

YES I was hoping for this exact question, thank you!

I had to think a lot before choosing one for Agatha, the most obvious answer would be a bunny since that's what her familiar (probably) is, and she needs those cuddles and moral support real, real bad. Another fun option would be a monkey like Mrs. Coulter's, so she can have her own lil fucked up relationship with it. Not to mentions the really fun options like a raccoon or a skunk, to match her stupid clown personality.

BUT my final answer is: a magpie.

An eurasian magpie, to be specific. Omnivorous, devilishly smart, capable of grief, rumored to be a thief, rumored to bring bad luck. Its colors remind me of Agatha's iconic outfit too.

I'm calling her Belladonna, it's witchy but also tongue-in-cheek (it pretty much means 'hot lady'). And yes, Agatha would be the rare person who has a same-sex dæmon, which I'm sure freaked Evanora out. Bella would be aiding and abetting Agatha's crimes and play along during her improv con schemes, but in reality they'd have such a strained relationship. I think Agatha hasn't shown any affection to her dæmon in a long, long while.

As for Rio, I've played a bit with giving her either a maggot or a shiny green beetle, but no, I can only pick one answer: a rat. Just a fat, regular ol' rat.

Rats have a bad rep, you know? This little guy is sweet and smart and clean and loyal, he has cute little cold fingers. He loves fruit and veggies. He has a very ancient name that no one can pronounce anymore, but people usually call him Mortimer (which means dead sea), Mort or Morty for short.
