Refusing to Say "I Love You" Back to the HoS!Sinners
THUMB NURSEFATHER RODION is upset, extremely so. Here she is, being vulnerable for once in her life and letting you know that she loves you and you respond by not returning it?
If your goal was to get on her nerves and piss her off, then congratulations, you have achieved exactly that. Don’t be surprised when her abuse gets worse and she lashes out at the tiniest thing more often. Though you shouldn’t blame yourself for any of it either.
THUMB APPRENTICE HEATHCLIFF is disheartened. It made sense, someone like him who was so willing to betray the very person who got him out of the hell he was in certainly didn’t deserve to have his feelings returned. Let alone be shown kindness in any way.
After muttering an apology, fully believing that telling you that he loves you only burdened you, he takes his leave. What was he thinking anyway, trying to get you involved when someone as horrible as his master was around?
INDEX NURSEFATHER YI SANG barely even reacts. There's no way to know if he said “I love you” of his own accord — something extremely unlikely — or something that his prescript ordered him to do.
He merely smiles, making a comment about how sad he is that you seemingly don’t want to return his “I love you” without a hint of emotion in his voice. Maybe he really is sad about it, maybe he isn’t. There no way of anyone but him to know.
INDEX APPRENTICE DON QUIXOTE flinches, shrinking in on herself. Did she say too much? Go too far?
Tears start welling up in her eyes as she apologizes profusely; stuttering and tripping over her words every so often. She didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable, she just wanted you to know what she thought of you, really!
She would’ve kept her mouth shut, all she does is ruin things.
MIDDLE NURSEFATHER OUTIS is confused at first. You’ve always returned her “I love you”s before, so why not this one? She tries again, believing that you simply didn’t hear her the first time around… somehow.
The moment she realizes that it's intentional — that you're purposefully not returning her “I love you” — she's amused. Though she doesn't know why you're not returning it, she sees it as a challenge and does everything in her power to get you to tell her that you love her, too.
MIDDLE APPRENTICE ISHMAEL scowls almost immediately. Her reaction would’ve been the same even if you returned her “I love you” — she had to act cool about it, after all — but the fact that you didn’t hurts. A lot.
She’ll pout and sulk for a long, long while; avoiding you whenever possible and glaring at you in situations where dealing with you is unavoidable.
RING NURSEFATHER HONG LU is entertained. Whether you return his feelings or not doesn’t matter to him, of course, but your refusal to return his “I love you” is still amusing… as well as intriguing.
He pesters you about it whenever he can. Was it because you got sick of playing along with him? Was this an attempt at getting back control? Or were you simply laying around or testing him for the fun of it?
Whatever was the case, he could certainly play along with your whims. He can certainly be petty enough to act like he doesn't love you either, if it comes down to it.
RING APPRENTICE FAUST is curious. Your reaction hurt a bit, but that was fine. Faust only needed Fascia’s love and companionship. She’s fond of you of course and will continue to be, but you simply don’t compare to Fascia. Most people don’t.
It doesn’t stop Faust from prodding at you in hopes of finding out why you didn’t return her “I love you”, though. There’s a low chance she’ll stop early on, but she’ll think about this moment for a long, long while.
PINKY APPRENTICE SINCLAIR merely smiles. He wasn’t expecting you to return it — he wasn’t worthy of your love, after all — nor is he hurt by this. All he wants is for you to know that he will always stay by your side, no matter what happens.
BLADE OF THE HOUSE OF SPIDERS RYOSHU doesn’t react, not outwardly. The “I love you” she told you wasn’t meant to be said outloud, anyway. It was a slip of the tongue. An accident. To utter those words outloud would be forming another string that’d inevitably wrap around her throat and squeeze until she couldn’t breathe.
She’s unsure if she should be relieved that you didn’t hear it or upset that you were ignoring her. For the sake of her sanity, however, she’ll pretend that you didn’t hear her. That way, she could pretend that she didn’t tell you her feelings for you, too.

rodigor & reader polycule hcs now or i'll end it all
hi i do NOT know how to format polycule headcanons but alas i do enjoy them (and rodigor) greatly
rodion x reader x gregor headcanons
🫧gregor has such low self worth he genuinely cannot believe he landed the two of you. you both have to pretty much spell your interest out for him before he'll get it, and it'll most likely be you that takes the first step. there's a part of him that expects everything to go wrong at one point or another, waiting for his luck to run out, and it'll be a while before he stops trying to prepare for that.
🫧on rodya's end, she knows as well as anyone else how rare and special love is in the city, and doesn't she just feel like the luckiest girl in the world to fall in love twice? she definitely shares in gregor's fears that she doesn't deserve all of this, that she isn’t worthy of it, but it'd be easier to pull teeth than get her to admit to such a thing. mostly, she just tries to indulge in feeling incredibly lucky, even if she worries that somehow, some way, there will be a debt to pay for this
🫧in terms of affection, gregor is touchstarved. he's incredibly awkward with it, and might even look uncomfortable. he's not really, it's all just… very new, and overwhelming. the fear of his arm lashing out is always present early on, but he'll slowly warm up to it over time and start to melt into it until it's thankfully just lingering at the back of his mind. he still won't typically initiate anything, not unless he's feeling brave, and even then it'll probably just be a kiss on the cheek or holding hands. rodya, however, lives for it. she's not shy about touch at all, and she's practically attached to the two of you at the hip. she's not clingy, if anything it could be called... possessive. she refuses to let herself look desperate enough be considered clingy, but you're sure to be aware of her presence at any given time.
🫧rodya is a literal spaceheater. you and gregor typically end up gravitating towards her in the colder months, and someone always ends up being clung to like a stuffed animal. neither of them are morning people, so either you have to convince them both to get up, “just five more minutes” turns into ten, then fifteen, then…
🫧these two already banter like an old married couple, so i imagine it'd be a lot of fun to get involved by switching sides depending on who's winning. either that or just sitting and watching them go back and forth until one of them gets bored or distracted. the best however is teaming up to tease gregor together. he's very easy to bother and he'll put up with a lot, especially from you two, but it's fun to fluster him
🫧gregor doesn't do a lot of nicknames– maybe liebling or babe in private, but usually just your names. he doesn't really care what either of you call him. rodya more than makes up for his lack of petnames. she does the usual ones, like sweetie or baby, along with more personal and affectionate ones in russian. she'll think just about anything either of you calls her is adorable, so long as it's actually flattering
the three of you are most likely already thick as thieves by the time you start dating, and not much changes after that. and really, maybe that's a good thing. gregor craves normalcy and stability, to feel human. rodya longs for the opportunity to be vulnerable, to let go of all those casual and playful airs she puts on, to be cared for. the thing they value the most in your relationship is certainty; the knowledge that you'll each be there. and after the two of them have lived lives in constant uncertainty around varying things, that's a gift to them
if rodigor has a million fans i am one of them. if rodigor has one fan i am that one. if rodigor has no fans i am dead
oh waiter can i get a little ring rodya oneshot or hcs. ring rodya for the poor 🤲🤲🤲🤲🤲
hi i know who sent this AND i know what you are and also what u wanted >:3 (because u were sitting next to me and i turned and asked u)
fauvist docent rodya ~ playing favorites
“Man, that's so boring!”
Her voice rang out through the gallery, the only remaining guests the art pieces themselves. The endlessly looping piano over the speakers had finally ceased, nearly all the lights had been switched off, and if you weren't so used to it by now you might have been unsettled by the shadows the works cast on the walls.
Rodya put a hand on her hip, scowling up at the piece like it had meant to be such a disagreeable display. “It's just the size of it that's impressive. This guy's got no technique at all.”
The piece in front of you was hard not to need a second to take in. A monster brought in from the Outskirts that you have to crane your neck back to get a good look at, posed in perpetual motion. It did feel like a shameful waste, the boring approach the artist had taken. Like the actual teachings of Fauvism were a mere afterthought. It was nothing new or groundbreaking, and surely you'd all seen much more complex art of similar sizes, but still…
“It is pretty big.” You shrugged your shoulders, following after the sound of Rodya's boot thudding and claws clicking across the marble floor. She waited until the two of you were through the Backdoor to let out a heavy sigh, kicking the door shut behind her.
“It's baby's first taxidermy! Thing only got into the gallery ‘cause somebody was playing favorites, y'know.”
The only recognizable people lingering in the Corridors were mere students, but Rodya had the good sense to at least lower her voice. Not out of concern that someone would hear her make such a claim or badmouth other Docents, but because even she knew that she didn’t have a leg to stand on when it came to favoritism. She tended to spend a lot more time lecturing you than she did the other batch of students you'd joined at the same time as– or at least what was left of them now. She had said something about the rest of them lacking any bite, that killer instinct that would keep them moving up instead of just keeping their heads so unremarkably above the water that they may as well drown. Or something to that effect. She had been disappointed a lot that day, so she'd been in a mood.
It put a bitter taste in your mouth sometimes. The idea that perhaps you didn't have what it took, and wouldn't have made it this far if you hadn't caught her attention specifically. Getting noticed by the Ring was hard enough to do with what little you had, but having someone take a personal interest in your career hadn't even crossed your mind.
“No, no, you got it all wrong.”
You looked up from your shoes as the two of you continued walking, half expecting to see her critiquing someone's work instead of reading your mind. The feathers in her hair bobbed and swayed as she tilted her head, a frown on her glossed lips.
“Wasn't saying anything about you. You know it's not like that.” She nudged you with her shoulder, subtle enough it could have looked like a misstep.
You had to look away, instead keeping your attention facing forward. “Maybe you should give me a bad grade just to be safe.”
Rodya sputtered. “Whaaa– Are you kidding me? You want a warning?”
“Yup. To show you're honest.” You stated simply.
The pout she wore was audible in her voice. “None of the others would put up with this. You're lucky I'm so nice.”
There wasn't much you could say to that. If anything, it assured you that you were once again receiving unfair treatment. It wasn't that you were concerned about being fair towards your peers; they certainly wouldn't worry about such a thing if they became someone's protégé. This world– of the City and the Ring alike– was too unforgiving to not sink your teeth into anything held out to you. But you were concerned about integrity when it came to your pieces.
Or you thought that you were. You were pretty sure you still liked art, that there was even a modicum of passion left for it. Any amount of respect for what you did. It was a subject you weren't eager to breach with anyone, if you even liked the thing that guaranteed you protection so long as you continued improving, producing. You knew based on her first piece that Rodya would understand, if you ever felt brave enough to talk about it. You didn't.
Rodya was quiet for a while, until she nudged you again, even softer this time.
“Y'know, your work would end up in these galleries whether you had me or not.” There was an unmistakable bitterness to her words, the acknowledgement that she wasn’t as necessary of a component in your success as she'd like to be. You disagreed, but you wouldn't be the one to bring it up.
“What, I'm not just here because you like me?” Your reflexive attempt at brushing it off fell flat. Rodya didn't hand out praise to just anybody, and that very well known fact brought you some amount of reassurance.
She shook her head, ponytail swaying. “Nah, I wouldn't like you if you needed me to like you.”
“That's…” Sweet? You think? Either way, your cheeks heated up. She grinned, wolfish and smug. All signs of that brief flash of vulnerability were gone as soon as they showed themselves. She draped her arm around your shoulders, casually enough that anyone could tell that this was a regular thing. She had always been casual with you, even more than she was with everyone else. It seemed like she had very little regard for the hierarchy even before you came along.
“You need dinner, that's why you're being so mopey tonight. C'mon, I'll treat you. Where do you wanna go?”
Rodya made it very easy to feel comfortable with her. You might have felt at ease now, if she wasn't watching you so intently. As you stammered your answer, she chuckled and continued to tug you along, making the usual flippant yet morbid comments that were practically small talk within the Ring. The whole time, those dark blue eyes trained on you and you alone, eager and observant.
It didn't feel like a wild dog stalking its prey. It wasn't the same way that she looked at hides and tendons and assorted limbs, figuring out what she could stitch and mold it into, what could be gained from it. You would have been able to deal with that easier, knowing that she was looking at you like an investment above all else. That was what you should have been.
But you weren't a mere investment to her. Tonight, especially, it felt more like you were a palate cleanser for that art piece she'd detested so much.

i had no idea where i was going with this at any point while writing it <3 i was specifically asked to make reader her little protégé that she shows blatant favoritism towards and i was like ykw. i can do that. hope this is anything as my humble offering to rodya nation
Share more of your rodigor poly thoughts omgeshshhshshshsbsbsvzsvsvsbsb anyways here are some of my own
Bro cuddles w them would be the best— if Gregor gets convinced and comfortable enough to join, because w this mans bug arm and how much he despises it(and tbh probably the rest of his body if I'm gonna be fr. Dysmorphia hits sometimes)... At the start, it'll def take time and coaxing from both you and Rodya
And when it does happen, you gen won't want blankets anymore with these two around
Don't get me started on Rodya bcuz ur so right she looks super comfy and warm, I think it's a pretty good contrast to her ice/cold themes lol
Yk how Rodya joined the opposing side during the first intervallo, Gregor was like "I thought we were close??" and she responded w something along the lines of spicing things up??? I can't remember too clearly lol
I can imagine her pulling more stuff like that, like she's a tease so
I'm gonna go to a more deeper part of the poly, both of them likely need a lot of reassurance bcuz godDAMN... That's a lot of trauma
Project moon really won't let any characters be free from the shackles of depression ig
DUDE DEAR ANON YOUR . THOUGHS YAMLLAH i have to tag so people see these whatt he hell
the gregor thing im gonna sob😭😭definitely man. but hes gonna be so happy and cozy once hes sleeping in that bed with the both of you he regrets not doing it sooner. its so comfortable being snuggled by two bodies warmer than his! also real af rhat combined body heat will make up for any and all blankets you had LMFAOO
NO BUT RIGHT i like to imagine she has warm skin with her warm personality meanwhile gregors is still kind of cold. i was contemplating between cold and warm skin between her but i settled with the latter since idk itd be sort of cuze to imagine her body temperature getting warmer when shes around the people she loves so dearly.
anyway more reason to cuddle them both👀 also i remmeber kenfkfjfjd ITS SO CUTE theyre so cute im gonna epxlode. speaking of hells kitchen i think if you were a cook theyd both worship you if you made anything for tjem (not like they didnt before... heh) SHE SO WOULD THOUGH i can picture her smirk aswell GOD shes so cute we should all just polish her feet
ure right on the reassurance too . i cant say much since im gonna need to replay their cantos for sure but im sure with the power of love we can erase any and all insecurities from their heads.

It felt like Rodya’s mood was getting worse with each passing day.
You remember back when she was so gluttonous that she’d go for seconds, thirds and sometimes even fourths during lunch break. Now, though? She barely ate; showing an uncharacteristic disinterest in food that left you extremely worried.
She even just gave you her food assuming that you were hungry while having not eaten anything herself the entire day. What were you supposed to make of that?
That wasn’t the only strange thing about her, though.
She was less social than she used to be— having withdrawn into herself and spending all of her free time studying anything she could learn about WAW abnormalities; their behaviors, breaching patterns, energy output, everything.
Before long, you came to the conclusion that it had to be that abnormality, Knight of Despair, that was the cause of all of Rodya’s distress. If the aforementioned WAW studying coupled with the fact that Rodya spent most of her time working on Knight of Despair wasn’t enough proof, then the odd looks she’d give to anyone who even uttered its name certainly was enough. At least, it was enough for you.
“Rodya,” you decided to confront her once. “You’ve been acting weird for the past two weeks. Please tell me what’s wrong.”
“It’s nothing,” was the last thing you heard from her before she started avoiding you.
Today, you had the fortune of catching a glimpse of her in the main room; anxiously glancing down the hallway where Knight’s unit resided, completely unaware of your presence even though you didn’t bother to hide. You didn’t bother approaching her either.
Before long her eyes lit up and she marched out into the hallway. Whatever it was that gave her this much hope, you hoped that it would go well, for her sake.
So you waited; tapping your foot along to each second that passed by without any indication of her returning. One minute, two, three, four, five…
WAW tier abnormalities required much more attention than abnormalities of lower risk levels, so it was normal for a work with them to take up to an hour. However that also depended on how experienced an agent was, so someone like Rodya shouldn’t have taken more than twenty minutes, and yet…
Despite knowing that she would be fine — Rodya was one of the strongest agents in the entire facility after all — you couldn’t help but worry for her. Against your better judgement, you stepped into the hallway and made your way towards Knight’s unit.
Barely two steps in and she left the unit, much to your relief but that distressed look on her face made your worry return just as fast. Before you could call out to her in hopes of comforting her, another agent from across the hallway reached her first and entered Knight’s unit after a bit of small talk.
You watched as Rodya stared into the closed door of the unit, watched as her eyes darkened at the sight of what was going on inside; refusing to move a single inch from her spot.
“Rodya—” you ended up calling out to her anyway, making your way over to her almost helplessly as just watching her look like this hurt. You couldn’t even imagine the amount of hurt she must be feeling. “Rodya, please.”
She finally, finally tore her gaze away from the unit door and looked after you for the first time in so long when you placed your hands on her shoulder.
“You can be honest with me,” you continued, voice trembling under the weight of her gaze. “I might not understand, but I promise I won’t judge you. I just… want you to be happy again.”
She stared at you for a moment, her lips parting slightly before she looked away from you. “…I—”
The door to the containment unit happened just then— far too earlier than it should’ve. The agent that went inside came out, holding a shield that was unfamiliar to you but something that happened to be familiar to Rodya judging by the way her body tensed in response.
They immediately started talking with Rodya after exchanging a small greeting with you. You didn’t catch what they were saying as you were focused on Rodya’s body language and how it kept getting tenser and tenser, but you did catch some of the words being said. Same abnormality, whining, a knight, no work, model employee…
They left before you knew it, leaving Rodya glaring at their back as her body trembled— wait, trembled?
“Rodya,” you called out to her again.
She turned to you this time, her expression unreadable save for the empty smile on her lips. “I don’t get it,” her voice trembled.
You hastily opened your arms as a quiet invite and she accepted it; slowly reaching towards you and wrapping her arms around you while burying her face in your shoulder. You returned the gesture, holding her as tightly as you could in hopes that it could make her feel at least a little better.
“I don’t get it,” she repeated into your shoulder, “Why doesn’t she ever choose me?”
She? Could it be Knight?
“I’ve done everything. I’m the only one who can make her so happy that she only produces positive energy boxes. I’m the only one who connects to her so deeply that no one else stands a chance at understanding her as much as I do. I’m the only one who puts so much effort into understanding her this much in the first place, but she still… she still chooses that kid over me?”
Her breathing stuttered.
“Am I just not good enough…?”
“No, Rodya, you are! You’re the strongest and most capable employee in this facility, the others couldn’t hope to be half as strong as you are no matter how hard they worked! You’re more than good enough, I promise.”
Your words didn’t seem to reach her, though.
“…right.”
She stayed silent after that. It seemed that, while she wanted to stay in your embrace, she didn’t have anything more she wanted to say to you or talk with you.
Was that abnormality really the only way to help return Rodya to her former self?
Was there no hope of you helping Rodya move on without it?
₊✦Limbus Company | Yandere!Rodion x Gn!Reader | No spoilers!✦₊
No matter what she does, Rodya feels like she’ll never be good enough for you.
She adores you, but that adoration comes with envy and envy comes with resentment. She can only pretend that you’re an extension of her for so long when you’re not even in a relationship with her. Who’s to say that you won’t fall in love with someone else and shine brighter than she ever will with that nobody you decided to get with?
No. No no no no no. Rodya can’t let that happen, absolutely not.
Losing you — and especially to some loser who doesn’t even deserve you? — would be proof that she’s not as special as she wants to believe that she is. That’s not something that she can handle.
On the other hand, if you become hers, isn’t that proof that Rodya really is special?
She’ll court you normally— or at least try to. She doesn’t want to scare you away from her and make you go running into another’s arms though she can be a bit overbearing with her affections anyway. She’ll be on her best behaviour when she’s with you, too, but the same can’t be said when you aren’t around. After all, what better way is there to increase her chances with you than scaring away competition?
