ISHMAEL

🫧probably not super used to taking care of others but she'll try. has a basic knowledge of how to handle common illnesses, but she likely doesn't get sick often if at all and might not have that much experience with it. she's not squeamish at the very least. it's the best possible time to get some sympathy out of her; you just look really pitiful, and you're asking her for help, and she can't stand to leave you alone in such a state.

🫧she's very insistent upon you taking your medicine at exactly the right time. she sets alarms. stop whining that it tastes bad and just take the damn cough syrup. you're also going to be getting a lot of soup, because she knows that that's supposed to be good for you and it's quick and simple to make. if you are really, really pathetic, you might be able to get her to spoon feed it to you. that information will not be leaving your room though

🫧very by the book once more, she insists on rest. and if you really can't rest without her there, well, she's willing to cuddle with you. she's not worried about catching anything, and again, she really can't bring herself to say no to you in this condition. deep down, it makes her feel good to be able to help you in this way. she doesn’t like to feel powerless, but this is something that she can try to ease your suffering in

🫧i'm so sorry to say this but she is probably squicked out by your sickly-ness. it's icky. she's not going to leave you to fend for yourself, but she's not gonna cuddle you, and she's probably going to hate a lot of it. like if you have a fever she'll change the cool damp rag on your forehead, but she'll make a face and it'll be very obvious she's grossed out

🫧will however pet your head and coo at you like you're the most pathetic creature on the planet, but her bringing your favorite snacks/drinks might make up for it. she's always struck me as the sort to do kind things but not act the nicest while doing them/be borderline patronizing, but she cares about you and doesn't want you to suffer

🫧she's got home remedies from when she was a kid and she is willing to try them all. they're low cost/free and really not that difficult because they're from when she was a kid, but she really does want to help and believes that they will

🫧tries to take your mind off of your misery. she'll bring some card games or even just sit and talk with you for as long as you can stay awake. she sticks around when you fall asleep in case you wake up and need something, and also because she does get a little worried. growing up in the backstreets, she's definitely seen small illnesses take people away unexpectedly. on occasion she'll look up from whatever she's doing, make sure you're okay, and go back to it

i haven't been writing much at all recently bc of trials and tribulations so i hope these headcanons at least are anything. i also hope this doesnt sound like rodya slander i adore her but i think she's the LAST person i'd want taking care of me while sick bc my god she'd irritate me DHSBFBHSJF

“Man, that's so boring!”

Her voice rang out through the gallery, the only remaining guests the art pieces themselves. The endlessly looping piano over the speakers had finally ceased, nearly all the lights had been switched off, and if you weren't so used to it by now you might have been unsettled by the shadows the works cast on the walls.

Rodya put a hand on her hip, scowling up at the piece like it had meant to be such a disagreeable display. “It's just the size of it that's impressive. This guy's got no technique at all.”

The piece in front of you was hard not to need a second to take in. A monster brought in from the Outskirts that you have to crane your neck back to get a good look at, posed in perpetual motion. It did feel like a shameful waste, the boring approach the artist had taken. Like the actual teachings of Fauvism were a mere afterthought. It was nothing new or groundbreaking, and surely you'd all seen much more complex art of similar sizes, but still…

“It is pretty big.” You shrugged your shoulders, following after the sound of Rodya's boot thudding and claws clicking across the marble floor. She waited until the two of you were through the Backdoor to let out a heavy sigh, kicking the door shut behind her.

“It's baby's first taxidermy! Thing only got into the gallery ‘cause somebody was playing favorites, y'know.”

The only recognizable people lingering in the Corridors were mere students, but Rodya had the good sense to at least lower her voice. Not out of concern that someone would hear her make such a claim or badmouth other Docents, but because even she knew that she didn’t have a leg to stand on when it came to favoritism. She tended to spend a lot more time lecturing you than she did the other batch of students you'd joined at the same time as– or at least what was left of them now. She had said something about the rest of them lacking any bite, that killer instinct that would keep them moving up instead of just keeping their heads so unremarkably above the water that they may as well drown. Or something to that effect. She had been disappointed a lot that day, so she'd been in a mood.

It put a bitter taste in your mouth sometimes. The idea that perhaps you didn't have what it took, and wouldn't have made it this far if you hadn't caught her attention specifically. Getting noticed by the Ring was hard enough to do with what little you had, but having someone take a personal interest in your career hadn't even crossed your mind.

“No, no, you got it all wrong.”

You looked up from your shoes as the two of you continued walking, half expecting to see her critiquing someone's work instead of reading your mind. The feathers in her hair bobbed and swayed as she tilted her head, a frown on her glossed lips.

“Wasn't saying anything about you. You know it's not like that.” She nudged you with her shoulder, subtle enough it could have looked like a misstep.

You had to look away, instead keeping your attention facing forward. “Maybe you should give me a bad grade just to be safe.”

Rodya sputtered. “Whaaa– Are you kidding me? You want a warning?”

“Yup. To show you're honest.” You stated simply.

The pout she wore was audible in her voice. “None of the others would put up with this. You're lucky I'm so nice.”

There wasn't much you could say to that. If anything, it assured you that you were once again receiving unfair treatment. It wasn't that you were concerned about being fair towards your peers; they certainly wouldn't worry about such a thing if they became someone's protégé. This world– of the City and the Ring alike– was too unforgiving to not sink your teeth into anything held out to you. But you were concerned about integrity when it came to your pieces. 

Or you thought that you were. You were pretty sure you still liked art, that there was even a modicum of passion left for it. Any amount of respect for what you did. It was a subject you weren't eager to breach with anyone, if you even liked the thing that guaranteed you protection so long as you continued improving, producing. You knew based on her first piece that Rodya would understand, if you ever felt brave enough to talk about it. You didn't.

Rodya was quiet for a while, until she nudged you again, even softer this time. 

“Y'know, your work would end up in these galleries whether you had me or not.” There was an unmistakable bitterness to her words, the acknowledgement that she wasn’t as necessary of a component in your success as she'd like to be. You disagreed, but you wouldn't be the one to bring it up.

“What, I'm not just here because you like me?” Your reflexive attempt at brushing it off fell flat. Rodya didn't hand out praise to just anybody, and that very well known fact brought you some amount of reassurance.

She shook her head, ponytail swaying. “Nah, I wouldn't like you if you needed me to like you.”

“That's…” Sweet? You think? Either way, your cheeks heated up. She grinned, wolfish and smug. All signs of that brief flash of vulnerability were gone as soon as they showed themselves. She draped her arm around your shoulders, casually enough that anyone could tell that this was a regular thing. She had always been casual with you, even more than she was with everyone else. It seemed like she had very little regard for the hierarchy even before you came along.

“You need dinner, that's why you're being so mopey tonight. C'mon, I'll treat you. Where do you wanna go?”

Rodya made it very easy to feel comfortable with her. You might have felt at ease now, if she wasn't watching you so intently. As you stammered your answer, she chuckled and continued to tug you along, making the usual flippant yet morbid comments that were practically small talk within the Ring. The whole time, those dark blue eyes trained on you and you alone, eager and observant.

It didn't feel like a wild dog stalking its prey. It wasn't the same way that she looked at hides and tendons and assorted limbs, figuring out what she could stitch and mold it into, what could be gained from it. You would have been able to deal with that easier, knowing that she was looking at you like an investment above all else. That was what you should have been.

But you weren't a mere investment to her. Tonight, especially, it felt more like you were a palate cleanser for that art piece she'd detested so much.

She's a bit of a hypocrite, i can imagine her lecturing you about your sleep habits. What about her? Faust is built different apparently, geniuses of her caliber must adapt and overcome but as long you stay below her you WILL sleep your 8 hours.

Faust will usually be the big spoon, i imagine her liking being the small one but since she gets to bed ultra late thats the easiest way to snuggle with you.

When she wakes up earlier than you she just stares at you, watching drool slowly drip from your mouth to the pillow. Apparently being a good cuddle parter is something faust can pride herself in, no geselchaft involved.

Has a lot of those pijama sets with the santa hat looking thingy, she would be very happy if you wore one with her.

Its you, donqui and your color fixer plushie collection against the world. If she ever catches you sleeping while cuddling one of those she would be SOOOOO jealous, she will wake you up and demand explanations. She will NOT stand this (she says as she cuddles onto your chest)

She moves so much on her sleep. she is stealing the blankets, as much as you try before you even realize the blanket is gone and you're cold and miserable while she sleeps besides you totally oblivious about the evil acts she inflicts upon her most beloved.

While one may think she wakes up at 5 am from the rigorous training she went at the house of spiders you would be wrong, whats the real reason?

She needed to get Araya ready for school thats all😭 if it wasn't for the habit she picked up with Araya she would have started waking up at 5 pm as soon as she got out that place.

She definitely has drawn you while sleeping. She has a sketchbook she keeps tucked somewhere with drawings upon drawings of you drooling on HER pillow cases (honestly i cant decide if she would have some fancy ass pillow cases or no pillow cases at all… i guess im truly a larper sfter all😔).

Every days is an adventure with her. Trying to untangle from her hair might as well be consider on the same level as a travel to the outskirts.

You swear it has a life on its own the way it just seems to magically target your mouth and orifices. and then your most beloved has the nerve, the absolute GALL to complaining about you getting her hair dirty? She must be out of her- oh you two can shower together? Now that you mention it…

Honestly i really dont see her as the snuggler type, she seems like someone who would enjoy to have you brushing her hair while you both talk. Doing your morning routine together is absolutely her favorite part of the day.

she’s smooth with it; shamelessly and deliberately leading you towards the hanging, decorated plant, making sure that you’re completely unaware of this even happening. sure, she’s kissed you aplenty before—but this feels more special. some of the other sinners can’t help but sigh and shake their head over your obliviousness. other sinners (don quixote, gregor, and possibly ishmael) are actively egging on the 9th sinner.

once she finally gets you directly under it, rodya is quick to alert you on this ‘interesting circumstance’; it is so obvious that she did this on purpose, to the point that it makes you laugh. nonetheless, you can’t help but to go along with her hijinks. the sinner will give you a biiiig ol’ smooch, on your cheek and mouth. maybe even a hug (that’ll leave you clawing and gasping for air) as well.

:: heathcliff.

you’d have to be the one to bring him under it—maybe even pull him over.

his excuse is that he doesn’t have time for entertaining such a lovey-dovey action, and as much as he tries to convince you, it’s obvious that he’s lying. the 7th sinner, even after the events that transpired at the wuthering heights manor, heathcliff struggles with vulnerability—and especially when love and romance is involved. he’s still all messed up with █████████; he was so sure that he would never find a love like that again. and this just sounds… a bit too much. but, then again—another part of him desperately wants to feel that way. with you.

when you eventually lead him under, he stiffs up and basically becomes a statue. maybe blushing a whole lot, too. it worsens when you go for the (possibly multiple) kiss. the rest of the sinners can only watch—and laugh.

:: meursault.

it can either be him, or you. he doesn’t mind either way.

the 5th sinner is one of few words; he does what’s ordered, and remains stoic beyond anything else. this only truly changed—bit by bit—the more he traversed within and outside mephistopheles. more often than he realizes, he’s begun to do things without being ordered to, not excluding when it came to you. in fact, he’s done much more for you personally at an almost hourly rate. this is just his own way of showing his affection and love for you.

a chaste kiss is what meursault will give you, should he be the one to lead you under. short and sweet. you’re free to smother him in affection; and while there isn’t any visible reaction at first, the lightest tint of pink slowly makes itself known, on both his ears and cheeks. (and yes, rodya is on her way to tease him.)

Provided that you’re never snarky towards her — or at least, apologize when you are — as it would ruin your relationship with her in an instant, Rodya will switch back and forth between encouraging your behaviour and trying to cheer you up.

For the former, you can be assured that she’ll be your number one cheerleader and will back you up without hesitation— well, unless you’re being snarky towards Vergilius, at which point she’ll ditch you because she doesn’t want to get in trouble. Oh, but she’s all too happy to let you rest your head on her lap or coddle you in general in the aftermath of your decision if something goes wrong.

For the latter, she'll also be coddling you all the while she tells you that you shouldn't be so grumpy. She'll scold you a little, too, but that's more light hearted and playful than anything else.

As for you being smart, Rodya absolutely adores listening to everything you have to say even if she doesn't understand some of it. Something about hitting two birds with one stone because she gets to listen to your voice for who knows long as well as getting to brag about how smart her significant other is. Though be warned that she will tease you over it.

"I Love You" Gone Wrong

With how busy your girlfriend has been lately thinking about another woman, you decide to pull a prank that’s a little mean to get back at her. Unfortunately things go wrong before you can do the prank.

While Rodya always lamenting over the lack of attention Knight of Despair gave to her nor the obsession she had towards the abnormality was nothing new, it did make you feel neglected.

You were Rodya’s girlfriend after all, the Knight of Despair wasn’t.

One thing that you will reluctantly relent on was the fact that the Knight of Despair was absolutely gorgeous — as all women were — but while you could understand why Rodya cared so much about Knight's acknowledgement, it wouldn't stop you from pouting over the lack of attention you got from Rodya due to her obsession.

So you come up with a little prank: Get Nothing There's ego gift with the help of a friend, then pretend that you were Nothing There disguising as yourself.

It's a bit mean spirited, sure, but at this point you were genuinely curious as to how she'd react.

"Rodya," you called her name extra sweetly in hopes that she wouldn't catch onto what you were scheming to do. And thankfully she didn't seemed to as she only hummed in response, her mind somewhere else. "I'll go work on Nothing There now, so see you at noon."

"See you..." she muttered back.

Seeing her like this made you want to pout and sulk until she gave you some attention, but you shouldn't falter this early into your prank. So with a wave, you left the welfare department and headed towards disciplinary department where Nothing There's containment unit was.

The work with Nothing There itself was… alright. Nothing to write home about since — excluding the dread it made you feel with its appearance — Nothing There was one of the most obedient abnormalities to work with so long as you knew what you were doing.

However you underestimated how stubborn alephs could be when it came to handing out their ego gifts. Especially after you saw Rodya get Knight's gift after the first time she worked on the abnormality. If only Rodya would understand that Knight already acknowledged her; that she was already special in the eyes of the people around her, but alas.

You finally get Nothing There's ego gift at midnight, for too late for it to be noon or for you to pretend like you just got caught up in a conversation with another agent to explain why you were so late.

The moment you finally stepped out of the containment unit you holed yourself up in — which resulted in a lot of injuries that the gift of that galaxy kid struggled to heal on its own — you were met with the sight of Rodya anxiously pacing in the hallway, muttering something under her breath as she chewed on her nails.

Oh.

Oh no.

You didn't think that Rodya would notice your disappearance.

Well, you were gone for most of the day so technically Rodya noticing that you were gone wasn't that weird, but also given the fact that Rodya worked so hard to get Knight's attention all day to the point she neglected herself, her noticing that you were gone was weird. It certainly made the butterflies in your stomach flutter around though.

"R- Rodya," you weakly called for her, unsure if you even wanted to go ahead with your prank on how you would begin to explain your thought process for it.

She turned to you immediately. Her eyes, which were filled relief at the sound of your voice just a moment ago, widened in terror when she saw the state you were in.

"Dorogaya!!" She was on you the next second; hands on your shoulders as she looked at every single injury on your body. "What happened to you?!”

You wanted to reassure her— really, you did! But you couldn't help but be mesmerized by her looks with how close she was to you. Curse your woman loving brain and curse Rodya for looking so beautiful with the way light reflected off of her deep blue eyes, the way she was biting her lip out of worry, the way her hair framed her face as she looked down at you…

A small, breathless "I love you” was all that you could manage to utter.

She froze up.

"What… did you say...?”

"I love you...?" you repeated.

She stared at you, her expression becoming more horrified with each passing second.

You didn’t say anything. You couldn’t. Not when Rodya looked really hot when she was horrified for your safety like this.

“Dorogaya…” The pet name left her lips in a mere whimper before she pulled you right into her chest; her heartbeat beating erratically against your ear as her body shook and she struggled to breathe right. “No… no no no… Not you.. Why you… why…”

Okay, you should definitely say something now because seeing her like this was already starting to hurt your heart and if she spiraled then you wouldn’t know what to do with yourself.

“Rodya…” you called to her gently, making sure not to startle her. “I’m alright, I just have a few wounds from overworking is all. But look, the generator is already healing them.”

The word “generator” was what caught her attention. She pulled away slightly, carefully watching one injury on your face. Sure enough, her expression twisted to that of relief — yet with one of concern still — as the injury healed little by little.

“You…”

Her tone, however, was anything but pleased, as she pulled you back into her chest and buried her face in your hair. “You worried me sick, dorogaya!!”

“I’m sorry!” you immediately apologized. “I didn’t think that you’d be out here waiting for me!”

“That’s not what I meant, ya know,” she huffed. “Who says ‘I love you’ while their girlfriend is worried sick for them?!”

“Ah… well…” You had nothing to say for yourself. At the very least, given the fervour that she was speaking to you with, this did seem to distract her and get her mind off of Knight of Despair. So you guessed your prank worked in the end…?

“If you want to make it up to me, you better buy me food, dorogaya.”

It definitely worked.

“Hehe, I’ll buy you everything you want to eat then~”
