the chants!
Cat: I love tuna sandwiches!
Janet: What's wrong with Chrestomanci? He looked really pale
Roger: Oh, he's fine, he just can't stand the smell of fish
Janet: Really, why is that?
Julia: Mummy says it's because of unresolved trauma due to his abusive childhood
Cat and Janet: ...
Roger: He was the central agent in a smuggling ring which, among other things, transported the butchered bodies of mermaids between worlds
Janet: Holy shitting fuck balls
roger spent the entire books eating popcorn and enjoying gwendolen/janet and julia’s absolute bullshit and occasionally filching cat to build treehouses and I admire him greatly for that
I’ve (obviously) become obsessed with the Chrestomanci series by Diana Wynne Jones so I’m calling any/everyone who has also read these books so we can fangirl together about our dumb (amazing) nine life enchanters and lovely living godesses and anyone else included. i love these worlds and really wish I’d found this series sooner in my life. I’ve got to catch up on lost time.

Roger and Julia Chant - Charmed Life by Dianna Wynne Jones
do you think julia and roger can recognise specific dressing gowns and suits? like does christopher prefer a certain colour when he’s feeling particularly bumptious or pleased, or kind of in a ‘im not about to listen to this bs again but here we are’ mood? like is there a colour scheme (eg, the ‘quilted sunset, emperor of peru’ dressing gown is worn when christopher wants to visually stun someone into agreeing to his demands without totally concentrating on what they are)
‘oh no,’ whispers julia to roger one night at dinner. ‘daddy’s wearing the violet suit. what do you think the mages of series one said’
‘nothing good,’ roger mutters back, trying to fade into the wallpaper a little more. ‘we better not tell him about the treehouse just now’
