I don't think I can stress this enough for rp...
ASK QUESTIONS IF YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND SOMETHING!!!
If you don't like how something is playing out or you don't understand why a character is doing something negatively against yours, ASK ABOUT IT!!!
DROP the assumptions, get over your own self, and ASK your partner.
...then LISTEN!!!
There might not even be a problem except this thing called characterization.
You know, the thing that drives a character's growth and explains how they came to be who they are and the direction they're heading in?
Not everyone is keen on characterization which is fine, but if you know your rp partner is into characterization, best talk to them and be willing to LISTEN and LEARN!!
Do share how YOU feel about what's going on and ask if it's anything personal. Again, most of the time it's not. People just like developing their characters and might be trying to work out some things with them.
And no, it's totally not okay to get upset with your rp partner for not having their muses respond in the exact manner as you want. If you have a picture in your head and want that reaction so badly, go write a story. Don't yell at your partner or try to force their hand.
Was thinking some more about Carrie’s character development.
She started out as a very emotionally stunted and withdrawn person, and at first I wasn’t sure if it’s even possible for her to get out of her shell - but come to think of it, this whole Watcher thing? It literally makes her step into the other people’s shoes, reliving their experiences as if they were her own. For someone who is bad with empathy and emotions, this kind of thing would change a great deal. And not even necessary in a good way - I mean, she’s already slowly losing her mind, and this shit can be intense. Gotta take all her resolve points to keep herself together.
Really enjoying Wasteland 2 so far! I haven’t played the first one, but after being disappointed with the Fallout 4 preview playing something that looks more like older fallouts was exactly what I needed. There is something about this kind of tactical combat that I find super relaxing.
The thing is, I got it last year together with Divinity OS and Shadowrun and wasn’t too sure about it at first because of all the mixed reviews, but so far I actually like it more than the other two. Divinity was super fun to play (especially with someone) and I loved all the interactivity, but the plot wasn’t very interesting and I’m also not a big fan of its cartoonish setting; Shadowrun had great atmosphere and plot, but I found the gameplay really lacking. And it seems like Wasteland has both - there’s a lot of interactivity and character customization, but it’s also really atmospheric and nicely written. But I’m still pretty early in the game, so I’m not sure if the combat and skill usage don’t get too repetitive later on? Hope not.
Also it’s been a long time since I last played an RPG where you create your own party, and I don’t usually roleplay much in these kinds of games, but this time around I’m having a lot of fun with it! I’ll probably write more about them later, but so far the basic idea for my Team Echo is something like this:
Nails - a sarcastic sniper and technically a team leader, although she kinda sucks at this. Dad was a ranger and also wanted her to be one, but then he died and she was like “fuck this shit” and spend next 10-something years drinking and getting into fights and generally not giving a fuck until she met others and got that brilliant idea to make a ranger team out of them to honor her father’s memory or something
Daria is a Russian prostitute who pretty much enjoyed doing her job and occasionally stealing some money on the side until it got her in some serious trouble; got saved by Nails and they’ve been the best buddies since then. She is good at picking locks and opening safes, knows some basic medicine and can handle herself in a fight. Also is an Orthodox Christian, but not many people know about it.
Mayhem is basically a fuckhuge machine of mass destruction who is really good at bludgeoning people to death. Hides her face, but it’s probably covered with burns. Doesn’t talk much, but it’s obvious that she is kinda fucked up in the head. Very loyal and fiercely protective of Lucy.
Lucy is a shy 19 year-old tech genius who acts a a team’s “little sister” of sorts; everyone’s trying to keep her out of danger, but she also can wreck some serious shit with energy weapons. Nails and Daria found her and Mayhem living on a remote farm that was going to be overrun by raiders and got them out of here. Nobody knows what exactly brought these two together and what they’ve been through (and I still haven’t come up with it), but it was obviously some incredibly horrific shit.
And then they got Angela and Rose along the way so Team Echo is 100% female and kicks some serious ass
New character for Eugene's Numenera game! Urik, Marc's Jack, and Ry, my Nano.
He makes things and she's a walking charger XD
13 and 23 please. =)
13- What is your biggest pet peeve when it comes to roleplaying?
Oh goodness. I've been RPing since I was in Grade 9, so I've had a 8 years to develop a number of things I find irritating in RPing. Buckle up, this might be a long response. The biggest ones are all under the umbrella of God-modding/ power-playing/ power-gaming. I really dislike it when RPers decide how things should be for the muses of other RPers, or refer to them doing things without consulting the player, or mun, first. I hate it when people, for example, put words in Dearka's mouth which neither the show, nor myself, have had him say, or tell me what Dearka should do in a certain situation. He's my character, and after RPing him since halfway though the first airing of the English dub of SEED, I like to think I have a handle on what he'd do. I pride myself on putting a lot of effort into Dearka, and become a little offended when someone would rather half-ass his character, and not do him justice just to mention him in a storyline, than ask me to write a post, or even just ask me what he'd do in a certain scenario.
God-modding is not only rude and inconsiderate (I think of god-modding as the RPing world's equivalent to theft), but an insult to the way the writer portrays their character. It's like telling them that they don't write them well enough, so you're going to do it for them. If that's how you think about another RPer, then personally, I think you should write fanfiction instead of RPing. God-modding can be hurtful, and there has been times in the past where someone has god-modded a character of mine (both canon and non-canon) and I've become really depressed and upset over it. I've asked myself if I really suck so bad that I'm not capable of deciding how my own character fairs in battle, or how they'd react in different situations, or simply whether they're a lazy person or not. This seems a lot more prevalent in situations where canon characters are involved- people seem to think because it's a canon character, it's okay, because they have an idea of what the character is like. However, we all see different things in the canon characters we decide to portray, and latch onto different aspects of their personality. Other RPers aren't God- they don't know what the writer has in store for their character, nor can they control the actions, thoughts, words or otherwise of a character that isn't theirs. Not even the Lord himself has control over free will, so why should another RPer?Avoiding God-modding is simple: just stick with your own characters thoughts, actions, words, history. Write in third person limited, NOT third person omniscient. Unless it's through dialogue between characters, DON'T tell another character what to do, and if you're part of a group of RPers, don't play another's character as an NPC (as though no one is playing them, deciding their thoughts and actions for them) without permission. Talk to your fellow RPers. =)23- How has your day been?
It's been very good, actually. I got out of bed at a decent time and actually made myself breakfast, before going to get my gift from you^^.
