DP X DC Prompt #7
When Danny first became a Halfa, he was a pretty standard Protective Spirit. He protected the beings of his own species: humans and ghosts. But he still ate meat despite what Sam claimed because it’s good goddamnit. And he needs the protein if he’s gonna fight for his half life all the time.
Once he became High King and really settled into his role, he became the ruler of a bunch of different demonic beings. Beings that needed to eat humans and reap souls for their own continued sustenance.
He initially protested, but then realized demanding they abstain is like those dog owners who force their carnivorous pets to become herbivores. If you’re gonna own a snake, you better get comfortable feeding it live bait and all that.
So he lays down some ground rules. I.e. no human farms. You hunt them like nature expects and if they kill you in self defense then they have earned their survival. No playing with your food unless playing with your food is what you need to sustain yourself like Fright Knight. And no wasting food. No hunting a rare breed of sentient beings for just their toenails and letting the rest of them go to waste, therefore killing more souls than needed.
So he eventually gets some pretty twisted morals, at least to human standards. But he’s not human anymore, and his subjects aren’t humans. He had to adapt, okay?
Now, I’m basing my idea of the realms off of my previous worldbuilding prompt (it’s long and you don’t have to read it but if you wanted to) but I’m thinking Danny is, like, Trigon’s boss’s boss’s boss. And I can see him hanging around with the JLA for whatever reason and a large scale demon attack happens.
The JLA calls in the Calvary. Every hand on deck. Even the consultants. And Danny shows up to the debrief. Once he hears they’re dealing with Trigon, he interrupts the meeting to “pop out for a bit. Gotta check something”. Then after he leaves in a portal and then comes back holding a stack of paper, he goes “yeah, I have to recuse myself. I can’t get involved. He needs enrichment.”
Everyone is incredibly confused, someone goes “he’s killing people, what do you mean enrichment?”
“I mean, he’s being really sustainable about it. And I went back and checked. He filed all the appropriate forms.” He gestures at the stack of papers. “And since they were approved by the appropriate channels, I can’t get involved. So unless you guys can find some proof of tax evasion or fraud, I have to let the guy have his fun. He’s actually being really reserved and well behaved for once. Best of luck. I really hope you all survive.” And then in a stage whisper “don’t tell him, but I’m rooting for you”
And then Danny rips a portal in the middle of the watchtower and bounces. And everyone is freaking out because, what the fuck, but also they didn’t even know he could make portals, he was just an ice meta, right? And Constantine you swore the Watchtower was portal proof.
