as a veteran who worked in the maintenance division of a naval air squadron, i'm chuffed that this is the background they chose for Rose. part of the enlisted life is feeling like a cog in a very large machine; you do important things every day that contribute to mission readiness, but you always feel expendable and never important yourself. you're not a pilot, or an aircrewman, or even an LSE who brings the bird in for a landing. you're just toiling away in a shop, making sure it flies in the first place, and wondering if you're ever going to feel like you've made a difference. and that's going to be Rose's arc, and i'm here for it.

I was at a Christmas party about a week ago and i was talking about how tlj was disappointing to me and how i really hope finnrey happens and one of my friends said "oh so you must hate rose" (not bitterly like genuinely) and i was actually shocked. Why would I hate her? Because she was forced into a poorly written situation where she kissed finn? Like, i still have a lot of hope for her as a character and i think that it's great if she becomes friends with finn and all the others. I just think rey and finn would be a better couple, but rose doesn't deserve to be hated for liking finn. After all, we know finn was a hero to the resistance, it makes sense that he would be well liked. I would be more shocked if he wasn't liked (*cough* holdo *cough*)
