Rey: Master Ahsoka can I ask you something about the Jedi?
Ahsoka: For the last time Rey, I am not a master. I left the temple as a padawan.
Rey: But you know a lot more about the Jedi than even master Luke.
Ahsoka: I guess... *sigh* Okay what's your question.
Rey: Well... umm... I understand relationship were... discouraged ?
Ahsoka, giving Rey a knowing look and a smirk: Not every every type of relationship. Master and padawan relationship were something special, though attachment was discouraged.
Rey, hesitant: It seems...
Ahsoka: It's bullshit is what it is!
Ahsoka: It's hard enough that you're supposed to give adequate care to children but how do you not get attached to them without giving them the impression you just don't care for them? I sure know some masters that never mastered that skill. And on top of that, in the days I was a padawan, we were supposed to lead a war. A very close friend of mine lost her head over the pressure to be good enough a Jedi so that her master gave her her approval, but she never got it because her master was too afraid to show affection. And of course... their was Anakin. Too afraid of being rejected for expressing affection he could never get the help he needed to manage his feelings, and Palpatine took advantage of that.
Ahsoka: Sorry, I didn't mean to unleash all that on you.
Rey: So.. you don't think it's bad for Jedi to love... someone?
Ahsoka: No, I don't think it's a bad thing. As long as you make your possible to not let your feelings obscure your judgment at crucial time. That's why the restriction exist.
Rey: I though it was because of the temptation of the Dark side.
Ahsoka: I don't think love can lead to the dark side. The dark side is devoid of love. I know the stories about tragic Jedi love ending in darkness, but... As far as I know they are just stories, and even if they were not, love is only a scapegoat edgy story teller likes to blame, when really they mistake love for infatuation coupled with very serious characters flaws.
Rey: You think the Sith made those stories to undermine the Jedi?
Ahsoka: I certainly can imagine them telling those stories, to themselves or other... But I don't think they needed to plant anything. The galaxy is vast and it certainly doesn't lack people who like to scoff at the concept of love. What it really comes to in the end is this : As a Jedi, you can't favor your loved ones interests above those of others. Even if it means letting a loved one die to save others. You have the right to grieve when things settle, but it should never stop you doing what's needed of you. It may be difficult but it's better this way than hiding or denying your feelings. Oh, and make sure your loved one understand this too... It'll save you a lot of drama and headache if bad things happen.
Rey: I guess that make sense...
Ahsoka: So... who is the person you like?
Rey, suddenly combusting: ...
Ahsoka: Come on! You can tell me! Is it Poe, he seems like a fun guy. Kinda remind me of some sky guy I knew... Or is it Finn? He seems adorable. Or Maybe it's Rose? That's a girl who knows her mind, and she is really cute. If I was half a century younger...
Rey: Finn is like a bother to me...
Ahsoka: So... Poe or Rose?
Ahsoka, understanding: Oh dear...
