Six Sentence Sunday
Slow progress this week, mainly b/c I spent a lot of time and effort writing a silly side one-shot. So for once, no actual chapter update. But another snippet from chapter 7 of Hell Froze Over, and We Shall Reignite It
[Roy:] “You really haven’t been taking care of yourself all these years, by the way.”
[Dante:] “Hey, look, Hell doesn’t hand out shaving cream and razors—”
“I do not mean your personal grooming, though you clearly haven’t handled that in a while, either. I mean that, for a half-devil, the state of your sealed form can often reflect your emotional health. You have not been well for a long while, for your body to have aged like so. Our regeneration should extend our prime beyond that of a normal human being’s. But neglect of one’s emotional health can lead to said regeneration becoming haphazard, and allow for aging at a more human rate, or more prominently, allow for scarring.”
Friend: “Hey you wanna join this RP thing?”
Me: “Heck yeah let me dust off my favorite OCs and tune them towards your setting. Time to give them something a little different than ‘bug-fairy-king’ and ‘phoenix-bird-god’. How about... Devil and Angel?”
...I remember when I was playing DMC5 and watched Dante’s wings unfurl for the first time in his Devil Trigger... I was floored. And that was only one of the emotions I had. Hey I’ve got a weakness for wings, tails, and horns. The way Dante’s folded around him like a coat was just... so cool!
Yes I know I’ve probably been playing too much Devil May Cry. That’s besides the point.
I was quite fond of the idea. So I went with borrowing it. I will admit the wing shape didn’t change much from what inspired me but that’s because I liked the resulting look with them “folded.” If I think of something different that still gives the same effect I like from this, I’ll probably have it be the resulting look when they get older.
Its weird to draw Roy and Evan as teenagers again when I’ve drawn them as adults past age 25 for a long while. In fact, before this, the youngest I worked with these two were 18...
Results came out good though. I love my darlings!

5. If they had a theme song, what would it be? As an OC of mine for 10+ years, I’ve had this answer for YEARS. Well, actually, his theme song largely depends on at what point of a story we’re in, but here’s a general one: King by Lauren Aquilina
17. In 40 years, what will they be the most nostalgic about? This is highly dependent on which setting we’re talking about. But I think I know which one you’re asking about~ For the “Hierarchy” verse, he’s already 43. (I had to go grab my timeline for Reignite. He’s 2 years older than Dante and Vergil.) 40 years later I think he might get most nostalgic about Nero and Kyrie’s wedding. Yes, that, above all other weddings he gets invited to. I’ll let that reason be played out later, when I finish the fic. Let’s just say, and this is my favorite thing to say: Vergil isn’t always as smart as he thinks he is. :’D
27. What makes a person beautiful to them? OH BOY. It’s Power. Okay it’s not entirely power, but Roy himself is a terribly prideful person. He’s careful to keep his ego in check but he’s still undeniably a vain man and above all he grew up being treated like a King... alongside his brother, so they BOTH have a complex about it. He’s pretty terrifyingly strong, but... He’s got his limits. (At least, in “Hierarchy” and “Reignite”, he does. You bet your ass that in my original setting, he is the almost the highest order of power. But then again, he’s supposed to be inheriting the power of a fae-lord, there, so... yeah.) Power, especially someone more powerful than him, is like fire. And he’s the moth drawn to the flame. And there’s nothing more beautiful than a power that could destroy him, yet wouldn’t, because the holder of that power likes him. (But he wouldn’t like it if the power gap is too big, either, because then he would truly feel unworthy. He doesn't like not being able to contend with or, more importantly, protect what’s important to him. Let it be known that Vergil would still have to put some effort in if he’s to beat Roy in a fight. But Vergil will oftentimes be the one that wins.) So, that’s one major factor. Have I also mentioned that white/silver hair and “radiant” (light but not pale without blood) colouring plus light-coloured (blue, green, anything not brown or dark-brown) eyes are common traits used to denote a characterization of divinity or ascension in East-Asian fantasy fiction? Roy is from East-Asia, so, I kid you not: Vergil looks pretty divine to him.
P.S. His previous mate was a pretty fantastic woman in her own right, but she’s nowhere near as ethereal as either of the Sparda twins. =P P.P.S. Seraphina is attracted to Vergil for similar reasons regarding power, except she’s also an adrenaline junkie and likes that he’s dangerous :’D
