“I can’t pretend anymore!”
Roman stares at Patton in confusion as the Moral side paces in front of his bed. This isn’t normal behavior for Patton so the concern he’s feeling grows with each step that Patton takes. When he starts running his hand through his hair, Roman knows he has to intervene.
Standing up from the couch, he steps in front of Patton before grabbing his hands gently with his own.
“Hey...hey...hey….what’s wrong, Pat?” he asks softly.
Patton stares at Roman’s hands holding his own, rubbing the back of his hands with his thumbs unconsciously.
“Sunshine? Are you okay?” he pushes, concern quickly rising.
Shaking his head, Patton breaks his gaze away from their hands and meets Roman’s.
“I have something to tell you, Roman.”
Roman squeezes his hands in support causing Patton to smile softly at him and if he didn’t know any better, Roman blushes slightly in response.
Biting his lip, Patton takes a few moments to collect himself while Roman’s the one distracted now, his gaze glued to Patton’s lips as he bites them.
Patton, seeing where Roman’s gaze is...decides actions speak louder than words so he closes the distance between them with a kiss. It takes Roman’s brain a couple moments to catch up but then, he’s kissing back just as enthusiastically.
When they part for air, Roman blinks slowly.
“What...why...Patton?”
Patton wraps his arms around Roman’s neck so one of his hands can play with the hair at the base of his neck, causing Roman to, unconsciously wrap his own arms around Patton’s waist.
“I love you, Roman. I’m in love with you but I didn’t know how to say it so I thought I’d show you,” explains Patton softly.
At the confession, Roman’s eyes widen and he starts to tear up.
“You...love….me?” asks Roman confusedly, tilting his head to the side.
“More than I could ever explain and more than you could ever know. You make my heart out-sing the choirs in the world. There’s no work of art on Earth that moves me, that makes me feel like you do--”
Roman surges forward and captures Patton’s lips in a passionate kiss before knocking him over and onto the couch from the force of his emotions.
Nuzzling his face into Patton’s neck, Roman lets out a sigh.
“I never thought that you would love me the way I love you. I swear I’ll do everything in my power to make you happy, Patton,” he whispers against Patton’s neck.
He runs his hands through Roman’s hair causing him to relax against his chest.
“You already do just by being you, Ro.”
Looking at Patton, Roman smiles brightly as he feels happier than he has in a long time. Time could stop and he’d be more than happy to remain in this moment for eternity. He raises his upper body up off of Patton’s chest so he’s resting on his forearms.
In response to Roman’s change in position, Patton reaches up and cradles his cheek with his hand -- Roman turns his head to the side and kisses his palm before returning to his original position. Before Patton can say anything, Roman leans down and kisses his forehead then his cheeks then his nose before planting a firm kiss on his lips.
“Perhaps we can move this to my room so we’re not interrupted,” Roman suggests with a smirk on his lips.
“We can go anywhere you want as long as I get you to myself,” replies Patton.

“I can’t believe you talked me into this.”
Patton tightens his hold on Roman’s waist as he carefully looks over the edge of the horse and down into the valley below them.
Chuckling lightly, Roman guides their horse along the narrow path on the mountain’s cliff.
“Don’t look down, darling. We’re almost to the other side, it won’t be much longer,” replies Roman.
Patton looks away from the edge before pressing his face firmly against Roman’s back, trusting the creative side to get them to their destination safely.
“You don’t have anything to worry about, Patton.”
Smiling against his back, Patton relaxes a little.
“How could I when I’m with you?” he responds.
Even though he can’t see Roman’s face, Patton knows that he’s blushing slightly at Patton’s comment.
Roman urges their horse on.
Even after all of this time, Patton doesn’t know how Roman manages to convince him to go on mini-quests with him in the Imagination. But once again, here he is; though, he knows Roman would never let any harm happen to him.
Patton kisses his shoulder.
“So where are we going this time, Ro?”
“Nope, you’re not gonna get it out of me that easily. I told you I have a surprise planned for us so you’ll just have to wait and see,” replies Roman firmly.
“Ugh, fine. I may withhold kisses from you, just so you know,” comments Patton.
Roman gasps.
“Anything but that, you fiend!”
Patton laughs.
They make it off of the cliff and Patton lets out a sigh of relief, lightening his hold on Roman’s waist as he looks around. They’re still on the mountain but the path widens so they wouldn’t fall off of the edge of the cliff should their horse get suddenly spooked and knock them off. There’s forest all around them, looking like a sea of green below them.
“Alright, we’re almost there. I hope you like what I planned, sunshine,” says Roman.
“I’m sure I’ll love it, honeybee.”
Roman brings the horse to a stop then hops off before helping Patton down himself. Then he ties up the horse.
He holds out his hand to Patton.
“It’s not too far away but it’s easier for us to walk ourselves than to take the horse,” he comments.
Patton nods as he takes Roman’s hand.
“Sounds good to me.”
There’s a hidden pathway, barely noticeable to the naked eye but Roman knows where it is so he leads the way.
Patton freezes when his eyes land on the surprise Roman planned for them: a romantic picnic, overlooking the forested valley with the sun just starting to set. Turning to look at Roman, who is shifting from side to side and playing with his sash as he waits for Patton’s reaction.
“Ro! This is wonderful!”
Throwing his arms around Roman, Patton hugs him tightly then grins brightly when Roman returns the hug.
Roman takes Patton's hand and leads him over to the blanket before helping him to sit down. To his surprise, the food Roman prepared were all of Patton's favorites including ones he knew he never mentioned to anyone. Clearly, Roman's been paying attention to him a lot lately.
Snuggling close to Roman once the food's been consumed, Patton lets out a sigh of contentment as he watches the sun set on the horizon.
“Thank you, Roman. This is a wonderful outing,” compliments Patton.
Roman leans down and presses a soft kiss to Patton’s temple.
“Oh, we’re not done yet.”
Without warning, Roman rolls them so Patton’s lying beneath him, his head between Roman’s hands on the blanket.
Patton blushes at their positioning though he feels a surge of anticipation rush through him.
Not giving Patton a chance to say a word, Roman leans downs and kisses Patton passionately.
There wasn’t much talking for a long time after that.

“Maybe we should stab him with his sword? Affectionately, that is.”
Patton freezes when he hears Virgil saying they should stab someone and grows concerned when he hears Logan respond.
“There may be some merit in that. Roman has not responded to any other stimuli we introduced him to.”
It takes Patton a moment to realize what his best friends were talking about.
Apparently, they’ve just discovered a particular quirk of Roman’s; one Patton’s known about for ages. Time for him to put an end to this before Roman ends up getting stabbed.
“Hey kiddos! What’s going on?” he asks cheerfully.
Logan turns to look at him.
“Greetings Patton. It appears Roman is in some kind of trance and no matter what either Virgil or I attempt, he does not respond,” explains Logan.
Patton nods his head.
“This happens sometimes. It’s nothing to be worried about as long as you know how to deal with it,” replies Patton.
Virgil furrows his brow.
“This happened before? A lot?” he asks.
Nodding his head, Patton makes his way over to where Roman’s sitting at the table, hunched over and staring at the page in front of him.
“Watch and learn, kiddos.”
Logan and Virgil move to where they can easily watch Patton but not get into his way.
Standing behind Roman, Patton places his hands on the Creative Side’s shoulders before slowly starting to massage them. It doesn’t take the trio long to see the tension felt away from Roman because of Patton’s actions.
“Mmm…thank you, dearheart. I was in desperate need of a good shoulder massage and you, my love, give the best,” compliments Roman as he looks up at Patton.
Patton smiles before leaning down to give him a chaste kiss on his lips.
“I’m happy to help, Ro; especially, since you had Virgil and Logan worried,” replies Patton gently.
Turning his head to the side, Roman spots his friends watching him then he rubs the back of his neck sheepishly.
“Sorry about that, guys. Sometimes, when the ideas aren’t flowing and I get stuck, I end up in a trance of sorts,” says Roman.
“It would have been wiser for you tell all of us a long time ago but there is no changing the past. We should be appreciative of the fact Patton knew how to return you to your senses,” comments Logan.
Virgil shrugs.
“I gotta agree with Teach on this one. It was reckless for neither of you to say anything. Don’t do it again,” Virgil asserts as he points at the offending Sides in question.
A warm sensation blossoms in Roman’s chest at their reactions.
“You’re both right and we’ll remember for the future. Now, I think it’s time you take a break Roman. Let’s go get lunch then check in on Thomas,” decides Patton.
Roman stands up from the desk then stretches for a few moments.
“A break sounds good. Wanna watch a movie after?” he asks.
Looking from Patton to Logan and Virgil, he includes everyone because spending time with his favorite people, not that he’d mention it out loud to anyone other than Patton, could be just what the doctor orders to clear up his writing block.
Patton holds out his hand to Roman which is quickly grasped then leads the way out his room.
“All is well that ends well,” comments Logan.
Virgil frowns.
“One day, I’ll get to stab Princey and it will be for a good cause.”
Logan rolls his eyes before gesturing towards the door.
Roman wanders around the mindscape looking for Patton before finding him in the imagination, standing on a bridge overlooking the ocean as he leans against the railing with his hands resting on the opposite forearm.
It’s clear Patton doesn’t notice he’s no longer alone.
As much as he wants to wrap his arm around Patton, Roman’s not sure how he’d respond or if he’s comfortable being touched right now so he simply walks over and stands next to Patton; leaving enough room for the moral side to not feel trapped but close enough to know Roman’s there to be whatever he needs at the moment.
They don’t speak, simply watch the sunset beyond the horizon of the ocean. It’s a rare moment of peace and serenity for the two Sides. As much as they’re both full of energy, they appreciate this moment more than Logan, Virgil and Deceit would. Logan would believe it to be illogical but Roman and Patton know the truth.
Roman’s startled out of his thoughts by the feel of a hand on his.
There, resting gently is Patton’s hand and even though Patton’s not looking at him, Roman soaks in the comfort – flipping his hand over and loosely holding Patton’s hand for a moment then squeezing it.
He doesn’t know what brought this on but Patton will talk about it eventually.
A gentle breeze strokes their faces while softly ruffling their hair and Roman smiles.
Patton moves closer so their shoulders touch before leaning his head down onto Roman’s shoulder then lets out a soft sigh. Unable to resist, Roman let’s go of Patton’s hand in order to wrap his around Patton. Patton responds by placing his arm around Roman’s waist and giving a gentle squeeze.
This.
This feeling.
This magic in this moment is exactly what Roman loves about Disney movies and what the others can’t grasp.
He’s not surprised to be experiencing with Patton, of all the Sides.
This feeling demands to be felt – to be truly vulnerable in order to be experience and it isn’t in Virgil or Logan or Deceit’s nature to be so open. It doesn’t make them bad or wrong, simply different from Roman and Patton.
It’s wonderful to have someone to share this with.
Patton turns then wraps his other arm around Roman before placing his head on his chest so he can listen to Roman’s heartbeat. Adapting to the position change, Roman brushes his lips against Patton’s hairline before tightening his grip around his waist.
Roman feels something wet on his shirt before realizing Patton’s crying.
Gently cupping Patton’s face, he studies the tears falling softly down his cheeks and the sad look in his eyes. Roman brushes the tears away with his thumbs. It doesn’t matter what the cause is, right at this moment. His heart simply aches for Patton.
He leans down and kisses Patton’s forehead then his nose and each cheek before finally reaching his lips. It’s a soft and gentle kiss, a different kind of intimacy than the heated and passionate kisses they share.
Pulling back, he smiles when he sees Patton smiling softly up at him.
This is for them and only them.
Not something to be shared with the others.
He doesn’t know how long they’ve been here and he can’t bring himself to care.

Settling in for the night, the usually energetic side feels a sense of calm wash over him that he embraces because being the person in charge of Thomas’ emotions is exhausting from time to time. Patton knows he can no longer ignore the siren song of his bed so he doesn’t fight it. As he’s about to turn of his lamp, his bedroom door opens and in comes Roman, much to his surprise.
True, he told the others they’re always welcome in his room ages ago…they’ve rarely taken him on it and never at night.
Roman crosses the room and throws himself down dramatically onto Patton’s bed.
“You okay, Roman?” asks Patton.
The Creative side murmurs something into comforter Patton can’t make out.
Getting out from under the bedding, he crawls over to where Roman’s laying and sits by his head where he can easily and gently run his fingers through the romantic’s hair; something he knows calms Roman down.
After a few minutes, Patton sees the tension leave Roman’s body and he smiles.
“Alright, I think it’s time we get you to bed, Ro,” comments Patton.
“But my bed is so far away and yours is so comfortable...” whines Roman.
Ok, so Patton has two choices – he can attempt to drag Roman back to his own bed by himself because its too late to bother Logan and or Virgil or he can let Roman sleep in his bed.
With him.
Let the man he’s had feelings for, for a longtime sleep in his bed with him.
Patton sighs.
There’s no way the first option is happening so option number two it is. He’ll just have to keep space between them; that’ll be easy as pie.
“You can stay, Ro but you gotta lay the proper way and under the sheets, mister,” comments Patton.
Roman groans but moves anyways.
No one can resist Patton, no one.
“You can do this, Patton. It’s only one night,” he mutters to himself under his breath.
He watches Roman settle into his bed like it’s the most natural thing – for Roman to be sleeping there, like he’s done it a million times before but Patton shakes his head. He needs to keep a lid on these thoughts because he knows they’ll never happen and his heart will hurt.
Rearranging his pillows, Patton clears space between them before he lets himself lay down.
After all, Roman fell asleep quickly and lies motionless.
Patton lies down with his back to Roman in order to pretend the love of his existence isn’t sleeping a few inches away from him in his own bed.
Tomorrow, he’ll pretend this never happen so there will be no need to talk about it as he goes back to watching Roman fall in love with either Logan or Virgil – he knows Roman loves one of them but he has strong arguments for both
As he drifts off, Patton feels something warm pressed against his back with a heavy weight laying on top of his waist.
Apparently, it wasn’t as easy as pie.
Patton’s alarm rings loudly and for a minute, he’s forgotten about his guest.
“Ugh! Turn it off, Patton!”
His eyes shoot open and he scrambles to turn of his alarm clock at the sound of Roman’s voice.
Then he looks over at Roman and blushes when he sees him staring at him.
It’s then he remembers the weight he thought he dreamt last night on his waist then looked down to see Roman’s arm.
“Go-good morning, Roman,” comments Patton.
Roman smiles but its not his usual confident grin---this one is more unsure than Patton’s ever seen on the Creative side’s face.
“I’m sure you’re wondering what I’m doing here,” states Roman.
“The thought crossed my mind once or twice,” Patton replies.
Roman takes a deep breath then freezes, not sure how to put it into words which worries Patton because Roman is so good with words.
“Ro, just take your time. I told you a long time ago that you’re welcome here and that hasn’t changed; though, I never you, of all people, would end up in my bed,” says Patton softly.
He can’t help blushing which helps Roman to relax a little.
“Oh, you’re so precious.”
Taking another breath, Roman nods to himself then meets Patton’s gaze, knowing the Moral side would never judge him.
“It’s just that….I’ve been having dreams, nightmares really, where bad things happened to you because I couldn’t protect you and last night, well…I couldn’t take it anymore. I thought, maybe, it would help me sleep better if I was sleeping next to you. Only, I didn’t know how to ask,” admits Roman.
Patton stares at him wide-eyed with tears in his eyes.
After a few moments of opening and closing his mouth but unable to say anything because he’s overwhelmed by his feelings for Roman and Roman’s admission, he does the only thing he can – he kisses him.
A couple seconds pass before Patton pulls away and giggles at the expression on Roman’s face.
“Uh…what was…that….Pa-patton?” he asks dumbfounded.
“A kiss, you silly goose. What did you think it was?”
Once the words leave Patton’s mouth, it sets in what he did and he blushes furiously.
“Oh gosh, Roman. I’m so sor-“
This time, it’s Roman’s turn to kiss Patton.
Roman pulls away then leans his forehead against Patton’s.
“Don’t be sorry for making my dream come true,” states Roman softly.
Patton buries his face in Roman’s neck to try to hide his blush causing Roman to chuckle.
“Ah, there’s my sweet and lovely puffball.”
“Oh you!”
Patton pokes Roman in the side causing him to squeak.
In response, Roman flips them over and traps Patton beneath him before copying his earlier behavior and burying his face in Patton’s neck while wrapping his arm around him.
Running his fingers through Roman’s hair, Patton feels both of them relax.
“Wanna stay here tonight? I gotta protect my handsome prince from the Big Bad Nightmares after all,” suggests Patton.
“You’re incredibly handsome, and I’m not the only one that thinks that.”
Roman looks up at Patton from where he’s lying with his head on Patton’s chest and curled against his side with their legs intertwined so as much them as Roman manages is touching.
“I’m glad you think so because you’re pretty damn handsome too but what’s the point?” he asks.
Sighing, Patton absentmindedly draws circles on Roman’s shoulder with his finger.
“Why are you with me when you can have anyone?” Patton asks.
Roman’s jaw drop opens and he’s silent for a few moments.
“What utter bullshit.”
“Language, Roman!”
Roman shakes his head in response.
“Nuh uh. You don’t get to ‘language’ me when you let something so stupid leave your lips.”
Silence falls over them for a few minutes as Roman contemplates a response to the question.
“Say I could have anyone, that doesn’t change the fact the only person I want is you, dearheart.”
Patton blushes causing Roman to smile.
“So, what brought this on?” asks Roman concerned.
Thinking about lying, Patton takes one look at his boyfriend and realizes that it won’t work. He doesn’t like to lie to Roman when it’s not necessary (date night and presents are totally worth it though.)
“I was at the coffee shop this afternoon, waiting to meet up with Logan when I overheard a couple of people from another floor in this dorm talking; that we don’t go together, you deserve so much better…that kind of thing,” Patton confesses.
As much as Roman wants to go hunt down these people and correct their terrible opinions, Patton comes first.
“Forget them, Patton. They don’t have a single good bone in their body. They’re intimidated by you and how good you are. So, they’ll try to tear you down to feel less afraid and better about themselves,” asserts Roman with a sharp jab to Patton’s chest, right where his heart is.
Patton grabs Roman’s hand to stop the jabbing then brings it up to his lips and places a kiss on the back of it causing Roman to relax a little.
“Lo tried to tell me the same thing, in his own way but I guess, I just needed to hear it from you to believe it,” Patton replies.
Hearing this, Roman beams brightly.
Then he moves so he’s straddling Patton’s waist causing him to raise an eyebrow at the action.
Roman stares down at him then licks his lips.
“Mmm…someone likes this, does he?”
Patton smacks him on the hip.
“Harder, Daddy.”
Roman winks at Patton who stares at him, eyes wide and jaw dropped at the comment.
The mood last for all of thirty seconds when Roman bursts out laughing followed by Patton. Roman collapses on top of Patton who wraps his arms around his waist tightly.
“I love you, Patton. You’re the only person who doesn’t want me to be perfect, just me,” says Roman softly.
Patton kisses him gently.
“I will smite them for you though,” offers Roman.
Patton laughs.
“How about you keep loving me instead?” he bargains.

Another dilemma has been taken care of and though they had to deal with the presence of Deceit, Patton’s pretty pleased with the solution they reached. Now, as per usual, each side’s going about their post-dilemma routine – Virgil’s in his room, listening to his favorite band while Logan’s working on a crossword puzzle.
As for Roman, Patton isn’t sure where the creative side has gotten to because Patton was the last to return. But the thought of the Prince causes him to blush especially as he considers the implications of what he said to Thomas.
Shaking his head, he knows he needs to pull himself together and check on Roman; today had been particularly hard on the prince, no thanks in part to Deceit.
Though, Fate apparently has other ideas.
There’s a knock at his door, drawing Patton out of his thoughts and back to the present.
“Patton? You in there?” asks Roman.
Patton freezes.
It seems like his thoughts summoned the prince.
This is not good. He might just say something dumb and or embarrassing.
“Uh yeah. Come on in, Roman,” he replies.
Patton braces himself by plastering on the best smile he can muster while keeping his blushing to a minimum.
The door opens slowly.
As per usual, the sight of Roman takes Patton’s breath away and he nearly swoons.
“Hey Ro. What can I do for you? You usually don’t stop by after a dilemma,” comments Patton concerned.
Roman smiles as he rubs the back of his neck.
“Uh, right. I suppose I just didn’t want to be alone today.”
“Anyways, I do have a question for you. What’s this I hear about you saying Thomas’ future husband will be the second handsomest prince around?”
Patton freezes then drops onto his couch before placing his head in his hands.
Of course, Roman would find out.
He feels the couch shift as Roman sits down next to him, very close in fact. Closer than he usually tends to sit near any of the sides, though the distance between him and Patton has been shrinking as of late though, Patton wrote that off as simple wishful thinking.
Fingers gently pry his hands away from his face.
“Hey now, don’t go hiding that adorable face of yours, Patton,” comments Roman softly.
Yuppers, he’s definitely blushing now and that’s not adorable.
Patton, long ago, accepted the effects Roman has on him but he never thought the Side in question would actually see said effects in action.
Roman chuckles.
“You are too precious for words.”
Slowly, Patton raises his head to look Roman straight in the eye then pauses.
The smile on Roman’s face is something Patton’s never seen directed at another Side before; only when there’s a cute guy in Thomas’ life and there’s a possibility of romance happening.
Oh.
OH.
“Now he gets it,” comments Roman.
He lets go of one of Patton’s hands in order to bring his hand up to Patton’s face and cups his cheek gently.
Patton feels a warm, tingly sensation blossom in his chest from the contact.
“I’m flattered that the handsomest, well besides me of course, side thinks that about me,” Roman pauses and bites his lip for a couple seconds, “I thought you would say that about Logan….”
Roman looks away from Patton in shame, not intending to share that kind of thoughts with him.
“But Logan’s not a prince.”
It takes Patton a minute to realize the truth.
Roman’s jealous of the attention he thinks Patton pays to Logan.
“Ro, I care for Logan and Virgil but not the way that I care about you. You warm my heart in ways they couldn’t even imagine being possible,” says Patton covering Roman’s hand with his own.
Roman looks back at him then smiles bright like the sun, something Patton’s aware he and the other sides never really see from the Prince.
Leaning forward, Roman touches his forehead against Patton’s.
“Is this a dream? If so, I don’t want to wake up,” states Roman.
“This is better than a dream, this is real,” responds Patton.
He fights the urge to squirm from the intensity of Princey’s gaze but he’s enjoying it nonetheless.
“May I kiss you, Patton?” asks Roman
Patton grins then nods his head, too overwhelmed by the idea of experiencing something he’s daydreamed about many times before.
An eternity passes or rather, a few seconds until Patton feels a pair of soft lips pressing against his.
He grabs onto the front of Roman’s shirt in his hand as his other one found the back of his neck.
After a few moments, they pull away with both of them smiling at each other.
As Roman goes to kiss Patton again, he suddenly yawns causing Patton to giggle at the expression on his face.
“Come on, I think it’s time for you to rest. It’s been a long day,” comments Patton.
Roman pouts.
“I didn’t say you had to nap alone, did I?”
Wrapping and arm around Patton’s waist, Roman leans backwards causing Patton to squeak at the sudden movement.
Patton snuggles close to Roman with his face nuzzling into the space by his neck while Roman lets out a soft sigh as he holds Patton firmly.
“This is pleasant. We should do it more often, perhaps after a picnic….”mentions Roman casually.
“Are you asking me out on a date?”
“Yes, yes I am.”
“I’d love to go out with my boyfriend, that is if that’s something you’re interesting in being, Ro,”answers Patton.
After not hearing anything from Roman for a couple minutes, he tries to look up at him when suddenly he feels the arms around his waist squeeze him tightly.
“There’s nothing I’d like more, Patton.”
In response, Patton kisses the closest part of him that he can reach.
They settle down and Patton intertwines their legs so they’re as close as they can get, with clothes on anyways.
Patton doodles with his finger on Roman’s chest as he smiles while feeling his boyfriend relax. Then he hears light snoring coming from the Creative side so he takes comfort in letting the sound guide him to sleep.
This may not have been what Deceit intended to happen today but it’s the bright side of the day for sure.
“Yeah, Princey here prefers guys who wear polos, have glasses and lots of freckles that he wants to count then kiss.”
Patton looks up at Roman, eyes wide and hope reflecting on his face.
“Do you really?” he asks.
Roman glares at Virgil for a couple seconds before focusing on Patton.
“Well yeah, padre. Why wouldn’t I?” he answers.
Patton blushes then let’s himself lean into Roman’s side causing the man to grin brightly in response.
“I feel like a real idiot,” comments Patton.
Moving so he’s standing in front of Patton, Roman cups his face with both of his hands to make him look at him as he talks.
“Hey now, you’re a lot of things but an idiot is not one of them. Looking back to when I’m assuming you first saw me with Virgil, I can see where you’d get that idea of us. You had my full attention from the moment I winked at you,” says Roman softly.
Patton tears up at Roman’s words.
“Oh Roman….”
Pushing himself up on his toes, Patton places his hands on Roman’s shoulders then kissed him – softly, gently and like how’s he always imagined kissing Roman. It didn’t Roman long to move one hand to Patton’s waist as the other found a more comfortable position on Patton’s face.
They pull away after a few moments and smile.
“This deserves Remy’s special hot chocolate to celebrate the two oblivious dorks finally working things out!” interrupts Remy.
Virgil smirks.
“I’ll drink to that,” he says.
Roman gives them the bird.
“Be nice, Roman.”
“Only for you, puffball.”
Patton pulls himself out of Roman’s grasp long enough to grab his hand and lead him over to the plush couches in the corner with Virgil following them. They make themselves comfortable on the two-seater while Virgil chooses one of the chairs.
“So, Virgil…how long have you known Roman?” asks Patton.
Virgil’s clearly important to Roman so Patton wants to get to know the other man better and he’s of the philosophy that a person can never have too many friends.
Meeting Roman’s gaze, Virgil picks up on the subtle panic his best friend is feeling then smirks. He’s gonna enjoy getting to know Patton.
“Since before we were born. Our moms met in college and became close then stayed close through out the years. It was only natural that we’d have a close bond to,” answers Virgil.
“Aww, that’s so cute!” Patton squeals, clapping his hands.
As annoyed Roman wants to be at Virgil, he can’t help smiling dopily at Patton’s reaction. He really is the personification of the sun.
“Alright babes! Hot chocolate is here! Enjoy it while it’s hot!” interrupts Remy bring over a tray with four mugs on it.
“Here are two for our love birds,” he hands over the mugs in a quick and fluid motion, “one for the Verge,” he passes one over to Virgil, “and the last one is for the coffee shop owner in town.”
Remy sets the trail down to the side then claims the other seat for himself.
Frowning slightly, Patton expected Remy to sit on his other side.
Conversation drops in favor of drinking the hot chocolate, the only sounds heard are sipping sounds.
“This is really great Remy! But then again, it always is when you make anything,” gushes Patton, shooting a bright smile at Remy.
Remy ducks his head to hide a pleased smiled.
Next to him, Virgil stares back and forth between the two men as he senses something going on.
Patton snuggles close to Roman then smiles up at him while holding the warm mug between his hands causing the other man to lean down and kiss him on the forehead. This is nice though he felt bad about wasting time over a stupid mistake. Wincing internally, he could almost feel Logan smacking him upside the head.
OH!
That’s an idea, Patton!
“Hey Roman, since I met your best friend, it’s only fair that you meet mine, well besides Remy, you already know him,” suggests Patton.
“That’s a brilliant idea, padre! I’d be delighted to,” replies Roman.
----------
Getting Logan to agree to meet Roman proves more challenging than Patton anticipates but he’s stubborn. He really wants his best friend and boyfriend to meet and Logan gives in eventually.
“I do not understand why you insist that I meet Roman,” Logan comments.
“Lo, you’re both super important to me,” answers Patton.
Logan tries to smother a smile at the notion of Patton thinking he’s important. It makes him feel warm, for some reason.
“Who is-who is that with Roman?” he asks trying to maintain his composure.
Patton looks at him for a moment then follows his gaze, spotting Virgil standing with Roman. Then he looks back at Logan and spots a slight blush on his cheeks.
“Virgil, he’s Roman’s best friend. I didn’t know he was coming. We can do this some other time if you’re uncomfortable, Lo.”
Shaking his head, Logan swallows twice before speaking.
“Nonsense. It’s more practical to conduct the meeting this way,” Logan responds.
Patton beams.
Three of his favorite people are spending time with him, this is gonna be great!
They walk up to Roman and Virgil, who’re chatting lightly.
“Hey Roman!” greets Patton before kissing his cheek.
“Hello love. Sorry about Virgil – he was bored so he decided to gate-crash our outing,” replies Roman.
Patton claps his hands.
“Don’t be. The more, the merrier!”
Roman smiles softly at him, pleased his boyfriend likes his best friend.
“Logan, I’d like to introduce you to Roman, my boyfriend and his best friend, Virgil,” says Patton.
Logan opens his mouth to say something but shakes his head.
“It is indeed good to meet you in person, Roman. Patton speaks highly of you,” greets Logan.
“The feeling’s mutual,” responds Roman.
“Hi! Nice to Virgil, I’m meet you,” Virgil shakes his head, “I mean, it’s nice to meet you and I’m Virgil.”
Logan smiles.
"It's a pleasure to meet you as well," he replies.
Roman raises an eyebrow at his best friend's behavior then looks over at Patton, who's watching them as well. He meets Roman's gaze and nods his head.
"Well, if you two wanna get more acquainted out here then Patton and I'll go inside if you wanna join us," comments Roman.
Logan and Virgil blush at his comment.
Taking Roman's hand before he can get punched, Patton pulls him after him into the restaurant where he gets a table for four because he knows Logan's impeccable manners wouldn't allow for him to ditch Patton and Roman even if that's what he wants.
Sliding into one side of the booth next to Patton, Roman drapes his arm across his boyfriend's shoulders lightly with a pleased smirk on his face when Virgil notices he'll be sitting close to Logan.
This should be interesting.
From the look on Virge's face, Roman knows he's gonna get shit for this later but it's so worth it; he believes his best friend deserves to be as happy as he is and by looking at Specs, Virgil could be just what he needs.
----
After the first lunch together, the quartet begins to hang out regularly -- mostly at Logan and Patton's apartment.
It seems like things are working out for the best.
He steps into the coffee shop and looks around before spotting Remy wiping down a table.
"Hey Remy! It's good to see you," he says cheerfully.
Remy continues cleaning instead of giving Patton a hug like usual.
"Is it though?" he asks sardonically.
Patton frowns.
"Remy? What's wrong?"
He brushes past Patton roughly, ignoring the question entirely and leaving Patton to watch him walk away.
Patton shakes his head before heading to the counter to order his drink then finds a table so he can keep an eye out for his friend. By the time his drink is gone, Patton hasn't seen Remy once and it leaves a hollow sensation in his chest. He returns the mug to the counter before sighing and leaving the cafe.
Unknown to him, Remy watches from nearby before wiping away a tear that's fallen.
---
Roman holds Patton close while Virgil and Logan sit nearby and wearing matching concerned looks on their faces ever since Patton returned to the apartment far later than he said he would be. Yet, they haven't been able to get anything out of him about the source of his unusual mood.
“How about we watch a movie?” suggests Virgil.
Logan nods approvingly, not noticing the blush on Virgil’s face.
“Brilliant idea, Virgil. While I don’t usually encourage the consumption of pizza, it is the only suitable food besides popcorn for a movie night and since we’re out of popcorn, I’ll order a pizza for us while everyone else decides on the movie,” comments Logan.
While Logan takes care of ordering the pizza and gathering beverages for everyone, Virgil takes stock of their options. His eyes land on one Disney movie in particular and smirks.
Oh, this is rather fitting.
He turns back to the duo on the couch.
“Either of you have suggestions for movies?” he asks.
Patton shakes his head then presses his face into Roman’s shoulder as his boyfriend strokes his back gently.
“Normally, I have opinions on the matter but this one time, I’ll trust you with finding a movie. I know your tastes are at least better than Remus’,” he says firmly.
Virgil snorts at the mention of Roman’s twin.
“Ain’t that the truth. I don’t think Patton’s ready for that; hell, I’ve known Remus for years and I’m not ready for that,” replies Virgil.
Roman laughs.
His brother has a rather unique taste in movies, that’s for sure.
Virgil grabs the DVD and pops into the player before setting the tv up but not starting it until Logan joins them and the pizza has arrived.
The Princess and the Frog appears on the title screen.
Roman’s jaw drops open while Virgil and Logan laugh; he knows exactly why Virgil picked this movie though its worth it when he hears Patton giggle.
The men settle in to enjoy a delightful Disney movie though none of them make it through the whole thing.
The sound of the tv shutting off wakes Patton and he looks up from where he’s cuddling Roman to see Logan holding the remote while trying his best to not wake up Virgil, asleep on his chest. He meets Logan’s gaze and grins knowingly causing Logan to shake his head really fast in response. Patton’s smile softens which Logan returns, the relief of seeing Patton smiling clear on his face.
As if knowing Patton’s awake, Roman squeezes him tightly for a few moments in his sleep.
“Go. To. Sleep,” mouths Logan.
“Only if you do too,” responds Patton softly.
Logan rolls his eyes but adjusts his position so he and Virgil are comfortable before closing his eyes.
An impromptu sleepover is just what the doctor ordered.
Maybe, tomorrow Patton will find the courage to talk about Remy’s strange behavior.
