So I got a crappy grade back on an assignment. An assignment I thought I did pretty well on- but some profs are hard markers, idk if I missed a verbal instruction somewhere due to my hearing impairment, but I definitely misread a written one and it lost me like 7 marks - for misreading that one. . . It happens, but now I know what to expect from that prof and the only@place I can go from here is up! So more effort in class, knock quizzes out of the park! And kill this next assignment! Plus go to some office hours to make sure I’m understanding content! . . When the nurse becomes the patient. . . Those who have been around for a while know all about my health journey. The ups and down. The way downs. . . With pulmonary hypertension chest pain can be super scary and very dangerous! I very quickly can go into respiratory distress. . . I, however, am very stubborn. The last place I ever want to be is a hospital as a patient, and will do everything to prevent myself from going. . . Yesterday was no different. I took my inhaler when I felt the tightness and pain, took naproxen to help with inflammation and pain. And laid down with cool water to sip on hoping it would pass and I could sleep. But no. . . After two hours of pain that was excruciating and unable to move without feeling light headed, I decided I was ready to make the trip to emerge. . . When I got there my initial BP was 170/105, and tachycardic at 140bpm. . . Cue blood work, oxygen, ECG and cardiac monitoring. . . I am ok! They got the pain and BP under control after a few hours. Tests all came back within normal limits and I was able to go home. . . It always gives me such a new view when I am on the other side of the curtain- especially as a deaf person. Masks make communication for me very difficult even with my hearing aids in. And why I napped off medication I would turn them off. Then tech and nurses and docs would come in to check on me and I wouldn’t respond to them (because I can’t hear them). Did I mention that my wedding is in 15 days??? . . Everyone is doing their 10 year growth posts and I definitely did mine, but I wanted to use this moment to talk about tough things and what I have learned. . . I never hide it but struggled a lot as a teenager and child. I had a lot of really tough spot to be in that I wouldn’t wish on anyone else. But I will share some of the things I’ve learned. . . 1.your looks won’t drastically change old and a wrinkle or two, but I still have the same nose and round cheeks 2. No one- not a single person- is entitled to you, your presence or time- regardless of who they are to you or what they’ve done “for you”, this was something toxic I had a hard time with, but am better with now. If they make your life worse cut them out. 3. Happiness is a journey and a goal. I look back over the last five years and think some moments had been happy - but now realizing they were miserable - I had convinced even myself that they were happy. My goal is always to be in the pursuit of happiness to seek it out and find joy in simple things, but also know that definitions of happiness change, I never want to stay in a situation because it once made me happy when I can continue to keep trying to do things that make me happy rather than stewing in the past. . .
