Ruby: Hey Emerald? Remember when you were a thief?

Emerald: ... Look, I'm sorry I took your wallet, Here it is *She hands Ruby her wallet* I didn't mean to take it, old habits just die hard. I really appreciate you letting me join you. I was just gonna wait and leave on your nightstand or something, but you caught me. Sorry.

Ruby: ... I was going to say "because you've stolen my heart." But I was wondering where this had - I am missing all my lien.

Emerald: I lost a bet to Mercury.

Ruby: ...

Emerald: I'll pay you back?

Ruby: Pay for out date with money you earned and I'll call it even.

Emerald: Deal.

Ruby feels incredibly lonely and isolated at Beacon, especially as her teammates and Yang found other people in two years. She *craves* affection, so when Emerald kindly asks her out Ruby jumps at it.

(Okay, yeah, I can do this)

It had started in Ruby’s third year of Beacon. First, Blake and Yang had gotten together, breaking her heart. A crush that she had tried to act on, only to push her crush for Blake away. Though despite her broken heart, she put on a smile to congratulate the two for getting together, still happy for them. 

Then there was Weiss. Another crush Ruby had to let go once she saw her get together with Sun and Pyrrha. And once again, she put up a smile and tried to be happy for her. And yet, she found herself starting to feel alone. 

Graduation was just around the corner and Ruby couldnt help but start to worry about her dating life. It wasnt that she was worried that she’d be alone, no, she was sure that she could go without finding a partner and still be happy. What bothered her was that she felt like she was losing a connection to her team. Weiss was often out with Sun and Pyrrha, and in correlation Jaune and Neptune, and Blake and Yang always seemed to be out dancing or taking quiet dates around Vale. It had been months since she’d been able to do anything with her team that didnt devolve to a spur of the moment date and she was tired of it. Tired of being a third wheel, tired of not having that connection to her teammates, afraid of losing them and being left behind. 

“Everything alright?” Emerald asked as she sat down next to Ruby. “You havent touched your dessert. And normally I have to get you to slow down.” 

“Yeah, I’m fine,” Ruby said as she took a bite of her cheesecake, not aware she’d gotten herself lost in thought. “Guess I’m nervous about graduating.” 

Emerald rolled her eyes. “Last week you were excited about it and Cinder and I helped you figure out a plan for once you were out of Beacon. So spill it, what’s making you nervous now?” 

“Its… its my team.” 

“Your team?” 

“Yeah.” 

“Alright, explain.” 

Ruby sat down her fork and paused for a moment as she tried to think of the right words to say. A small blush crossed her cheeks as she glanced up at Emerald for a brief moment before talking again. “I… I dont know, I guess I’m worried about not having a team once we graduate. Weiss will go back to Atlas for a bit, Blake and Yang are planning to travel around, and I… I’m planning to stay here. Which is all fine, but, I… I guess its all starting to hit me that I’ll be-” 

“Alone?” Emerald interrupted. “You know you wont be alone, right?” 

“I know but I…” Ruby’s words started to trail off again as she stared at her cheesecake. Weiss, Blake, and Yang would never leave her alone and she knew that. She still had her friends, Emerald and Cinder and Jaune and his team, that were going to stick around. Even Mercury was someone she had nearby, even if she couldnt stand him. “It feels different with them. They’re my team, my first friends here and the ones I trust. And right now I feel… behind. They’re going to be moving on and I’m going to be stuck.” 

“Stuck?” 

“Stuck.” 

“If you’re feeling stuck, then maybe we can change that.” 

Ruby raised a brow. “Change how?” 

“Want to go on a date with me?” Emerald asked plainly. 

“Yes!” Ruby blurted out, only to pause and clear her throat. “Y-yes, I’d… I’d love to.” 

Emerald giggled a bit and stole a bite of cheesecake. “A bit eager, dont you think?” 

“I-its not like that,” Ruby said as she looked away to hide her blush. “You’re pretty and most people tend to be scared to try to ask me or worried that I’m too young even though I’m an adult.” 

“Then meet me here next friday. Oh, and dont forget to wear a dress. If we’re going to do this, we’re going to do this right.” 

Ruby nodded and watched Emerald walk off, her blush slowly fading. A date with Emerald would certainly be a change of pace from their current Friday nights out to get a bite to eat and catch up with each other. Then, the words Emerald said finally hit her. “A-a dress?!” She quickly scarfed down the rest of her cheesecake and started to pack her things. “Hopefully the one I wore to the dance last year still fits. I really dont need to ask Weiss to come with me to find one.”

After months of being together Ruby musters up the nerve to take control when she kisses Emerald.(Kiss into Steamy French kiss.~)

Inside team RWBY’s dorm room, the gemstone couple were on Ruby’s bed, their lips softly melding against one another. Both of their eyes were closed and they just were enjoying the feeling of the kiss. Emerald had her arms wrapped around Ruby’s waist as they were both laying on their sides. 

Their kiss even made just enough noise to be nice and pleasant. Not too loud or distracting, but definitely there. It had quickly become one of Ruby’s favorite sounds too. It was Ruby’s favorite thing from these make out sessions with Emerald, well… aside feeling her luscious lips on hers… and her nimble hands on her body.

It had been about three minutes since they started when Ruby felt Emerald’s leg move to rest on top of her own legs. Their soft thighs rubbed against each other. Ruby’s rhythm in the kiss faltered when Emerald’s arms around her pulled her closer, and the mint haired woman capitalized on it by taking complete control of the kiss.

Emerald sucked on Ruby’s lower lip a little before diving deeper into the kiss. she smirked into the kiss as she could practically feel the heat of Ruby blushing against her own face. ‘She’s still so cute~.’ Emerald always liked how Ruby became putty in her hands. She started to roll over to get on top Ruby to properly take control of the situation.

But her eyes shot open when she was thoroughly caught off guard though when Ruby suddenly rolled over onto her first!

Emerald wasn’t the only one surprised. Ruby didn’t really know what had gotten into her. She had made the split second decision to be more confident in their kiss and now she was laying on top of her girlfriend! She pressed her mouth deeper into the lip lock as she rolled, even feeling Emerald’s tongue run along her lips and against her own tongue when they shifted places.

And Ruby was loving it! She shivered at the feeling of passion it caused in her and she wanted to kiss Emerald like that more. Ruby’s eager tongue slipped past Emerald’s own lips, surprising the girl beneath her even further. Ruby was never this forward, so Emerald didn’t know how to react. She definitely wasn’t resisting though. The kiss felt too amazing to interrupt! So all she did instead was close her eyes again and let Ruby keep working her magic.

Ruby laid on top of Emerald for minutes as their kiss increased in passion, desire, and sound. Their kiss was now much more audible, being the only thing the two of them could hear. The sounds of Ruby sucking on Emerald’s lips and Emerald’s moans were a nice duet for background noise to them. Their hands had also started roaming, seemingly on their own. Ruby’s hands rested up on Emerald’s clothed breasts and Emerald’s hands had begun to cup Ruby’s cute butt.

Ruby finally let up on Emerald and pulled away. As she did, her lips were visibly sucking on Emerald’s tongue one last time. Ruby’s lips pulled off with an unrestrained groan from her and a whimpered moan from Emerald. The two took a minute of taking deep breaths together. They ever so slowly came down from their extremely heated make out. 

Emerald opened her eyes first, staring up at her girlfriend in a bit of wonder after that unexpected showing of dominance. Granted she did usually like to be the one in control during anything intimate like this with Ruby, but no one would ever believe her if she told them she didn’t enjoy what just happened.

Ruby opened her eyes next, finally being able to think more clearly. The first thing her silver eyes saw were her girlfriend’s dark red ones looking straight back at her. They finished their panting and fell silent. Then the gemstones started to realize exactly what just happened, as well as where their hands still were.

Then Emerald witnessed Ruby turn back into her old self.

Ruby’s face exploded in pink and she immediately pulled her hands off Emerald’s chest. She sat up, her butt sitting on Emerald’s thighs, and covered her blushing face with her hands. “Oh my gosh I am so sorry Emerald! I don’t know what that was! I’m sorry!” Her speedy apology was slightly muffled by her hands, but still clear enough for her girlfriend to hear.

Emerald’s own blushing cheeks died down at Ruby’s adorable freak out. She smiled, seeing her usual adorable girlfriend come out. She sat up herself and moved her hands away from her butt cheeks to wrap her arms around Ruby again. She pulled the blushing, babbling girl into a hug and gently laid back down, now with Ruby laying on top of her again. “Nah, don’t worry about it Rubes. That was pretty hot~.” That compliment didn’t help Ruby’s blush. “It was really nice, honest. I guess you’re a bit more comfortable around me now?” 

Ruby pulled her hands away from her face, then gently nodded against Emerald’s collarbone. Then she mumbled quietly, “Mmmhm. I guess so...”

“That’s nice.” Emerald gently kissed the girl in her arms on the head. “Geez, first you hold my hand and now this? Next thing I’ll know you’ll be proposing to me.”

Ruby’s blush came back 100% at that thought. Emerald just hugged her tighter with a smug chuckle. ‘Yeah, looks like I’m still the one in control~.’

Okay, since I’m owning the fact I’m Gemstones/Precious Gems trash, can I make a quick argument for it within canon?

Well, it’s my blog and my poor judgement, so this is happening anyway

I’ve been rereading the RWBY manga anthologies after my friend returned them to me (she stole them for like three months but was so happy about it I couldn’t be mad), and there’s a Chapter that sticks with me: “Partner.”

[Quick summary: at an awards ceremony for the events of Volume 2, Ruby is cornered by Mercury. They dance together and he’s handsy and gross about it, then Weiss swoops in your rescue her.]

Why did Mercury, who has no charm and avoids interacting with the main cast in canon, ask Ruby to dance?

However, a RWBY rewatch gave me an idea:

Ruby was crushing on Emerald during team CMEN’s time at Beacon, and spent a fair amount of time around them as a result. Mercury was heteronormative and/or prideful and assumed Ruby was trying to flirt with him.

Merc never caught on that Ruby is an awkward Bisexual who was paying a lot more attention to the cute girl in a halter top than she needed to.

Mercury just thought Ruby was flirting with him and was shy, but she was really a pining gay trying to get close to a pretty girl.

I figured if I colored one sketch I’d color this one too, so here’s Emerald, realizing that there’s another girl in red that’s possibly more her type. Also, Ruby has a crush and is crushing hard.
