💕 What is your favorite fic that you’ve written? 

It absolutely has to be what will you leave behind?, my Riza as the Spiritfarer fic. I still think about the journeys each character took with Riza, the shape of the entire story, the way it grew organically in a way that so many writers complain that their ideas refuse to be contained to a small oneshot but that almost never happens for me but it did for this one. I have ambitions of recording it as a podfic one day, but I have too many ideas of just how I would do it, and not nearly enough spoons or time to do it justice, so it will remain a goal of mine for the foreseeable future.  There was a meme going around (I can't remember if it was here or twitter) asking for the fic that best represents your work, and I can't say that this one fits the bill because it's long when the majority of mine are under 5k, but it's probably the fic that most reveals me: my hopes, my insecurities, my wishes for the kind of person I could be. 

🌻 How often do you read your own fics? 

I am probably the #1 reader of my fics 😆 I tend to write the things that I want to read, so there are some that I've read just for fun many times over! The most recent one of mine was my fic where Zuko tells Izumi how he got his scar - it was on my mind because I started a rewatch with friends who have 4 kids, and the mom was saying how much harder it is to watch Zuko's abuse now that she has kids. The conversation put me in mind of this fic I wrote years ago and am still proud of. I thought about sharing it with her, but decided against it (feels too vain).

Hawk: What’s your favorite phrase/quote from your own writing?

Oh man, that’s a tough one. Let’s see here… one semi-recent one that I’m particularly proud of (which is about the best I can do with questions like this one, sorry!) is this one, which is the last line of Return Again:

And there he stayed, as the purple-bronze dusk slunk away into night: a son once more in his mother’s arms, a lover once more in his beloved’s embrace.

Rabbit: What’s your favorite phrase/quote from somebody else’s writing?

That’s a tough one, too—I know so many awesome stories by talented folks! But here’s one that meant a lot to me because it was written by one of my fandom besties in a story that borrowed an OC of mine. Which I admit maybe makes it kind of self-centered of me to choose, but it did mean a lot to me, and it exemplifies the wonderful job she did with the OC in question.

She resisted the temptation to touch the precious missive to her lips, to see if it carried his scent, so earthy and woodsy, like the heady aroma of the tallest bristlecone.

F. canon fics or AU?

Oh, a little bit of both, really, according to what the story calls for! ;) I am big on OCs, so I guess they add a tinge of AU to everything they’re in, in a way.

G. longfics or shortfics?

Mostly shortfics and the occasional mediumfic these days. My very first fic, which was also the first one I posted publicly, was (or is, given that it’s still unfinished) a huge, sprawling, epic-sized thing divided into multiple multichapter “books,” but I soon found it difficult to both keep up with that and take on other, smaller projects at the same time. And because I ended up really enjoying those shorter projects, it led me to the realization that I’m more a shortfic person than a longfic person. That’s not to say I wouldn’t like to finish that one long, sprawling story someday—I would—but just that I probably won’t take any more projects that size!

1. When did you start reading fic? (how old you were or how long ago)

Believe it or not, it actually wasn’t that long ago! I think I started writing fic (technically) long before I actively consumed it. Which seems counterintuitive, but I think I just also didn’t necessarily know where to go? I started actively reading some fics on AO3 just four or so years ago after entering the Gravity Falls fandom and embarking on a rapid search for more Bill Cipher content than canon had to offer me. And even then, I was cursed with being hella picky.

14. What kind of plotline are you always here for?

Going back to being mad picky with what I read, it’s really more about the writing itself than a particular plotline. But there are a few plotlines that are almost always a “hell yes please” from me if done right, and the top sfw one is defintely a  “Changing hearts and minds” kind of story. It’s not really a trope (as far as I know), but more of a story that follows the same thematic core principles as Change Your Mind does on SU. Basically, a believable, satisfying journey of reaching out to someone who does not share your values, coming to understand each other, and coming out of it as allies, or even more. I hope that makes sense...

15. What can an author do to make you love them?

There are so many little things I look for in someone’s writing, and an equally long list of little things that turn me off of someone’s writing even before taking the actual content into consideration. I won’t get into the latter unless I get at #16 but one thing that isn’t directly related to not doing the things I dislike is writing a character faithfully to their original characterization even when the verse (our outright AU) is wildly different from canon. That takes talent, and it really makes me respect the writer and want to read more!
