Important news: I will disappear for some time. Gotta work on HUGE project (huge for me, but not so for some). That's why I'll go on a Lil hiatus. More news on my tg channel, here you can have my first (a Lil modified) try on animatics.
I am just experimenting with my stuff and formats (✿◠‿◠).
Stay safe! 💚
About the process of creating the Tartaglia artwork.
I couldn't miss the birthday of our main "Russian boy" from Genshin! Yes, I don't actually have Tartaglia in the game, but is that any reason not to draw him? :3
I wanted something authentically Russian, but without the fur coats, valenki, and other clichés. As always, I went digging for references on Pinterest. And Pinterest didn't disappoint; it served up a great photo of a guy in a tracksuit. It clicked! That's it. That's the one.
"I'll draw Tartaglia as a sort of local gopnik," I thought. That way I'd kill two birds with one stone: capture the Russian vibe and avoid drawing his complicated canonical costume. Heh, aren't I clever. :3
So then it was down to business. I started sketching while simultaneously looking for more references on Pinterest. This time, I made three sketches right away:
First sketch: The one based on that very first photo. I took the pose and placed Tartaglia in a stairwell. The image would have been simple, but it would have allowed me to draw, well, "creative local graffiti" on the walls. I didn't quite like the pose, though. I couldn't capture the casual, careless ease; the guy in the reference looked somewhat awkward.
Second sketch: I roughed out a second sketch, with the character standing on a bridge, a train depot with locomotives below. This Tartaglia turned out too smiley, and I didn't really feel like killing myself drawing a detailed background. The pose wasn't great either. He's standing with both elbows leaning on the railing (oh, those foreshortened hands)... anyway, I continued my search...
Third sketch: I took the very first Tartaglia from the stairwell and placed him against a railing. I copied the lighting from the reference, and I liked it so much! It's totally my favorite—the setting sun, the rays barely touching his hair, and his face in complex, coolish tones! It was precisely because of the lighting that I settled on the third option.
In the end, I'm happy with how the piece turned out. I drew it in four hours and didn't stumble anywhere during the process this time.
Of course, the character is almost unrecognizable out of his usual costume. That's a downside. Also, in future works, I'd like to preserve the lightness and airiness of the sketch. I'm not sure yet how to achieve that... Maybe I should stop and finish the work earlier? To limit myself, to prevent the possibility of over-polishing the art too much.
Anyway, I'll keep trying and improving my skills!
The next character in line is a girl, and this time, not from Genshin :3
favorite word?
So, after some thinking, i actually have quite a few favourite words.
The first three words are - opportunity, curiosity and voyage. Those are the names of space crafts and they sound really fucking cool. Another one of my favourites is a word SCRUMPTIOUS.(I learnt it from one of my mutuals. I can't find this mutual at the moment. I am afraid i might have blocked him on accident D:)
Now, the most favourite word in my native language is this joke-compound word that was created somewhere around year 2010:
Quasi-anti-circle-dance-leader-expert-phile-phobe-eater-maniacs
Here is a translated explanation of this done by me for you:
Those who dance in circles - are circle-dance-leaders. Those who study the work of circle-dance-leaders - are circle-dance-leader-experts. Those who read the work of circle-dance-leader-experts - are circle-dance-leader-expert-philes. Those who hate circle-dance-leader-expert-philes - are circle-dance-leader-expert-phile-phobes. Those who eat circle-dance-leader-expert-phile-phobes - are circle-dance-leader-expert-phile-phobe-eaters. Those who fight circle-dance-leader-expert-phile-phobe-eaters - are anti-circle-dance-leader-expert-phile-phobe-eaters. Those who pose as anti-circle-dance-leader-expert-phile-phobe-eaters - are quasi-anti-circle-dance-leader-expert-phile-phobe-eaters. Those who love quasi-anti-circle-dance-leader-expert-phile-phobe-eaters - are quasi-anti-circle-dance-leader-expert-phile-phobe-eater-maniacs.
Quasi-anti-circle-dance-leader-expert-phile-phobe-eater-maniacs - are those, who love those, who pretend to be those, who fight against those, who eat those, who hate those, who love to read those, who study the works of those, who dance in circles.
