In the last month came to me a sudden desire to frequent theatres - something I've never done before, apart from a few plays I attended during my school years. It started with seeing a few posters around the city, finding out about a few plays based on famous literary works, talking a friend into coming with me. It isn't just a great way to embrace humanistic culture from another perspective, and an original way to spend your evening in a fancy place - I figured it was also a way to help to keep this art form alive in my city, and more specifically the theatres open, especially during the pandemic. So, today was the first day of this personal resolution of mine: I went to this lovely theatre, slightly out of the city, whose fancy ceiling I love. The performance was "Signori... Chechov" ("Gentlemen... Chekhov"), composed of two of his one-act plays - On the Harmful Effects of Tobacco and A Tragedian in Spite of Himself - and preceeded by a brief biographical introduction. I chose this as the first performance I'd go to because it was both fairly short, and related to an author I'll have to study next year for my Russian Literature course. The actor was really talented and got a great response from the public, and it was overall a beautiful experience!
