Hey everyone! I drew a rustrazor ceanataur badly.
Will post more soon.
Rustrazor Shana is the last thing you'll see before you die. any last words?
I understand Subspecies, Rare Species and Variantsm but I’m confused about Deviants. How do they come about?
The classification of “Deviant” is a rather strange term I will admit, as it given to a specific monster individual that is much more powerful than most members of its species rather than a typical taxonomy grouping. In fact, there are actually two different ways for a monster to become a Deviant.
The first is simply from the innate qualities of the monster being affected by events in its life and the individual adapting to them. Soulseer is a Mizutsune lost its sense of sight and developed a method of perceiving the environment with its bubbles to compensate, Elderfrost is an ancient Gammoth that had learned how to apply ice to itself rather than just snow, and RustRazor is a Ceanataur that procured a Glavenus skull and copied the sharpening action from Glaveni it had seen previously.
The other is due to unique mutations, so rare that the monsters that have them are practically one of a kind. Nightcloak’s feathers have reflective properties that allow the Malfestio to become invisible for a short time when ruffled, Dreadqueen and Dreadking respectively have much larger Poison Sacs and Flame Sacs than common Rathian and Rathalos, and Thunderlord is capable of storing a higher voltage of electricity than regular Zinogre that they use to “charge” their Fulgerbugs.
These two categories of Deviant can occur at the same time as well, with Bloodbath being the prominent example. Regular Diablos secrete a fluid akin to sweating in mammals that helps them cool down in the desert heat, and research performed on Bloodbath’s corpse showed that it produced a larger amount of this fluid than normal. The intense trauma-induced rage of the individual during battle flash vaporised this fluid and created the “steam explosions” the creature was known for.
