My Bumbleby Rant (Don't Worry I Ship It)

Bumbleby antis who insist that Bumbleby is forced or poorly written or wasn't planned from the beginning piss me off so bad. I clicked on this video and I haven't even begun watching it but the comments alone have me heated because nigga what (I am black do not worry).

Bumbleby is written exactly like Renora (not exactly, exactly) and yet I hear no complaints. While yes Renora are impiled to have huge crushed on one another in volume 1 they don't do anything with it until volume 4! Even then it's mostly in the background of their interactions in an arc that's about Ren. Renora really doesn't kick off until volume 7!

Same with Bumbleby, while their interactions in volume 1 aren't overtly romantic by the time we get to volume 2 and 3 something fruity was cooking in the writing room. In volume 2 Yang and Blake have their heart to heart in Burning the Candles which you can say isn't romantic but the framing of the scene says otherwise.

It's in golden hour, Yang is so very gentle with Blake even when angry with her. Yang winks at Blake at the end of the convo and says "I'll save you a dance" and the look on Blake's face as Yang walks away. The dance thing is also something I want to meation because that whole dance was just a plot device to futher romantic subplots and villain shenanigans. But the fact that Blake shares a dance with both Yang and Sun, her two most prominent love intrests, could mean nothing.

Also in Volume 2 when WBY have their talk in Montain Glenn and Blake is being very hard on herself it is Yang that attempts to reassure her.

However it is volume 3 where yall bitches should have known what time it was. After Yang and Mercury's fight, where everyone believes that Yang attacked him for no reason and their sitting in RWBY's dorm room. Blake is hesitant to fully believe Yang because of her experience with Adam but after being Yang looks Blake in the eye reassures her that she didn't hurt Mercury out of maliciousness Blake lays the whole thing to bed.

(sidenote that scene is a wonderful display of communication and character growth on Blake's part and shows just how far she had come because volume 1 and 2 Blake would have never have done that)

Yang and Adam, Blake's ex-BYFRIEND, are being directly paralleled in this scene. Then the scene where Adam cuts off Yang's arm. Adam just before Adam stabs Blake he tells her "He will make it his mission to destory everything she loves" which is line that screams LOVE INTREST ENTER STAGE RIGHT.

Yang throws herself at Adam in an effort to protect Blake (there are tears in her eyes btw) and we all know what happens next. The next time we see Blake and Yang, Blake is holding Yang's hand while sobbing as she apologizes for what happened. These moments scream romance to me because of similar scenes between love intrests in other media but also because it sets up a conflict between Adam and Yang.

The writers in volume 3 set up a conflict between Yang and Blake's ex-boyfriend and I'm supposed to buy that they didn't plan for Bumbleby to be canon? Really? Also Yang and Adam's semblances are simailr something we knew about these two characters long before that was revealed in the show in volume 6. Meaning the parallels between these two were something the writers had planned out for years at that point.

disclaimer for next part: I love Black Sun do NOT take this as ship war nonsense. I'm just talking about people who leverage against Blacksun against Bumbleby. This is NOT an attack on the ship.

This meme is literaly me. I am a firm believer in the Blake has two hands agenda. Why have just one bubbly blonde when you can have two?

anyway back to the show.

If CRWBY had planned for Blacksun to be canon and they only switched gears to Bumbleby in volume 6 then why doesn't Sun have any conflict with Adam? As far as I know he doesn't even interact with that man but Yang does. What reason would they have for paralleling Yang and Adam if Bumbleby wasn't planned by the writers? Like get so serious.

Also within volume 4 and 5 you have both Blake and Yang pinning after one another. When Blake is having her talk with Sun after he is injuried by Ilia her voice literaly breaks when she says Yang's name. The volume 4 opening has Blake looking off to the side at Yang. It's so clear that Yang is the main reason between Blake's spiral.

Yang is so upset with Blake leaving in volume 3 and is still upset about it in volume 5. The whole reason Weiss and Yang's talk in volume 5 chapter 8 even happens is because Yang is upset with Blake for leaving. Also Blake and Yang can also be parallel with Taiyang and Raven, Yang's parents and canonical romantic pairing.

Like yes, Blacksun had some really great moments in volume 4 and 5 and Like Morning Follows Night is an absolute banger however I don't think they were endgame. Over the volumes they're interactions start to feel platonic more than romantic, even in the earlier volumes they're interactions aren't that romantic when compared with other ships. Still love them as a pairing tho and I'll alway find them so much fun.

Well that's it. I don't know how to end this. (I still need to finish that essay about Tauradonna, Blacksun, and Bumbleby. I'll try to work on it later.)

i think the most heart breaking part in the entire episode is when Ruby breaks down  crying and says

“I’m sorry, I don’t want to be me anymore”

because its the first time shes actually voiced how shes feeling the entire season, the entire series. like she said in episode 7 shes always the one to say the right thing, and put on he brave face, and playing the part of the perfect leader.

and throughout this episode while fighting Neo she’s tried to defend herself without really being honest about her feelings, “its not my fault” or “i was just trying to save everyone” again and again shes focusing on how shes impacting others and not talking about how SHE FEELS

so when everything comes tumbling down, when she finally breaks and thinks shes save with the cat to finally actually have a moment to herself, she appologizes for not wanting to even be herself anymore, because the ideal she has been forced to live as is too much for her, and not wanting to be that perfect ruby is somehow a failing she needs to apologize for.

Just saw a post about RWBY and how Salem isn’t going to be the real big bad.

I do not care for RWBY anymore, but I will say that Salem is a unique villain, in that all she wants is her own destruction, and that can only come by the Gods destroying the whole world, so it does seem highly likely that she’s not the final boss. I agree with that--we all agree with that. The gods are the final problem, Salem is just the enemy just below them.

No, the problem I had wasn’t with the argument--it was the evidence they laid out for it. Namely, that Salem must eventually turn to the side of good because the word “salem” means peace.

They’re basing her future character growth off of her name.

A name for the wicked witch, based off of the town infamous for witches.

Y’all. It’s not that deep.

Come at me with every bit of in-canon lore for why she will switch sides--Ruby’s eyes may be able to destroy the Grimm-half of her being, she’s not interested in destruction unless it’s forwarding her own destruction, she’s likely to still have a burning hatred for the gods that the heroes could align with--but the minute you come at me with something as ridiculous as the meaning of her name when her name starts and ends with the Salem Witch Trials, I’m done listening.

I mean, if we want to go with that, why wasn’t James Ozpin’s host instead of Oscar? The name “James” roughly translates to “inheritor” or “the follower”. Leonardo Lionheart literally means “Brave as a Lion Brave as a Lion”, so why was he such a coward to the end? Mercury has the meanings of “the healer”, “the messenger”, “unbound”, “the artist”, but all it means for Mercury Black is “gotta go fast!”

The characters of RWBY have always and only ever been allusions to other literary characters , wildly oscillating from authentic to subversive to disappointing, and the names start and end there. There is no deeper meaning.

Sometimes the curtains are blue because of a specific emotion or meaning—and sometimes they’re blue because blue is a color.

This is my meme commentary on Adam and Char.

Neither one’s a bigot, they’re just curious. Infact, pretttyyyy sure these guys and those like them just say things sometimes times to get other people to think, and piss off others.

...Also, I would like to give a shout out to these guys for being introduced to Rau La Crauset.

Hell, I bet a loooooottttt of girls have interest in both these guys and Gundam right? Maybe make girl versions of them?

...Hell, does rule 63 for Adam even exist?

The problem I have with Vol 6

I really love everything that has happened this volume, I just don’t like how it was happened, and more than a few times I didn’t like what was said. I wouldn’t change any of the major plot points, but I would change the interactions and dialogue a bit so that those plot points felt more valid, more realistic.

After RWBY Vol 3, the world of Remnant was set up as a realistic fantasy world, one with actual rules and laws and consequences. People die, even if they’re starry-eyed protagonists or lovable villains. Situations can get out of control, and end up with no one winning. Breaking the rules, or going against authority, can sometimes cause more harm than good.

And now, here we are, three volumes later, and that script seems to be flipped. The world has gone from realistic to protagonist-centered. No matter how bad of actions the protagonists make, they’re always in the right, and are immune to the consequences of said actions.

Verbally abuse a broken man who’s only trying to help the world? Well, he was a liar and a hypocrite anyways, we didn’t even need him to begin with.

Literally enact an act of terrorism against a militaristic kingdom? Well, it’ll be fine, we’ll just destroy their main line of defense against the forces of darkness.

And that destroying the last line of defense? They treat that episode and the one before like a joke, all light and funny. But this is serious stuff--again, they’re committing treason and terrorism, and they’re laughing while jumping off of missiles and cracking funny oneliners. This isn’t the RWBY I’m used to.

And it’s not just the actions of the protagonists. It’s how they resolve conflict. I was so glad that Oscar came back--but why did he come back? How did he change his mind and where did he get those clothes?

And in the newest episode, I’m glad Yang and Blake are taking on Adam, but just a few days ago they were having anxiety and ptsd flashbacks of him, flinching and shaking uncontrollably. And now we’re just supposed to believe that they’re fine fighting the source of their grief?

Like I said, I’m loving everything that has happened this season...I’m just not a fan of how it was executed.

Currently think about Ruby being in a really dark place and losing herself to her grief and self hatred, and the one person always by her side being Little, even in ascension

thinking about the line from episode 1

“But perhaps victory is in the simpler things that you’ve long forgotten. Things that require a smaller, more honest soul”

Thinking about how that line once applied to Ruby as her introduction to the story, but now she is the one needing to be saved by a smaller more honest soul

thinking about how the argument people use to excuse Ironwoods actions that “well team Rwby lied to ironwood and went behind his back and told Robyn about the communications tower”

and while yes these things happened i think they are coming at the issue from the wrong perspective. for team RWBY and co, it was never about following orders, or listening to Ozpin or even Qrow unquestioningly. it was always about working together towards an end goal. which means that teamates would disagree with each other about the best way to approach an objective. 

in v4 when Qrow tells them the truth, they make objections to his actions and disagree with the way things were done. in v5 when Weiss and Yang are told the whole truth, Yang says she will join them, not to follow Ozpin but to be with her sister. in v6 when they learn that Ozpin kept secrets from them and left them out of big decisions such as keeping Lionhearts treachery a secret they call him out. when Ozpin tells them not to ask Jinn a question they dont listen to him. when Qrow objects to jaunes plan Ruby outright tells him she doesnt care when he thinks because they are going to do the right thing no matter how risky it is. 

Team rwby have NEVER obeyed authority for the authorities sake, they have always pushed against it if they felt it was wrong. they work with authority never for it

and we see this again in v7, there are many instances where RWBY and co tell ironwood that Robyn seems like someone they should have as an ally, that shes an asset to their cause. Oscar, Yang, Nora, Jaune, Ruby, have all on separate occasions directly told Ironwood that he should at least talk to Robyn, and not ONCE does he say "you have a good point, ill do it” or “thats a good idea” it was always a definite NO. 

so when ironwood makes an order to arrest Robyn, team RWBY push against it. because they TRIED to work together with Ironwood they tried to reason with him. but he never even tried. team rwby treated ironwood as a teamate to a better goal they should work on together.

and see thats the WHOLE POINT of huntsmen, they are warriors that answer to no authority. they are independent contractors who fight for what they think is right. thats how huntsman work in every kingdom except Atlas that is.

This differs from how Ironwood sees RWBY and co. they were never teammates or allies. they were men under him. they answered to him, they are to act under his will. 

so when yang and blake tell Robyn, Ironwood sees it as a direct attack against his standing, his control, his authority “loyalty always matters”. but that was never the issue Rwby had. because they are loyal to no one and answer to no one. “were loyal to the people counting on us to save them” 

so the idea that RWBY betrayed Ironwood is flawed out of the gate. RWBY were acting as huntsmen, and Ironwood expected soldiers.
